The Interpreter
Wow. http://www.people.com/article/man-commits-suicide-universal-studios So, do they have Metal Detectors at this park? Metal detectors not in use: http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2015/04/03/firefighters-respond-to-medical-call-at-universal-studios/ See also Kings Island. At least in recent years most of the time. Note that Kings Dominion not only uses metal detectors but also that their sensitivity is typically set very high...
RollerNut
Carowinds done away with metal detectors this year. Some will argue that metal detectors are just a deterrent or a false sense of security but I offer this as my arguement: Do you lock your doors at night? Do you lock your car at ______ amusement park? False sense of security or not, I am more comfortable using my locks. Furthermore, atleast in redneck country, most everyone carries a pocketknife not for protection but because it is a useful tool that they use on a daily basis. You would be surprise how common kitchen knifes and pocket knifes were taken at Carowinds or visitors were asked to put them in their cars. On Season Pass Preview night, Carowinds didnt even do bag checks but the very next morning they were doing bag check again.
The Interpreter
But, they were not checking for concealed knives, weapons or anything else not visible on guests entering the park.
