I work for my school newspaper, and I was thinking about making a section dedicated to rollercoasters and thrillrides (mostly PKI). I was just wondering if you think this is a good idea.

I'd love it if that happened for our newspaper, Pursuit. But it's not going to happen. As for you, go do what you want to do...I'm not sure how many other people in the school are going to like it, but it's more than worth a try!

Two people already want to, so I'm going to help (do everything basically) them. They need help, they probabally don't even know what a tophat is, so, yeah, they will need desperate help.

Nobodys going to care - i mean seirously...think about it. who in high school cares about roller coasters except a few dorks like us?

Post what you write about, it'll be interesting!

I think that a story about rollercoasters would be great. You could actually do a story not just about PKI, but about the many different and record breaking coasters in the state of Ohio. Contact any of the customer service offices of the parks and explain what you are writing about and I'm sure the press kit they give you will be huge- information and pics.

That would actually be awsome. Just because the rest of the world is not coaster freaks like us. They still love to go to amusement parks, ride the rides... watch the shows, etc. I say give it a try and run with it. See where it takes you. Heck, I want to have one of the first copies if you do get it launched.

Chef--glad you added the "perhaps", as I too have spent my career writing. Of course, my subjects aren't nearly as fun as parks and coasters. But, someone has to write those boring technical/operational manuals, right? <G> In the 90s that was certainly the best ROI for a degree in journalism :-)

Monkeyman--I certainly agree with Chef's advice to go for it! You may find that there a lot more "coaster geeks" in your school than you ever thought.

I will be sure to post our final result, which shouldn't be done until the end of the month. I have the weight of two girls who probably don't know the difference between and Inverted coaster and a Wooden coaster, so yes, I will be doing almost all the work.

Please do this!!! Not just for the coaster geeks, but for the information starved in this world. This would be a hands on in physics. Much less, what we need in this world right now is more people like you, look carefully at how our "great" government is trying to take our coaster joy from us. Please include proof that stupidity causes accidents on coasters not the design of the coasters. If you do this show how safe the coasters at PKI are because of their design and how physics makes this happen. This is not just a coaster geek subject, the forces on coasters can be applied on other things in the world.

OK, I have already started on the PKI article. I've gotten very far, half of a page, after only writing an opening paragraph, a paragraph on BB, and a paragraph on Delirium. As soon as I get the final copy, I will post it in a different topic.

OK, I'm done with the rough draft now, and I've e-mailed it to Italianchef. I will post it soon!

Not only would a well-written article about rides and coasters be cool, but it would also be educational as well, as stated above. I remember in last year's Geometry book there was a picutre of Magnum at CP and question relating to circles or something like that. This stuff pops up everywhere.

I read Monkeyman's article and was greatly impressed by it - especially for his age. It was grammatically flawless - and only needed to be tweeked up in style. By the time he is my age, he'll probably have had written more books and articles than me.

Thank you very much Italianchef. My first grade teacher told me at the end of that year, when she was moving to Flordia, that she believes she will be in a library one day and she will see a book written by: Tyler Siders. Back then, all us little kids would try to get the longest paper, and sometimes we would get six pages.

But that is off topic. I should be able to post my article within the next week or so.
