December 22, 20178 yr Just curious, does anyone know why random DB cars are sitting underneath the brake run? Shouldn't they be in the off season maintenance shed?
December 22, 20178 yr I think they sit there until they are ready to tear them down an rebuild. Most of the cars are outside during the winter near maintenance or in the picnic grove anyway. Here is my album of the GOCC Holiday party in 2011. Start at Picture 57 to see the train cars in Picnic Grove. Earlier in the album are the train under DB as you have seen them during Winterfest. http://s683.photobucket.com/user/perdueb24/slideshow/KI GOCC Holiday Party 2011
December 23, 20178 yr The space for maintenance isn't necessarily the biggest...so they take the trains to the shop when they have the space for them and/or when it's time to work on them. As Brad said, most of the trains and/or vehicles are placed outside in various spaces of the park....some get more coverage than the others and some don't get nearly as much.
December 26, 20178 yr Does anyone know what type of maintenance for The Beast is scheduled for this off-season?
December 29, 20178 yr I am sure they will replace sections of rough wood. That seems to be the case for every wooden coaster every off season. haven't heard about anything Major.
December 29, 20178 yr Typically, they will occasionally retrack sections of wooden coasters in the off season. When they do this, they will remove the 8 layers of wood and rebuild it. The amount that they rebuild just depends on the shape and how rough that section is. They get rough because the nails that hold them together start to loosen as the holes they are in widen from the vibration/loads of the trains. They will also occasionally replace sections of structure as needed. I know for this year, they replaced some of the catwalk on lift two. Kings Island typically doesn`t say how much retracking they are doing on their wooden coasters, or where the work is being done at. Holiday World did announce how much track work (and where) they are doing on Voyage this off season (with the help of Gravity Group).
