jensenracing77
How long does a lift chain last? I would assume they would last a really long time but assuming makes an a$$ out of me now and then. Just curious if anyone has any information on this?
tuxedoman52
I don't think there's an average span. Vortex's chain needed replaced in the middle of the 2011 season, during its 25th season.Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

There are so many variables, I would assume there would be data that is needed to be crunched such as: Time chain lift motor is running/ amount of train cycles (train weight)/ amount of passengers (additional weight). I also assume that the chain slack would be checked periodically and once x-links are removed due to stretching the chain is replaced. I'm sure I oversimplified the process, but you get the idea. jimlaheyscar
Just some FYI: On a tour of Thunderhead at Dollywood they mentioned they installed a new chain this year. He suggested they averaged 6-8 years on that ride. And they check the links to ensure they are within tolerance, etc. as mentioned above. I remember when Vortex was down because apparently the chain itself broke and they were going to put a new one on I was told
