I stopped going to amusement parks after I gained weight and couldn't fit on the rides anymore. Well fast forward to 2015...I had gastric bypass about 2 months ago and I've lost 70 pounds, which puts me back around the same weight I was in 2001. Here's my question...have the restraints or belts changed on The Beast, racer, Vortex, or Flight of Fear since 2001? I'm thinking as long as the restraints/cars/belts are the same size, I should at least be able to ride those 4 rides. The Interpreter Posted August 8, 2015 Share Posted August 8, 2015 Welcome to KIC and congratulations! 2001, I do believe, was the year that Flight of Fear lost its over-the-shoulder restraints. Space under restraints can vary from train to train and seat to seat. The trains are completely rebuilt over time. And you are getting smaller, too. And body shape and proportions have a great deal to do with ride fit. You are doubtless built differently than you were in 2001, as most of us are. The very best test is to try and see! Butterfly16 Posted August 8, 2015 Author Share Posted August 8, 2015 Thank you! I just didn't want to waste money for a ticket if I can't ride anything. I know by next summer I will no issue whatsoever...but I am itching to ride The Beast since its been so long. I did ride the Raven and the Voyage at holiday world a few years ago. It was a tight fit but it worked. But those are not as good as The Beast I don't have incredibly large thighs so I'm holding out hope I can ride Diamondback. But I've seen men larger than me ride Diamondback with no issues. Drop Tower may not work - that really seems to be a hit or miss ride depending on body shape and build. I have to adjust things in order to ride but I've seen larger people ride. As mentioned above, it really is about body proportion. Diamondback, Banshee, and Delerium have test seats. I am not proportionate right now...my waist is large but my legs are on the smaller side. So I look like I'm wearing MC hammer pants lol. So I'm hoping that will be an advantage for Diamondback. I have no desire to ride drop zone. I ride it once back in 2001 and swore I'd never do it again. I can't take the anticipation...you get to the top and never know when you're going to drop. See Tower Gardens. Yeah, that's why I asked if the cars or restraints changed. I know it's now owned by Cedar Fair...and they have smaller restraints at Cedar Point. I will miss parking in Scooby doo overflow lol. I'm anxious to see how much the park has changed...last time I went, Son of Beast was pretty new and king cobra was still around. TripleB Posted August 16, 2015 Share Posted August 16, 2015 6'3, 390, took my kids to KI about 2 weeks ago. I rode Woodstock Express and Adventure Express. I was cramped but fit. Kids (ages 6 and 8) got freaked out by WE so didn't try any big coasters. When I went before that (2001 or 2ish) I could ride everything except Drop Tower. I have to basically jam my knees into the car to fit on Vortex and Flight of Fear. I can't imagine how hard it would be with 150 extra pounds. Then again, I would say Adventure Express is the most forgiving coaster. And Woodstock Express the least, outside of Flight of Fear.
