December 14, 200421 yr While these are only estimations, looks like PKI had a strong summer. From Columbus Dispatch: Ohio’s two major theme parks had very different results. Attendance at Cedar Point bucked the national trend, falling 4 percent to 3.2 million from 3.3 million in 2003. Cedar Point spokesman Bryan Edwards attributed the decline to poor weather and the park’s introduction of the Top Thrill Dragster ride in 2003, which boosted attendance that year. Meanwhile, Paramount’s Kings Island’s attendance increased 7 percent to 3.5 million as it introduced Crocodile Dundee’s Boomerang Bay Water Park Resort. link to complete article: http://www.dispatch.com/business-story.php...-02.html&chck=t
December 14, 200421 yr Ahhh, Cedar Point is whipping out the ever popular Six Flags weather excuse, although it may be true to some extent. It was a rather crappy summer. But then again, PKI is up 7%.
December 14, 200421 yr I think alot of this has to deal with just more than new water slides. I think the fact that, the market is iffy at best, more people are staying closer to home for family vacations. PKI is within 2 hours of 6 decent sized cities being: Indianapolis, Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, Louisville & Lexington. It is not a total surprise that attendance is up. Cedar Point can say whatever they want, but I think its more than just rides and slides, that are having the effect on the amusement parks. PKI has a much better location than CP, not on a lake, and even though it is landlocked, still has lots of space, a much nicer feel with shade trees and such, and centrally located to the above cities in 3 states.
December 15, 200421 yr Wait, PKI landlocked? Last time I checked they could easily mirror the park and then be landlocked.
December 15, 200421 yr Well that Parade brought in a lot of extra people, which is good. They wouldn't bring it back if it didn't bring in people.

December 15, 200421 yr Just goes to show ya that you can build those hyper coasters but they don’t always come. Or you can go with great theming and pack em in.
December 15, 200421 yr It seems that PKI had an awesome year. I'd like to congratulate the staff on it. Have a great off season! Italian Chef
December 15, 200421 yr Paramount did good in genral. PCW 30% All cause of the stupid looking flier I bet too.
December 15, 200421 yr Yes Paramount did better. Notice that together, Disney and Universal Studios dominate the top 10. PKI should strive to be more like them. And with the Nickelodeon Parade, CDBB and TIJ....it is! Have a great off season! Italian Chef
December 15, 200421 yr sometimes i think theming is good, but you dont go to a park to look at stuff, especially if you pay 60 bucks to get in... there should be COOL rides, not a flume that takes an hour... and no big drops...
December 15, 200421 yr Actually, I don't think PCW's jump in attendance was truly that high. I have read elsewhere that figures from some of the parks were reported incorrectly in 2003 which affected the attendance figures for 2004, hence the huge jump. On a side note, I'd like to know where all this shade supposedly is at PKI. It must be anywhere but ride queues cause there's none there except Delirium.
December 15, 200421 yr Yea I think that your right becuase I 30& increase in one year seems a little much.

TRTR, Face/Off, Beast, Drop Zone, Racer, Vortex... hmm, need i say more? isnt there some at the viking ship?

The big outside section of TR:TR is shaded most of The Beast que is covered same with Racer. Most of Vortex's que is also shaded. I can't of anymore right now, I'm kind of out of it today.
December 15, 200421 yr Did all of the Paramount parks offer some kind of 2 for 1 ticket deal? I wonder how this played into the attendance spike. I do remember how the crowds showed up for the season when our waterpark opened. Huge hit! I only wish that PKI could add a little to BB each year, Kinda like Holiday World generally does. It's nice to see PKI leading the seasonals again...

I dony even what th think what it looked when it first opened
December 16, 200421 yr "I dony even what th think what it looked when it first opened" Huh???? I agree though that rollercoaster don't always bring in the most people. If any of you know what Santa Clara Beach Boardwalk looks like you'll know what I mean. It only has 2 small looking coaster if I remember right and both look like something you'd see at a fair. Besides that it has a log flume and maybe 3 or 4 flats. The most famous thing is a carosel. However, the scenery around the place is amazing.
December 16, 200421 yr Yea, I didn't know that Santa Cruz got so many people. I guess this year they're installing a launch tower.
