March 6, 200521 yr Can someone please tell me the name and proper spelling of the new technology used at the Paramount Theater? It is the large screen that makes different scenery appear. I forgot. D'oh! Thanks! Italian Chef
March 6, 200521 yr It's a "scrim" effect...popularized by the Haunted Mansion darkride at Walt Disney World. You can get scrim material here: www.rosebrand.com Hope that helps... -Hauntguy

March 6, 200521 yr Oh, blue screen tech... I totally forgot that the theater uses that! It doesn't really make scenery appear, it is just edited in! Scrim effects are what makes scenery and props appear. Blue/Green screening or ChromaKeying, is just method used to replace one color with a digital image. -Hauntguy
March 9, 200521 yr You are all right..I should know since I'm an employee at a local news afiliate as well as a theatre minor. The meteorologist also uses the chromakey on a daily basis. It is a great effect, but really anyone can do it with the right software and a green or blue background. In terms of a scrim....it is basically a translucent screen that can be flown in and out. Anything behind the scrim can be made to appear just by simply illuminating whatever is behind it and reducing the amount of light in front of the scrim. To make an object disapear, you simply reverse the process.
