flightoffear1996
I know how Dropzone breaks work and I was just wonderingt what keeps the breaks from getting peoples cell phones and other magnetic things.
FOF/Z 4-ever
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that the magnetic brakes repell each other which causes it to slow and stop. Therefore, they won't have any pull on the cell phones.
SkootersFan
Correct. *Throws Dictionary* It's BRAKES!!!
flightoffear1996
Yea I know that but wouldn't there still be an attactaion between the breaks and other metal objects.

FOF/Z 4-ever
U know, we only kid w/ LR and CN, but come one people, LAY OFF! I dont think they would attract anything, or at least not strong enough to pull peoples cell phones out of thier pockets. I'm sure if u got right up to it, where you are touching them, they might have a pull on something, but I dont think its that strong. flightoffear1996
They have to be strong because it has to stop all those people and that is alot of weight.
FOF/Z 4-ever
DZ also has braker pads, but do u see how long those mag brakes are? All and all, its strong enough to stop it, but i doubt it will attract anything.

DeLorean Rider
The magnets are rare earth magnets that are always attracting and repelling so they will always be on.
pkiboy
The magnets are rare earth magnets that are always attracting and repelling so they will always be on. That is true.
TheKlockster
Yes they are permanent brakes. But the magnets on the gondola create a magnetic field between them. Then they slide over, but do not make contact with, the fins on the tower. This causes it to slow down - but there is no physical contact at all. And why would they attract cell phones? They work in a smiliar principle to LIMs - except they are always on.

matth
I know how Dropzone breaks work and I was just wonderingt what keeps the breaks from getting peoples cell phones and other magnetic things. If you know how they work they you surely must know something about magnetism. Therefore you surely know that cellphones have very little paramagnetic or ferromagnetic stuff in them. Also the field is only strong at a very short distance similar to a flat refrigerator magnet, hold one about an inch away from the refrigerator, and it will not stick, get it extremely close and it suddenly can provide enough attractive force to hold a small amount of weight. ..matt
PKI Foodguy
Here's my question...when my wallet gets next to my name tag, which is magnetic, it totally screws up my bank card, ids, etc... Why doesn't this happen when riding DZ?

RailRider
Nicely explained Matth.... This question is just like asking well why doesnt my cell phone get yanked out of my pocket when I am waiting for FOF and it launches or even IJST. Anyways folks your cell phone better be in a closeable pocket when on rides. Afterall secure all loose articles, then you wont have to worry about your phone beeing ripped from your pocked as you ride drop zone. flightoffear1996
How cool whould that be though if it did get peoples coins and what not.Think how rich you could be!
DeLorean Rider
First off coins arent magnetic. 2 Read matts post, the magnetic field is very strong in a very small area. However several years ago I watched this show where this guy was explaining about lims and he took a giant monkey wrench and stuck it to the lsms on superman escape and then couldnt get it off, funny stuff. RailRider
I saw the exact same show and if you remember the wrench wasnt yanked out of his hand till it was almost touching the lim. Very cool though.

Admiral Ackbar
Flightoffear1996, I have to agree with matth. You claim you know how Drop Zone's Brakes work - yet you ask such a rediculous question - therefore you must know nothing. However like most fanboys you pretend to know it all. Stay in school. You may get there eventually. Oh and in addition to your signature link being rediculously huge - your site sucks.
