The Interpreter
$7,500 Of Loose Change Found Underneath Coasters At Cedar Point POSTED: 10:53 am EST December 19, 2006 UPDATED: 11:25 am EST December 19, 2006 SANDUSKY, Ohio [AP] -- Anyone who has been on Cedar Point's roller coasters knows they can produce a lot of loose change. But what happens to that money? Cedar Point employees collect and turn in the loose change found underneath the rides, on the midway or in the park's fountains to the loose change fund. The amusement park said that this year employees collected about $7,500 and will donate it to a soup kitchen in Sandusky. The park has donated more than $170,000 from the loose change fund to charity since 1988.
CoastersRZ
Kings Island`s loose change goes toward funding scholarships for the seasonal workers. That is a lot of money in loose change. Glad to see that it goes to a great cause!
Avatar
Thats great!! I first heard this story om the radio today. I also wonder how much the paid for the labor to pick-up all that lose coins.
CoastersRZ
I`d imagine that the coinage was collected as part of the clean up procedure for the rides. So while there likely are some costs involved with collecting the coins, I`d assume that most of the cost is part of normal clean up at the parks. TOPGUN1993
I saw a lady cleaning the park and her name tag had a bunch of coins in it.
harvesterofyoursorrow
A good reason NOT TO TAKE the money on top of the TR:TR queue nets!
Discodude3737
You really have to work to get money from the TR queue nets...it's not a simple task by any means.
harvesterofyoursorrow
I've seen it done by bored GP waiting in line. Just get a coat and a few people who want to run get the money when it flies off.
The Interpreter
...and in reality this is different from stealing money from a cash register or candy from a baby exactly how?
WooferBearATL
Essentially it's money that has been given away Mr. Interp. You could make an arguement that money tossed into a fountain is donated to the park. Money that is simply lost by the patron with no way of claiming such is just that.
