PkiJake13 Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 What happened to the Sky Ride Kings Island use to have? Why did they take it out? Would you want another one reinstalled? -Jake 1 Quote
PkiJake13 Posted July 12, 2005 Author Posted July 12, 2005 They are slow people movers, the one at Cedar Point has always had a line when I have been. -Jake Quote
geekzapoppin Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I first told my wife I loved her on the sky bucket ride at King's Dominion. I can understand why they're gone, but I still miss them. They were always a nice way to view the parks. 1 Quote
FOF/Z 4-ever Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 That sky ride has not been in the park since KI owned it. I'm sure due to brake downs and new rides, that is why they got ride of it. Top Gun is where part of that sky ride used to be. Quote
FOF/Z 4-ever Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Truthfully, im not sure, but i think the main page of PKIC tells you under the history of KI Quote
FOF/Z 4-ever Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Actually, here is all it says: Paramount's Kings Island: 1993 – The park becomes Paramount’s Kings Island. A suspended roller coaster, to be named Thunder Road by the former owners, is added and named Top Gun, beginning Paramount’s trend of naming most major new rides after one of their movies or television shows. Top Gun is located in what was once part of the Wild Animal Habitat and has the longest queue in the park. The Wild Animal Habitat & Monorail are closed at the end of the season. Again, that is on this site under park info, timeline. Quote
Outdoor Man Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 actually one of the loading buildings for the sky ride is still there. In NickCentral across from the carousel there is a shop (i can't think of the name). That was once the Hanna Barbera loading station. The other was over pretty close to where the loop was on the King Cobra. But the building in Nick Central has two entrances on the Eiffel Tower facing side that were the openings for the cars to come in/out... and in between the doors is a glass display... Can anyone think of the name of that shop? Quote
FOF/Z 4-ever Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 I think I know which one you are talking about, but i dont know its name, sorry. How do you know this btw? Quote
Outdoor Man Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 faint.... faint memories of riding it as a child, and I recall the loading platform. There is a picture on a website somewhere of the Wild Animal Habitat loading station.... trying to find it. Quote
Outdoor Man Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 found it... will email if wanted. The pic is an ariel of KI in 1972. Quote
FOF/Z 4-ever Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Oh, I was too young to even remember those trams Quote
Guest TombraiderTy Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Animation Station, not Adamation Station I would love it if it was brought back but slim chance. Quote
CoastersRZ Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 The Sky Ride was removed after the 1979 season. The culprit was lack of available spare parts, and low ridership. Yes, the Animation Station was one of the loading platforms. The other, was located about where Slingshot now stands. Quote
FOF/Z 4-ever Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 this site says it was removed when Top gun was put in. Is this not true? If what you say is true, then now i know why i cant remember it, lol. Quote
Gordon Bombay Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 ^I think your getting two things mixed up. When Top Gun was put in, part of the Wild animal monorail habitat was removed. This topic is talking about the sky ride which was a ride similar to a chair lift that featured bucket like cars. Quote
Vortex Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 (edited) yes, and the monorail continued to operated for the first season Top Gun was open. The concrete tunnel you walk under was a bridge for the monorail to pass over above. The monorail was closed after that season, however. Cris The monorail operated for two not one season with Top Gun. The next season you had to walk in the monorail station area to get to the line for Top Gun thats why the line is so long today. Also the other stop on the Ski Ride was a gift shop before the King Cobra was built. The exit area for the coaster used to be home to a Elephant that you could take a ride on. Okay I am showing my age now. Edited July 14, 2005 by Vortex Quote
TOPGUN1993 Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Is there anything left of the Sky Ride i mean parts or footers ???? Quote
Vortex Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Is there anything left of the Sky Ride i mean parts or footers ???? Nothing is left of the Sky Ride that I know about. I bet all the footers have long been gone. Who knows PKI might have a Ski Ride Tub put away some where or they sold them. Their is not alot left of Old Kings Island or Coney Island now days. Quote
FOF/Z 4-ever Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 i'm sure there are a few footers in some locations, such as where no one really goes. Quote
HelixSpiral Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 this site says it was removed when Top gun was put in. Is this not true? If what you say is true, then now i know why i cant remember it, lol. James, I didn't realize you were that much younger than I am. I was 13 when Top Gun opened. Quote
