Safari Ride?

Featured Replies

For some reason, I remember there being a monorail type ride at Kings Island that went back into an Animal Park. It was back by the Screemin Demon, I think.

Is this correct, or am I just confusing this with another park? I somehow remember air conditioned monorail trains that went back into an "animal kingdom" so to speak.

If not there, then I wish I knew where this was as I've been racking my brain trying to figure it out.

Thanks!

Ok...after racking my brain for a few hours, I've found out that I was right.

The ride was called "Lion Country Safari and Monorail" which was later named the "Wild Animal Habitat" in 1983.

I found this from a park timeline compiled by Chris Cowan at Theme Park Timelines, who added Mark Harris as a reference as well for his help. This is a great timeline and shows brochures from every year up to 2005. I highly recommend his compilation.

You are absolutely correct. There was an animal park, featuring mostly African animals. The monorail actually is still in use. It is at Jungle Jim Supermarket in Fairfield. They bought the whole thing. It sat for quite a few years before it was assembled and put into operation. STOP racking your brain. It is in tact and your memory is correct. There was an additional charge for the monorail/animal park. I don't remember what it cost. I know that it was quite reasonable.

That was the other part I found out as well. Cracks me up. I was wondering why the monorail at Jungle Jim's looked familiar. We shop there every so often. Thanks for the information!

So the monorail at Jungle Jims is now running?

^No it is not, but it is currently under construction. The jungle jims monorail does have a working transfer track though.

Well, I recall seeing in the news several weeks ago, that Jungle Jims decided not to open a store in a new development in Oakley, as they want to concentrate their efforts on the original store location. Included in this effort is getting the monorail operational.

Why leave this site for the historical timeline of the park, when one can be found on this site?

Honestly, I hardly ever navigate around this site except to the forums so This timeline was not something I ever even looked at!! I'll definitely check it out now that I know it's there. I mainly have used this site for current information and community, rather than information on the park of the past. Learn something new every day!!

This is something I remember from my childhood trips to the park that I've been thinking about - thanks for bringing it up! For those who work at the park: how much of the habitat is still back behind SOB? I remember the safari, but I don't remember how the exhibits were contained or anything like that. Is there anything left?
