I think it was changed to Scooby because a deal they made with Hanna Barbera. And also the ride changes every ten years from what I have read. Enchanted Voyage to The Smurfs to Phantom Theatre to Scooby Doo.

Kings Island still does have all the props mostly from Phantom Theatre as some were used in Fear Fest.

The thing with the rights for Hanna Barbera and Scooby Doo is that when the park purchased the ride from Sally Dark Rides, they bought a contract for the Scooby Doo license. The original HB license that stems from the days of Taft Broadcasting in the 60`s was apparantly set to expire in 2009, and hence the complete retheme to Nick Universe this year. Not sure what the sale has done to that contract of the HB. Yes, Phantom Theater was a much more unique attraction than SDatHC, and a remarkable ride for a seasonal theme park like KI.

No, the ride doesn`t change exactly every ten years. 1972-1983 it was the Enchanted Voyage. From 1984-1991 it was the Smurf`s Enchanted Voyage. From 1992-2002 it was Phantom Theater. From 2003-present it is Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle.

Yeah, but nothing really compared to Enchanted Voyage.

I could ride that ride all day long!

Ride Monster Plantation while you still can.

Every year I fear it will be the last...

--The Interpreter, up to about 11 MP rides so far this year...and more to come.

Well, we end up riding Monster Plantation at least once every visit.

To be honest, it's such a highly regarded ride, I can't imagine it being taken out. Besides, it's not really in a great location to put anything else.

Annnnnnddddddd ..... It's some place to cool off.

If I remember correctly when the annoucement was made that the ride would be closing... they gave away a few "packs" that had some really cool stuff about the ride and an on-ride video of it in action! Maybe it could be found on the net?

I think if KI were to open a museum about the park... bring back PT for it! That would be cool! I sure do miss that ride! -Hauntguy
