The Interpreter
The press release: http://www.rcdb.com/document189.htm The stats from rcdb: http://www.rcdb.com/id3183.htm Son of Beast is taller and faster. El Toro has the steepest drop of ANY wooden coaster.
tubaman
I think it looks somewhat boring.

Enchanted Voyager
Oh ok. I'll have to check this place out then, looks like a cool coaster.
harvesterofyoursorrow
I think its a really bad attempt to try to snatch some ground held by Son of Beast. The idea of a really large O&B isnt that good in my idea. The regular size is nice because you have lots of airtime close to the ground. Not 100 some feet in the air. If you want a coaster like that, get a B&M.
The Interpreter
Excuse me, but where is this airtime you see 100 feet in the air? El Toro will have airtime, but it will NOT be 100 feet in the air..that'd cost more money than Six Flags had under old management...and new management might not have built it at all. This coaster has drops that go to the ground. I have NO idea what you are talking about. Or better yet, where is the airtime AT ALL on Son of Beast? And SFGAd has its B and M's. Medusa. Nitro. Batman. Where is PKI's? Hmmmmmmm. In the entire chain, I know of Top Gun at PGA (Grand!), Top Gun at Carowinds (even more grand) and Vortex at PCWi and PGA. At PCWo, PKD or PKI? Nada. thejoker8388
Looks really cool except it seems like it is taking them forever to build it. I expect it won't open till June or possibly even July.

There are 7 "airtime" hills on El Toro. Then we take a classic O&B, Screechin' Eagle and its lift it 78 Feet. More then a hundred feet less then El Toro. RailRider
I think the SOB and Toro comparisons are a bit ridiculous. The only things these coasters have in common are: They are both wood, have big steep first drops, and are fast thats it. SOB was built to be a Twister/Hyper Woodie, whereas Toro is obviously built to be a Giant Out and Back. Two completely different ride sensations. One focuses on lateral G's while the other focuese on negative G's. Also we dont know yet wheter Toro will be smooth. Look at Villian, its a great Out and Back, but extremely rough. Compare Toro to rides like Shivering Timbers and Villian, not rides like ThunderHead and SOB. Toro looks great, but whats going to happen 5 years down the road when SixFlags forgot about maintaining it. Hopefully they change things around for real or this will be another Six Flags ride that rarely runs.
The Interpreter
First, RailRider knows wood coasters! But, the Six Flags we knew is GONE. How the new Six Flags will maintain rides is simply not known. And the correct comparisons for El Toro are not in this country. This is a prefabricated coaster, built with INTAMIN Plug N Play track. As such, Colossos and Balder are the comparisons: http://www.rcdb.com/installationresult.htm...r=1,2&model=

I was comparing the two coasters because El Toro is taking some record ground held by Son of Beast. Sure it isnt the tallest or fastest, but they can still say things like, Tallest and Fastestest Wooden Rollercoaster on the East Coast!!! ...Hope that clears it up. The Interpreter
The new Six Flags is probably more interested in saying that Six Flags Great Adventure has the grandest and best kids area in the United States, Bugs Bunny National Park. I don't think you will see Mr. Shapiro and Mr. Snyder striving for coaster records. At least for a while. But they do refer to El Toro as having a "beastly finale." It's in the original press release.
RailRider
True we dont have any results for how SixFlags operations are going to change. Lord knows it can only be for the better. I also agree that we cant truly compare Toro to anything in this country, but for the most part, besides possibly being a far smoother style of wood coaster, I think comparing what this ride sensation will be is somewhat similar to existing coasters. Just a little taller, faster, and steeper. Of cours a different design also. I hope the Intamin style track holds up quite better than traditional woodies, traditional woodies will last forever just require amazing amounts of TLC. Also hope that it provides a somewhat smoother ride, but I am affraid some people are expecting B&M smoothness. Great expectations, but hardly possible because of the material we are dealing with. Still, I think this ride will be smoother than other wood O&Bs.
KIBeast
^To add to that, with the plug and play track, they can remove entires sections at a time to replace wood as opposed to going in and doing it small sections at a time. El Toro will probably be a very smooth, wooden coaster.
RollerNut
Honestly, I think smoothness relies more on the banking of the turns, the wheel design, how much space is allowed for the cars to move around on the track, and the forces on the track. I don't know but if ya'll ever get a chance to come to Carowinds, watch how much the Hurler trains shake going thru the first banked turn from the station. RailRider
I have been on the Hurler many times. Love that ride. Another great woodie is Grizzly at PKD. Very underated, but filled with massive airtime in sections. Also quite a unique design.
