That's one of the things that surprised me at Six Flags.

The Ride Op Interaction with the guests. They honestly were giving riders high fives when they got off the rides. In the stations they started cheering sections and got everyone making lots of noise as the cars pulled from the stations.

I don't know but someone has it right at Six Flags.

part of the problem of NU... and I haven't been there yet to see, but the "paramount" in KI announced a large expansion for NU... then announced they were selling the park system. So, it is possible that due to that news funding for NU might have been scaled back... and, again I haven't been there, nor am in the "know" so this might have been the plan all along.

problems with the employees goes once step past the supervisors. Too many of the supervisors are college students just a few years ahead of their High School understudies.... and too many of them are concerned with being a "cool" sup than being firm.

Employees that break the rules "IN UNIFORM" with lewd behavior need to have their a## hauled to the Adm. building to be wrote up, fined, and fired.

I was a Supervisor for several years. The age thing was never an issue. In fact, when I worked at Beer Stands the line workers were often older than I was.

It's a respect thing. I don't think that any of my empoloyees would ever have put me in a situation that I would look bad and vice versa.

Smoking in uniform would NEVER have happened at one time.

That just floors me.

some of the staff at KI get you excited as you ride The Beast, if they are good and that is the way it should be, thats how it used to be before SoB came along, then everybody stopped cheering when leaving the station to ride The Beast.

But if you have staff that know what they are doing, and have a good attitude and really love what they are doing they will get you riled up and ready to ride.

Speaking of Six Flags...here's a pretty good article in the new online issue of Business Week:

http://yahoo.businessweek.com/magazine/con...19/b3983081.htm

Nothing really new...pretty much a compilation of the same things we've read in articles since Dan Snyder won the proxy fight. The thing I didn't know (or hadn't caught in the other articles) is that Shapiro is only 36?!?

No, not like this.

Maybe I'm not explaining it well but I've never seen this type of thing happen at a park before. Every one of the ride ops were involved in getting the guests into the excitement of each of the rides.

It didn't matter what the rides were, they were all equally as excited.

Now this went on through the day. It was the same at each location.

Now I know that even I would get tired of being "On and that Enthused" all day long. But these guys and gals never seemed to tire out.

There must be some great incentives goin on. <G>

And to be honest, I've not been that much of a Six Flags fan in the past either.

This is the first year that I'd had a season pass since I moved to Atlanta. The first year I had one and was not the most impressed with the park. I generally went once a year there after and things were pretty much more of the same. This year, and I know it's their 45th Anniversary, there is just something completely different in the air.

I'd be currious to hear if it's the same at all the other Six Flag parks.

there is a huge discrepancy between those employees who enjoy what they do and those who it seems their parents TOLD them to "get a job.... and you have to get it here." I live pretty much in a hickville area... and students in this area would be over enthusiastic to work in such an environment.

Maybe that's the difference.

When I worked at the park, you had to drive to get there. There was basically nothing on Fields Ertle Rd when I started to work at the park. Heck, I lived in Colerain Township and drove a good distance to get there each day I worked. To work as a line worker at Kinds Island, you made minimum wage only with your hourly bonus and there was still a wait to get hired.

Yes, it shows when the staff really enjoys what they are doing. Heck, I`m going back to Coney on a very limited basis, simply because I enjoy running the rides at Coney!

I`ve had operators (and riders) in the past ask me if I ever got tired of saying "Did you have fun?" or "Did you enjoy your ride?" Especially on the Ferris Wheel, where I would end up saying that twelve times per ride cycle if it was a full ride. And no I didn`t. You have to look at it as this could be the one visit a year the family makes to an amusement park. You need to make them be in a fun environment to experience the rides.

One of my managers summed it up best on a very busy day in my first season when I was at the Scrambler. He said that while we may be working hard, kids are riding the ride I am running having fun and making memories. Just seeing people have fun on the rides is enjoyable and rewarding. Especially when you get the kids (like from the Big Brothers and Big Sisters) that remember you from their visit the previous year and remember what ride you were running!

I remember a family last year who were in the very front of the line for Tomb Raider when we had to close due to a technicaly difficulty. I talked to them for almost 30 minutes before they decided to wait no longer and leave. The very next day they came back and i recognised them, they were thrilled that i had remembered their names and what we had talked about lol.

It would be cool to know a few INTERESTING facts about the rides we work on, just for Guest Relating purposes. A few days ago a guy asked me how Flight of Fear launched its trains, I didnt have much to say. Compressed Air, i guess like if you were to shake up a bottle of Coke and then unscrew the cap. Just a couple of interesting facts that we could re tell over and over again. Like the height of our mannequins on the drivers side, or something to that effect.

There used to be so many questions on the scenery at Tomb Raider. Lots of stuff to talk about.

Prices were a little higher, but that's inflation. I finally picked up Kings Island-opoly, I've been wanting it since I saw it on here during Winterfest.

It sounds like flightoffear1996 had a black cloud overhead all day, I hope your next visit is better.

I'm sorry, opening weekend or not, it SUCKED. I went to two different Six Flags parks this season on opening weekend, both were FAR more exceptional than PKI. The price increases are ridiculous. Don't tell me inflation, Cedar Point LOWERED admission AND food prices this year! Example: Hot Dog, Fries and Large Drink are now $3.99 at Cedar Point! You can't TOUCH that with ANYTHING at PKI. I'm not a whiny enthusiast, I just call it as I see it. I've been to a handful of Parks already this season and quite honestly PKI has ranked DEAD LAST compared to them. Sad thing is, most of them are Six Flags......one wouldn't think that! I honestly have little desire to return to the Park anytime soon, other than to see friends who work there. I only hope that whoever's hands the Park ends up in will take charge and get the Park back to what it used to be.

I know it to be the case at Great Adventure. Even SFKK had an atmosphere to it last weekend! As the Park was closing, ALL the character were out at the gate doing the Six Flags song and dance and saying goodbye. THAT is what guest service is about. Someone at Six Flags has done their homework and have a good thing going. I sincerely wish them all the best this season, great things are happening! SFoG was just unbelievable!

And the shows! The R and B show at SFOG was unbelievably good. Extremely high quality, actors and actresses actually singing (NOT lip synching) and dancing with high energy. And this early in the season, a FULL show schedule.

The changes at the new Six Flags simply must be seen to be believed.

Happy 45th to Six Flags Over Texas, that is.

It seems quite odd to hear Happy 45th at Kentucky Kingdom in particular!
