Argh...I love first gen. Intamin freefalls. I honestly think they are some of the most frightening rides available at parks today. I have always made it a point to hit Demon Drop on every trip to Cedar Point.

Nope.

Parts are expensive and many have to be made--and yet neither Cedar Fair nor Six Flags was interested in buying one or more of them from the other.

The machines are becoming less and less reliable. The one in Georgia, for instance, is frequently closed. The one at Geauga was closed frequently before it closed for good. The one at New Jersey spent most of this past summer closed, got fixed, then this happened!

99 percent, or more, of park visitors visit only one major park and perhaps Disney...they don't know or care what is or is not elsewhere. And Demon Drop almost never, ever has a line.

I'd say, sadly, its days are numbered.

All this makes me sad. I love those things. Demon Drop, by far being the best of the bunch, freaks the hell outta me. There is just something about that little jump and pause as the car reaches the top of the elevator shaft before it advances to the drop shaft. Yikes. I bet butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it. The newer drop rides do nothing for me, except for Hellevator at SFKK. Sigh...

I agree dude! I love Demon Drop. Never even got to ride it when it was popular.

Camden Park could use a ride like this. Unfortunately, if parts are hard to come by and CP has no money anyway, this is not feasible, but fun to dream about.

Actually, when I saw this thread, Camden Park was my first thought too. But, who knows what kind of money, if any, they have to spend.

As someone who watched what happened to Thunderbolt Express, the thought of one of first generation Intamin drop rides at Camden Park leaves me.....speechless.

That definetly gives us and idea of the money and mantinence dept. they have.

I don't know what these rides are like though. I've been to Cedar Point once, and we chose not to ride it because there are other things we wanted to get done.

The Skyliner stood inoperable the entire 2006 season, the back seat of the Big Dipper has been missing for several seasons now...

Six Flags and Geauga Lake were unable to keep these Intamin drop rides running most of the time, and we are supposed to ponder moving this thing to Camden Park? Seems to me that would not be a very smart move on Camden's part. For one thing, they could use some of the money that would be used for that for paint for the Big Dipper (or to replace the partly painted timbers with unpainted modern pressure-treated ones...)

Myself, Dane, Ryan, and Bill plan to form an investment group to purchase Americana and get it re-opened, if any one wants to spot us the money we'll buy one of these and put it in, oh and if you could loan us the money for the park too that would be great.

^No way Combat! People are going to send me the money to buy Camden plus extra to completely restore the entire park. ;)

Interpreter, I did briefly mention that Camden doesn't have the money to buy or maintain a 1st Gen. Intamin freefall. So, I'm not under any delusions. :P But, in a dream world where Camden has money to buy and maintain a ride like this, it would be a good installation for a park of its' size. Large rides just wouldn't fit in with Camden.

I agree the first generation free falls, are much more scarier then the newer ones. Demon Drop and others like it had always giving me that nervous feeling at the top. Another reason taller doesn't always mean better.

That would be amazing.......
