I know this is a stupid idiotic idea and the park would never do it but oh well here it goes . . .

Maybe take Son of Beast down. Few years later buld again but this time let Gravity Group build it with steel supports and a different matrial of wood. Make the loop a little bigger and the second hill a tad bit bigger. What do you think of my idea?

If SOB were to be torn down and rebuilt I hope they would be more creative and do a few more things to it. Being that SOB is the first looping woodie why not add another loop, corkscrew or other inversion? I think if its torn down though it won't be coming back.

Yes - I wish that one was still around. An inverting woodie in my home town of Louisville!

There were plenty of REAL inverting wood coasters. They pulled extreme amounts of G force - like over 7 Gs. They were downright dangerous. Keep in mind the Clothoid Vertical Loop wasn't invented until the 1970s - interestingly enough by the man who designed Son of Beast!

PKI marketed SOB as the the ONLY wooden looping coaster, not the first. I have many books with old photos of looping woodies from the early 1900's. Most of them had cirlce shaped loops instead of the tear drop shape like you see today and they werent very sucessful back then. It wasn't untill Anton Scwhartzkoph built the revolution that the modern looping coaster really took off. SOB is the first modern looping wooden coaster, but not the first in history by any means.

Hey Werner Stengel invented the Clothoid Vertical Loop - for Revolution. The coaster itself was made by Anton Schwarzkopf.

Stengel is known for two major contributions to roller coasters - the clothoid loop and heartlining.

Ya i know what you mean. Somne of those old coasters were almost too intense. But I also know what you mean withall of that modernizing stuff with the loops. I would like to see sob stay but with maybe a smoother track or less track or something to make it fun and wld, but with way less injury or problems.

I think we should contract pinfari to redo Son of Beast.  It would be OUTSTANDING!

I can think of only one worse possibility. Tomb Raider at Wonderland.

Zamperla and flying coaster.

Two things that should NEVER go together.

Could you scan those pictures from your books?

I don't care what they do to the ride, I just want it reopen. It may not be the best ride at PKI but I do enjoy it when it don't beat me up.

Those last six words are a good reason why I wonder when and if it will reopen.

Most people don't ride as much as you no doubt do. And they certainly would not expect those last six words to be something they should even be thinking about on a day of planned fun and amusement.

Here is what I would do:

I would nock out the rosebowl or at least that is what I think it is called, have you go down the hill and then have some terrain track, then you would go up a small lift hill and go into the look and hopefully the rest of the track will be made smoother. I just don't know why they had to put so many helixs on the ride that is like all it is and I don't think that they are a whole lot of fun, your comments welcome cool.gif

I honestly started to avoid SOB starting last fall. I'm not a spring chicken (33), and I honestly felt like the couple times I have been in a car accident after I rode it. I really hate it for the park, because it was such a huge undertaking, and sucha great concept.

I've never liked its placement, either. To me, it almost seems like an afterthought. Like, its just kind of out on the outskirts, and has such a nondescript queue. Of course, The Beast is WAY out there, but I don't get the same feeling with it.

I really hope I'm in the minority, and they can get it up and running SAFELY asap.

Not trying to sound mean, but, there are only two helixes on Son of Beast. It's only one more than The Beast. I really don't think that they are that bad, except at the bottom. biggrin.gif
