The Interpreter
No. Coaster Mania and Coaster Madness are PARK sponsored events, open to any card carrying member of ANY coaster club (and a guest) (and to stockholders and resort guests, or so I hear...) Reclaimer
Regarding Gold Pass perks vs Joe Cool perks, remember Cedar Fair has said that they intend to learn from, and do, some of the things that worked well for Paramount. Hopefully this includes how they treat season pass processing and perks.
CoastersNSich
Regarding Gold Pass perks vs Joe Cool perks, remember Cedar Fair has said that they intend to learn from, and do, some of the things that worked well for Paramount. Hopefully this includes how they treat season pass processing and perks. Minus the "set" bring-a-friend free days. As evidenced with Geauga Lake in 2004 vs. the previous SFWOA - Cedar Fair didn't give away the gate... Many people I know would rather pay $30 for a fully staffed, reasonably crowded park than get in for free to see the place packed and some rides either shut down or not at full capacity. The Interpreter
And at said Geauga Lake, attendance fell dramatically. The effect was such it actually negatively affected the entire chain's profit levels, such that Dick Kinzel even said they had misjudged the effect that removal of the animals had. I am not sure that was all that affected attendance at Geauga. Cedar Fair is a fine company. They do a lot of things well. But, they could learn a lot from how Paramount treats passholders and from how and when Paramount processes passes.
CoastersNSich
Then, there is also the whole other issue of the many perks that Paramount has offered thier passholders over the years. The gold pass perks such as early ride times, an exclusive parking area, meal discounts often have enticed people to not only buy a pass, but to spend money in the parks. Will the gold pass and all its perks be a thing of the past after this season? It will be interesting to see what happens. Cedar Fair will have to make decisions soon. As PKI has typically started selling next year`s passes in August. It's a good question when 2007 passes for KI (with other CF parks or just itself) will begin to be sold - this wouldn't happen until at least when Cedar Fair officially owns the 5 parks, in August or September. Another good question is when 2007 passes will be valid. Generally with Cedar Fair parks like Cedar Point, passes weren't valid until the proper season began, even though you could purchase them the fall of the year before. Processing wasn't available until winter (which could be done through the mail via renewal for existing passholders). Then again, don't be surprised if "Paramount things" are kept - but I would like to see the mail renewal brought to KI, keeping the previous photo on file. cstrwomann
I live in Ohio and I have purchased season passes for the last 10 years to Cedar Point/GL and they are very expensive. They make you pay for Joe Cool Club which doesn't give you anything except early entrance to the park. You have no reserved parking spaces for season pass holders, no discounts on food, they don't offer bring a friend free days, double ride days, but they are my home parks so I visit them. I have bought season passes for the last few years to PKI because I visit a few times per year because I like Paramount parks better then Cedar Fair parks in regards to theming, scenery, and perks. The season pass last year for both parks with water parks included and parking cost $200 and all other Cedar Fair parks were included. When Cedar Fair takes over next season how much are season passes going to cost? Will they have perks that Paramount had or will they get rid of them? Will you still be able to visit all parks? When will season passes be sold for PKI this year? You usually can't buy season passes until October for CP or GL. You also have to keep in mind that our parks are only open April-October and southern parks (Disney World) that are open all year are charging around the same price as CF so we are getting ripped off. If they add new coasters each year is this going to increase the cost of season passes? Are season passes going to be a thing of the past some day? These are questions and concerns that I have for the take over of Paramount parks. I hope that Cedar Fair doesn't make too many changes to the Paramount parks. I hope they can also add more entertainment to the Paramount parks because I feel they don't have enough for the older adults. I hope they also include a senior discount at the Paramount parks. The Interpreter
Disney passes are not anywhere close to $200. They are a LOT more than that. Unless you are a Florida (or California) resident. Don't get me started about that one! Your questions are all excellent ones. The short answer is that no one outside of Cedar Fair knows, and those at Cedar Fair may not have decided yet.
