Just saw this on the news. Sometimes people are so fascinated with waterspouts that they forget that these things can easily become tornadoes if they come ashore.

A beach is not the proper place for a bounce house anyway - it should only be used when anchored to the ground (which they usually are when seen at fairs, etc.). Hopefully the kids will make a full recovery.

A bounce house that is anchored to the ground can, in fact, be uprooted if you try hard enough. I had one in my backyard for my high school graduation party. Turns out they aren't really designed to accommodate 10-15 teenagers at a time. Nobody was hurt, so we had a good laugh about it.

I agree that they're still not completely safe even when anchored to the ground, but it certainly helps. I don't know if this one was anchored or not, but sand isn't going to be strong enough to hold one of those down in most cases.
