Kings Island name

Featured Replies

With the new recording at Kings Island and the new logo both omitting the word, Paramount, does anyone know if and when "Paramount" will be officially dropped from Kings Island?

I figure if not this year, next year. And I anticipate a new URL. We shall see.

Have a great day!

Yes, the "Paramount" name is not mentioned on the telephone recording at PKI, 800-288-0808.

thank-goodness hope to see the sign out front missing paramount soon:

To my understanding, the Park is going to slowly phase out the Paramount name, starting with general correspondence. A friend of mine in the call center still says "Paramount's Kings Island" and last I heard they were not forcing such a change in wording in their telephone greetings. Course, old habits are hard to break. It was hard to get in the habit of saying "Paramount" but in late 1992, it was enforced that the park be called by its full new name by personnel. As many of you already know, the usage of the Paramount brand names may continue on certain attractions, and I am sure that is being evaluated on a case by case basis (at least for now). I look for changes to be visible on the website and any printed matter (Park brochures and maps will not be ready until March or April so I have been told) real soon also. Other changes such as removing the mountain from garbage cans, signage, coaster cars may take time but I think we can definately see big changes made this year and in the years to come. While many of us are curious about when changes such as these will take effect, im certain changing some signs is not the most important thing on their minds at this stage in the game. Just my opinion, of course. (GASP) I know you guys arent going to like this one--- but I personally will miss Paramount. I cant say that the past few CBS years have been terrific, but overall the ambiance I will miss. Anyways, great website and I will be with all of you in counting down the days til the opening.

Well, technically Kings Island only had one year under complete control of CBS. Viacom and CBS split into two seperate companies at the beginning of 2006. Paramount Parks landed in the slow groth side of the split which was the CBS side of things. CBS then instituted a bare bones approach to staffing the park that resulted them in not opening the front gates at KI until 10am, which caused huge lines at the metal detectors.

I think that Paramount did numerous things right, such as pass processing and the use of online feedback surveys. However, some of their ride location placements, themes, and even manufacturers are questionable. But, I think they were smart to focus on the family friendly approach that seems to be grabbing hold of most of the rest of the industry now (with that respect, they were a couple of years ahead of their time).
