Knowing that I would be attending both CP and KI this year I went ahead and bought myself a Maxx Plus Pass from KI's website a feww months ago. With all the advertising about the Gold Pass I was wondering if my Maxx Pass can be used as a Gold Pass. Does anyone know?

If it's like past years, the style/color of the pass itself will change after the deadline. After all, if I remember correctly, there is no scanner at the checkpoint for early ride entry.

If they do check at entry, I am sure it could also be encoded. . .

At Cedar Point, Joe Cool is denoted by the letters JC appearing on your pass, Maxx by MX, and Ohio Parking by OP (and I wonder if KI will recognize that last one at the parking tolls!)

OK one more question. I've heard rumblings that Maxx Passes from the old Paramount Parks work poorly at the Cedar Fair parks and vice versa. Is this true? Has anyone had trouble using their Maxx Pass at GL or CP?

Yes it is kind of a pain to go to CP with a maxx pass bought at KI but a Maxx pass purchased at CP can be scanned right at the front gate at KI go figure.

It's been my experience that the CP pass does NOT scan at Kings Island. Since it has a picture on it, they at least sometimes let you in at the gate without going to GR. After all, all scanning a Kings Island pass does FOR THE ADMISSIONS PERSON, is bring up your picture. (Yes, I know it also records you used your pass that day...)

A Carowinds Maxx pass also does not scan at the gate. It does not have a picture on it. I was directed to guest relations to get a ticket, while my Cedar Point pass bearing friend was not.

In that same vein, there is a small amusement park not too far from Kings Island with barcodes on its passes. Each is carefully scanned on your way in, with a nonfunctional reader. The barcodes are decorative, but the guests don't know that!
