OK, here is my final copy of my school newspaper's PKI article. I worked hard on this, and I hope you all like this.

Well, here it is....

Paramount’s Kings Island

By: Tyler Siders

When people think about Paramount’s Kings Island, they associate it with its 12 roller coasters, which attract many visitors. Other guests go to Paramount’s Kings Island for its water park. PKI (the acronym for Paramount’s Kings Island) attracts over 3 million people annually for a variety of reasons. PKI offers its guests food, a day away from work, (your parents will like that) and even a little bit of exercise believe it or not. PKI also offers live shows and karaoke. PKI also has many rides and attractions for you to enjoy.

First, I will discuss the next year’s new upcoming attraction, Boomerang Bay (BB). It is a new and improved version of the older water park, Water Works, and will have an Australian theme. Among the new rides, Tasmanian Typhoon and Coolangatta Racer, are the most major. Have you imagined riding in a large raft though dark tunnels, only to flow into a funnel to swing around and around? If you think this sounds fun, you should ride Tasmanian Typhoon.

Coolangatta Racer will take four racing riders into four different, dark passages that spiral around, then dumps out into a couple of connected bunny hills, so you can see all the other racers.

Among the new rides of 2003, Delirium was the most popular. Delirium sends willing riders into the feeling of a tornado, spinning around, and swinging up and down, both at the same time. Huss Rides, the creators of Delirium, used simple motors to power Delirium. One causes Delirium to swing back and forth, as if a giant pendulum. The other motor is lower in the swinging arm, used to spin Delirium at an amazing 8 feet per second. Delirium is so fast and confusing that it will make you feel delirious, and thus the name Delirium fits perfectly.

PKI is most famous for its many roller coasters. One of the more exciting coasters is Son of Beast (SOB), the tallest, fastest, and only looping wooden roller coaster on the planet. SOB, will first take you up the gigantic 215-foot tall hill, then drops you at speeds of over 75 mph. Then, after other hills and twists, SOB heads into the only loop of a wooden coaster, 115 feet high. If you think you can last 7,000 feet of shear terror, then ride SOB.

Another coaster, my personal favorite, is Flight of Fear (FOF). When FOF came to PKI in 1997, it was the only coaster to launch the riders using linear induction motors (LIM), which are like gigantic electromagnets. FOF launches riders at speeds of 54 mph. Originally themed to the television show, The Outer Limits, the ride is themed inside an alien spacecraft. After the copyright for the name contract expired in 2001, The Outer Limits: Flight of Fear, changed to just, Flight of Fear. FOF has the most twisted track in the park. If you were to ride it with the lights on, yes all the lights are off in this ride, you would see another part of the track directly above you almost constantly.

Last, but not least, the world famous Beast, which opened in April of 1979. Almost 25 years later, The Beast is still one of the most popular rides. People from all over the country come to PKI each year, mostly to ride The Beast. When The Beast opened, it was the tallest, fastest, and longest wooden coaster in the world. Since the n, all of these records were broken except one. The Beast is still the longest wooden in the world, with an amazing 7,400 feet of track, and with around 1000 of those feet are in tunnel.

If you seek awesome roller coasters, tame family rides, a relaxing water park, good eateries, and great shows… you ought to visit Paramount’s Kings Island. It is one of the top parks in the Midwest!

Great job! Your article highlights the highlights of PKI and even tells about them. The length of each blurb is the same as all the others. Including stuff about shops or eateries in your next article (assuming you do another one) would be great - it could be almost like part two. Just an idea.

Otherwise, I honestly don't think I could have written something that good. Structure is great, and the ideas are supported and detailed well.

Even thought not everything is exact, I still say you did a good job. As for the accuract, it depends where you get your information. RCDB says SOB's top speed is 78.4. Ultimate Rollercoaster says 78.3. I remember somewhere seeing the number 78.6. The point is that nobody cares if you say just 78 miles an hour.

Your article has got a lot of raw data and facts in it, and for the amount you have, I'm quite impressed with the accuracy.

Extremley valid point. I have also noticed this, and am inpressed that you also noticed. The reason i side with 78.3 is becuase on the training manuals given to associates, it is the speed they list.

SOB's lift his is 218 feet.  Not 215 ft.  Also it goes 78.3 mph to be exact.

78.6 to be exact. If you work on the ride, shouldn't you know the facts?

Did you not read dude's post above???? Depending on where you get your information its different. The cincinnati enquirrer once said it went 79, rcdb says on thing, rcca says something different in our manuals. and PKI has a different speed too. Who knows what it really is. But no matter what, i dont think ive EVER seen 78.6 anywhere.

The article was not good. In the first paragraph you talk about how King's Island offers rides, food, shows, and even exercise. But you only write about the rides. Don’t bring up topics to show why PKI attracts people and then never support them. And the successive use of “PKI also offers†and “PKI also has†shows an immature writing style.

What is the point of this "article"? Is it to persuade people to go to PKI? Is it to describe the mechanics of Delirium? The writing is really all over the place. It really ends up looking like some little kid wrote a paper on "Why I like PKI".

On a positive note…your spelling is decent. Thank god for spell check.

Umm... I was thinking the same thing, but didn't want to say anything.. but since Icarus said it, I'll elaborate...

You really need some kind of focus in this article. When I read it, I wasn't sure if you were trying to talk to me, or someone that had never been to the park before.

Also, why did you write it? To convice people to go to PKI? To tell people who have already decided to go to PKI what they have to offer?

Without asking yourself things like that, it's like throwing a handful of pebbles at a target instead of shooting it. If you ask yourself those questions you could probably make a really cool article out of it.

Keep us posted on any revisions so we can be 3rd party people and help you out.

Thanks,

Ryan

When Guiness measured the speed of SOB, it was 78.6 mph to be exact.

The article is good, better than most people your age. However, I'd say re-work it again and again until you are 100% happy with it. For example, mention the new eateries Mandarin Cuisine and Bubba Gump. No one is perfect and there's nothing wrong with updating one's work. George Lucas made special edition re-makes of all 3 Star Wars movies and I read a rumor that a second revision may be on the way.

Keep up the good work and don't get discouraged!

Sincerely,

Italian Chef

Yea well thats good for guiness. All im saying is that it was designed to go 78.3. Im sure ti tops 85 mph on some days. sh*t...after it rains, if you were to fill every seat with a 300 pound man, in about 90 degree no-humidity weather...on a day where the track was greased and the wheels hadnt been greased in a while...sh*t...i bet the thing would be close to 90. I can almost garantee it.
