DeliriumDreamer
I truly trust the source where this is coming from Barnyard, but I believe the smoothest seat in the ride is 1-2.
Legend Rider
Everyone has their own preference. SOB can't be beat. Literally. Its the tallest, fastest and only looping wooden roller coaster in the world. And I like wooden coasters better than steel coasters. And I think SOB is very fun. Heres how I rank coasters at PKI: SOB Beast Vortex Face/off Flight of Fear recaR Top Gun Racer Rugrats Runaway Reptar Ill let you know what my day record is next year when I ride SOB for 14 hours straight. are you insane? why not ride something smooth? TheKlockster
Ok, first of all Son of Beast holds more than 3 records, it holds 7! Second of all you have to know how to ride a wood coaster. Most people tense up when it gets rough, if you loosen up at the rough parts, believe it or not it wont be as bad. Finally, the smoothest seat on the ride is 6-2. Thank you. LONG LIVE SOB! I agree. I was on a ride that I thought was pretty smooth, but other people who were on the same train actually were saying it hurt their neck. All you have to do is keep your shoulders on the back rest, and keep your head slightly forward. Plus on the second hill, between the main drop and the helix, you kind of have to shift around. If you stay still youre going to get your ass kicked. You have to lean to the left, and the right a bunch of times really fast. I also think being tense has a lot to do with it. People get nervous that they are on such a big roller coaster, and get tense, and that makes it all the more worse. Like CYoung2003 said - you just have to know how to ride it. The way you ride a wood coaster is completely different from they way you would ride Vortex or Face/Off. Wood coasters are quite enjoyable if you know what you are doing! Legend Rider
Well now thats your opinion I always sit up front and I am in no pain at all. i might need to try it in this seat. ----- and actually klockster, i was not tense on it, its just that it hurt me! i try to rest my head back, no! i try to lean it forward, no! it kills me anytime i ride it, so maybe i need to give it a shot at the front row... if not, i will only ride it once per visit/season... due to my discomfort... ----- however i would ride face/off as many times as possible, pending no huge line, if it is one switchback, hu-uh... i may ride beast many times, pending it not flowing out the station, and FoF also , but not outside the building... tricks are good, anybody got any other tips like that??? like at raven, if you dont want to wait forever, wait till the line dies down to just to the porch, then get in line, but thats as far as i wait... any tips??? -----

BoddaH1994
SOB does beat all records and they forgot about a 1 record and that is its BEATS the living hell out of you! Are you sure that The Beast's record beats the HELL out of SOB? Beast: 7400' SOB: 7032' Doesn't sound like a beating from hell. Sounds like a 368 foot difference. Beast is 7359', but close. AZ Kinda Guy
Second of all you have to know how to ride a wood coaster. Thank you. LONG LIVE SOB! Your logic is flawed Barnyard. You shouldn't have to know how to ride it. You should be able to sit down in any seat, pull down the restraint, and not have to worry about your body. Like you have mentioned, you can't do that on SOB... As for the original topic, Beast has my respect. It still chugs along but it's by no means my favorite coaster out there. However, it's still The Beast and continues to please the masses. And because of that, it kicks butt. Since everyone and their brother is putting up their woody list, here's mine... 1. Raven @ Holiday World 2. Legend @ Holiday World 3. Phoenix @ Knoebels 4. Screechin Eagle @ Americana 5. ThunderHead @ Dollywood
UncleHenry
Yeah, I heard Thunderhead kicks some serious ass. BTW, am I the only person on these forums that has been on Ghostrider at Knotts?

TheKlockster
I haven't been to HW yet, so I can't say for sure. But I don't get how Legend or Raven, both of which are like half as long as Beast and SOB can be better than them. I watched the videos at http://kids.discovery.com/games/rollercoas...stervideos.html and I have to say that from the POV videos, I still think Beast and SOB would own the HW woodies. Alien Seed
Legend and Raven, especially Raven, give you an airtime experience that I haven't even felt on a steel coaster. You are constantly floating out of you seat on these rides, and Legend gives you some nice lateral force too at the same time you are getting the airtime, giving you a very unique experience. Great America Guy
By shockwave, do you mean the one that used to be at SFGA? That looked pretty cool, but I will never be able to ride it as it is torn down. Yeah, that's the one. It was a fun ride most of the time. No one will ever be able to ride it now, as it has been cut up and sold for scrap. Anyway, I really liked Son of Beast. I didn't find it smooth in anyway(except the loop). I still liked it alot, but not as much as The Beast. The ride that gets my vote for roughest in the park for the 4th season in a row is Forwards Racer. This ride is just terribly rough. Alien Seed
"The ride that gets my vote for roughest in the park for the 4th season in a row is Forwards Racer. This ride is just terribly rough." I second that. The last time I rode in the back on Racer, I felt like I was having a heart attack. Is was THAT painful for me. Backwards isn't bad, but forwards, for me, in cars 5 or 6, is unbearable.

We rode backwards first, which was smooth and awesome! Then we rode the forwards side. The experience was similar to riding on a jackhammer, while having your spine and neck pounded on with a hammer. I was sitting next to you the last time you rode Racer (unless as an employee you rode it again after the park closed for the year). It wasn't that bad! It was pretty smooth - on the Klockster Roughness Scale, I would have given it a 6 - which is pretty smooth for The Racer. I felt like I was having a heart attack too, but I figured it was cause I was fat and was walking around the park all day. I had a sharp pain in my side doing the turn around at the end, by the AFXT. Alien Seed
We seem to have a problem with one group of people saying that Raven or Legend is better than Beast, and the other group of people who have never been to HW just yelling out that it is impossible for someone to like a coaster more than The Beast. By the way, Klockster, I made a mistake. I wasn't really the "last" time I rode Racer this season, because I did ride with you on the last day, and it wasn't as bad as usual. However, all of my previous rides in the last two cars on Racer had given me a very painful experience, and I will usually avoid riding there if I can. I have gotten the "heart attack" feeling from riding there more than once.
TheKlockster
I just reviewed the POV video of Raven and Legend. Legend (I think that is the one with the double helix right) looks cool, but kind of short. I the headchoppers look great. I looked at the video for Raven though, and it looks awesome. It looks like it has ejector airtime, and I like how it flies through the woods. I mean, Beast goes through the woods, but there is a really wide area on either side of the track that is clear. Raven reminds me of the speederbike scene from Return of the Jedi. I could have the names mixed up, but on that Discovery Kids thing, they have nine wooden coaster POVs, and of those nine, they have SOB, Beast, Raven and Legend. And one of those, Im pretty sure it was Raven, looks like it could possibly earn its way to my top five. Ill HAVE to go down and take a look next season.
