I_heart_pki
Hey I'm new on here. I've been going to Pki since I was in diapers and I have never been able to ride Drop Zone. I always chicken out. I am going Thursday with my family and boyfriend and he wants to ride so I told him that I might. now I want to ride it to prove to him that I can do it but I am terrified. Will ya'll please tell me your opinions on the ride and any tips for when i do ride it? Thank you Ashley
Racer06
If you need to close your eyes during the whole thing or just when your at the top for those long few seconds. I would close them at the top which I have done before as it makes it alot easier and stuff if you are scared of heights. But I then open them when goin down. Pkirocker77
It is a great ride, but it is scary going up. I suggest not looking down. Try not to be tense, just relax and enjoy the view. When you reach the top of the tower there will be a click. From that point it is only 3 seconds 'til you drop. I hope this helps.
TheKlockster
It might be 3 very long seconds... It is actually 5 seconds from the time you hear the motor turn off. Closing your eyes makes it way worse. I actually was scared to death of the ride until my 5th ride on it - when I looked down from the top and realized that it's only as high as the Eiffel Tower - and is going to be fun. Now I keep my eyes open the whole time - and don't hold on during the drop. It is the best ride at the park.
screamingnight
Well just close your eyes through the whole thing until you drop about 3 feet then open them. you wwill love this ride!
The Interpreter
My advice is different. What each of us likes or doesn't varies. Maybe you will love this ride, maybe not. But if you ride it, make HIM ride something or do something he doesn't particularly care for later! That's part of what life is all about...fair play and sacrificing for others you love. KIfan73
When I finally worked my nerve up, it was kind of weird. Once you actually get in line, your mind is more on just standing in line than actually thinking about the ride. Once you're in the queue, its like the anxiety goes away. Then if you just concentrate on gettting in and locking up, it doesn't really seem that bad. At least thats what worked for me.

I was going to say the exact same thing, I was terrified of the thing until last summer, but if you just get on it, and don't worry, by the time you're halfway up the tower you realize you have to come back down and you have little choice about it so you might as well enjoy it. Then it becomes fun. Drop zone went from being the one ride in the park i feared most, to being one of my all time favorites. Have fun
SOB_TOM
When you get to the top, stick your arms and legs straight out. Its the easiest way to do it
TheKlockster
Yeah thats how I ride now. It is so much fun. I almost always ride facing Skyflyer's arch also - so its funny when you pass the top of it and realize youre just a little over half way up. screamingnight
thats the most scarriest part on top knowing your going to drop but it seems like forever!
KIBeast
I don't know about any tips, but, Drop Zone is the only ride that scares me at KI. I've managed to ride it a few times and I get terrified every single time. The ride doesn't bother me until we pass the bungee tower on the way up. Then I know you're really starting to get up there. marlfox_21
When going up the lift, get your mind on something else. Look for your car in the parking lot, for example. Or look for the pieces of King Cobra back behind the Son of Beast.
Vortexlover2
it will feel like you're at the top before you actually are, so if you feel as if you're at the top, but your not going down, just look up to see how much longer it will be until you reach the top. Also, make sure you don't ride it when there's a long line your first time. That happened to me when I rode it, and I had to go to the bathroom SOOOOO BAAAAAAD! I also felt as if I had a ceisure from shivering in fright. But then I rode it, and it was AWESOME!!!!! just think of it this way: Its only a hundred feet higher than Son of Beast! if that made it worse sorry
TheKlockster
Actually it is only 47 feet higher than Son of Beast. Son of Beast is 218 feet high - and Drop Zone's DROP is 265 feet (the tower is 315 - NOT the drop). But Son of Beast's drop is 55 degrees and Drop Zone is 90. So the drop seems like alot more. But yeah if you think about it - you're only about 50 feet higher than the top of Son of Beast - though when you're up there you would hardly believe it if you're sitting in a seat facing Son of Beast. TOPGUN1993
I don't think Drop Zone is very scary anymore but it's really short.
beastdude
OK my advice is to look up when your traveling up it realy helps, and keep you back against the seat then slowley look straight out. closing your eyes is a bad idea so dont do it. ummmmm when you start to go down just let your feet fly up and youll be fine. Any other advice just ask. PS I am still very scared to go on drop zone, the point of the ride is to scare you.
coaster-chickie
Drop Zone is a great ride, and (for me at least) the only scary part is going up. Like marlfox said, focus on something else on the way up. When I ride I always see how many people I can get to wave at me before I'm too high up to see. Sometimes I'll just make conversation with somebody else next to me. once you realize it's time to drop you'll probably get all anxious, but just sit back and enjoy the view. The first time I got dropped it scared the crap outta me, but now it's just too fast to scare me anymore. Don't worry, you'll love the ride! Have fun! I allways have the same problem! I start to get in line for it but I never get in line! The thing is you look at it online and your like "OH I wan't to ride that! But when you see it in person it's like no way! I am going back soon and I am going to ride it! Take coaster-chickie's advice you will do fine! My son is scared to ride it but if we promise to talk to him on the way up it takes his mind off of it and it isn't so bad. My husband points things out like the new lodge, how many cars are in the parking lot, look and see if Top Gun is running or if he can see the old King Cobra track behind SOB. It works really well for him.
