I haven't seen this, so forgive me if it has already been brought up. What happened to the trams that took guests to their cars and what year did they stop that?

Several years now they haven't ran. Remember though they actually started to phase them out before they actually stopped them. At first they used to have stop at the end towards the middle of each Character rows, then they went to the tram stops. The trams stops were a cost cutting measure I'm sure.

I figured that had something to do with it. I left here in 1986, and didn't return until 1995. In the few years I was here until 1999, i never made it to KI, and then left for Cali again then. I came back in 2001, and didn't get back to the park until 2004. So somewhere in all that, I missed the time when they were phased out. I just remember thinking in 2004 what a walk it had become. I feel bad for some of the elders-they are worn out by the time they get to the gate for a wheelchair.

They completely ceased operation in 2006 when CBS corp. was in control of the park and for most of the season you could see them sitting in the parking lot near the GWL. My dad and I were just having this conversation when we were first talking about getting MAXX passes, he opted out of buying one cause he doesn't go that often but he commented that with how much you pay for parking you dont even get a somewhat shaded lot, a tram service, and its not even paved or marked that well.

I can't think of a legacy Cedar Fair park with trams. . .

Hmm-I don't remember seeing the trams in 2004....not paying attention I guess, but I agree-with the parking lot cost, seems to me they could find a way to run them. Weren't they electric or something like that?

No, they were gas powered. They did run briefly last year if I remember correctly. But they only operated on weekends when the park was busy.

When a park as massive as Cedar Point has no trams, I doubt you will see Mr. Kinzel and company starting them back up at Kings Island.

When a park as hilly as Dorney Park....

I kind of remember seeing signs as we went thru the toll booths telling us if the trams were running or not last year. I believe the signs are gone this year.

The speedier and easier solution for me would be rollerblades, however, can't bring those to the park.

Sure-I "bladed" in Cali down some of those mountains-with all the protective gear, its not too bad....

Also they started the practice last year which seems to continue this year, they usually only open the South Lot Tolls, unless the park is going to busy (weekends). I much rather enter thru the North Lot as we come in from the North, it's hard to make that left turn going into the South Lot, cause it wasn't designed to make a left turn from there. LOL

I'm pretty sure they only ran on weekends even back then, and only "busy" weekends at that, I dont remember a time when the trams ran consistently. Although, I'm sure WooferBear can tell you of the times back in the 80's when Carl Linder himself drove a whole fleet of trams that were made out of gold, had lush leather seating, air conditioning, and drove you wherever you deisred in a parking lot that was well paved and covered by lush trees all of which paramount destroyed!

I remember those days as well-also in the 70's. It was kinda neat getting on them with all the other families-gave you a chance to talk about the day and compare notes.

And you can still do that today at, among other places, Disney, Dollywood, Six Flags Great Adventure, Over Georgia or Discovery Kingdom. And unless you walk to the park or park in preferred parking, you MUST use the tram at Busch Gardens Africa!

Maybe the reason the other CF parks don't operate shuttles is because well - they dont own any. If shuttle service is going to give a better guest experience, i can imagine youll see them return. Cedar Point, by the way has several shuttles, the illustrious "Causeway Cruiser" for the employees which i never ever road, even on restricted parking days - and the resort shuttles.

Maybe they want you to walk your fat behind to the front gate so youll be hungry and more opt to buy some of that 85.00 pizza or a 125.00 elephant ear.
