Here's a report of our trip to Nick or treat and fearfest on Sept. 30th.

We arrived around 1PM and were pleased that the parking lot was not overflowing biggrin.gif

We really liked the decorations on the outside of the park, especially the King Cobra cars with skeletons in them. The decor in the park was really good too. I don't know how to compare it to any previous years being that this is the first chance we've had to visit in October.

We met up with some family at Starbucks for coffee and to decide where to start. We finally ended up letting the kids, 10, 12 and 16 decide what to do. Here's the order of the rides we did get on. Bumper Cars, FX Theater (Clown Chaos), Adventure Express, Eiffel Tower, Viking Fury, Fairly Odd Coaster, Avatar and that was it. We all love rides and usually are trying to ride every coaster in the park but this time we actually enjoyed walking around the park checking out the decorations and enjoying the great weather we had. We finally ended up sitting down (back at Starbucks again) and waiting for Fearfest to start.

Fearfest was AWESOME. Even our 10 year old loved it. She has only been through one haunted house and freaked out when we went through it but she seemed to do ok with all that was going on around the park. We tried to avoid Scare Zones when possible just for her sake. The only FF attraction we got to do was Headless Hollow and we loved it. It was really funny how many people honestly seemed shocked that we had to get off the train! LOL The walk back was fun. Especially the really thick fog that they had going on a few times. You honestly couldn't see where you were going, who was in front of you. Really creepy! International Street was really cool. The "creeps" there did a really good job and just getting out of the park can be challenging for people who scare easy. They have a TON of fog going at the front gates. LOVED IT!

I think that one of the greatest decorations for FF is the way that the Eiffel Tower is light with blacklights. That was TOTALLY AWESOME.

We plan to go back this weekend or next without our 10yo so that we can experience all of the Scare Zones and Mazes. If you are into the whole Holloween season and like haunted houses you need to go to KI Fearfest!

Glad to hear you enjoyed your day SeasonPass4Life, yeah the day was pretty good. The only FF thing I've been to was last years Friday 13, in the Paramount Theater. But the times last year I got a day off or worked a open, the night would be just packed solid. But hope this year the lines won't be to insane. I really want to go on Headless Hollow!!

Ever since they started letting Fearfest be free with your admission the park has become a lot more crowded. I just hope it isnt crowded when i go up on the 28th but with it being the last weekend it is open i am sure that it is going to be packed. So i hope it rains hard and then it lets up when we get there,

Yes, the park, at least in my opinion, made a wise move making FearFest free with park admission and to season pass holders. I`m sure that all the increased revenue they make in admissions to the park, games and food has made up for the fact that pass holders get in free. Compared to the days of the ticketed FearFest, the crowds are a lot larger.

The one plus side to them charging for Fear Fest, is you did not have stupid parents with their small kids still at the park at 10 o`clock at night walking through the scare zones! That happened to me on Saturday when walking through the Work Site. This mom came through screaming at the scaractors not to do anything because she had a screaming kid. Kind of ruined it for the rest of us. Could she not have walked a different path to get to where she was going? If it was International Street I could understand as they would have to walk that way

I've never really quite understood why Scarowinds attracts huge crowds and is an upcharged attraction, while Kings Island gets similar crowds (given the park's size) while not charging (after the initial Fear Fest).

Must be a difference in demographics and what the public is willing to pay between the Carolinas and the Midwest...
