I think that it may have to do with the fact that the track in that are is directly connected to the foundations. There are no support columns, so it might be a stiffer connection. Thus instead if the columns absorbing some of the vibration, there is nothing to dissipate the vibration, so the train vibrates.

Small Park Marketing: Bright Ideas
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Well, every single day was a different deal of the day. And the day was clearly marked on the coupons (which were printed right off of peopl`s printers. The bigger issue was that we didn`t necessarily know ahead of time what the deals were going to be. When the deal of the day was the reduced price for Eurobungee, that attraction often would get slammed, and we would only have the bare minimum staffing on it. -
Cinci Public Library Peanuts Exhibit

That was a very bad pun! It does make sense though. Planet Snoopy sparked interest in this area in the Peanuts gang. -
Cinci Public Library Peanuts Exhibit

Sure seems like the Peanuts exhibits are a popular thing right now between the Cincinnati Library and the Louisville Slugger Museum. -
Small Park Marketing: Bright Ideas

Well, I believe that the deal of the day for the free drinks at Larosa`s required one thing. That the guests buy ONE pizza. It was a far better deal than the proclaimed "family meal deal" at KI`s LaRosa`s. Not to mention that if you are a regular pass holder at Coney, you automatically get 10% off food purchases (its 20% if you are a Platinum Pass holder). -
From IAAPA`s (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) Funworld Magazine November/December 2010 edition: http://www.iaapa.org/industry/funworld/2010/nov/features/BrightIdeas/index.asp Towards the end of the article is a mention of Coney Island. It includes a quote by Vic Nolting, the President of Coney. What the article talked about is essentially Coney`s "Deal of the Day" This summer, Coney had a "Deal of the Day" everyday on their website (Coneyislandpark.com). The deal changed everyday. Guests could print out the coupon and get some great deals. Some of those deals included rides admission for $5.95 (normal price is $11.95!). Other days, the deal was for free parking, or free drinks at LaRosa`s. I know that the deal of the days on ride admissions were used quite a lot.

As some one who has experience in the field of architecture, I need to comment on some things. Building codes are typically applied at the state level (for example the Ohio Building Code). Individual jurisdictions do not typically have their own building codes. They do, however, have their own zoning codes and ordinances, which impact property setbacks, parking counts, landscaping requirements, etc. It is these requirements that govern planting trees, etc. That is where some of the issues with plantings may come into effect. However, if plans are submitted to a certain building department, then that is where the building inspectors will come from. And again, Kings Island is part of Mason, not part of Deerfield Township anymore. As an aside, most building codes are based off of the International Building Code. Most states will adopt amendments to this building code.
-
Well, most fire departments have mutual aid agreements. If one department is on a run, another department will respond if another call comes in. Also, as witnessed with Diamondback, all building permits at Kings Island go through the city of Mason.
-
I totally read that post wrong, lol. But when something is annexed, it does become part of the city limits. It just means the city limits are not contiguous. Which is why Mason police and fire respond to KI.
-
Actually, Kings Island IS in the city of Mason. It used to be in Deerfield Township, until Mason annexed it. That's partially why KI was up in arms when Mason wanted to impose an admissions tax and parking tax on Kings Island.
-
And another little known fact is that the stage still remains in the building. Although, I`m fairly certain that CarnEvil now remains set up year round in there.

Only reason I can think of is the slope of the new ramp is less than the original ramp. Likely a response to make the ramp comply with the 1:12 slope requirements of the ADA. The original ramp had less space to run out compared to the current ramp, meaning it likely had a steeper slope. Some of the old footings for the old exit can still be seen if you look closely enough.

Michigan's Adventure: Beach Party 2011

Check out post #12, posted yesterday morning! -
And remember that those "new" trees in Coney mall were not actually new. They relocated many of them from Coney Island. And in fact, when Coney Mall was redone in 1986, several of the ginko trees made their way BACK to Coney. (They are no longer trimmed in the push up pop manner anymore, though. If you want to see them, they are located behind the Famous Fairways Miniature Golf). And to the right side of that picture, you can tell there is some shade from some trees, so it does not look like they have removed all the trees. The bigger question is it looks like they have removed the brick wall that lined the center islands in that midway, effectively removing lots of seating space. So they better replace it with lots of benches, or something similar. People would sit on those walls all the time in the shade eating Skyline, or waiting for family members who were on the Monster or Scrambler or Zephy.

Another fire at CP
CoastersRZ replied to PhantomTheater's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Wow. That is the third fire at Cedar Point this year. First the maintenance building by Corkscrew, then the small fire at Mean Streak, and now the small electrical transformer fire. Hopefully things will cool down here and there has not been any serious damage. As The Interpreter has said, fires can be a real nemesis and threat for amusement parks. -
Michigan's Adventure: Beach Party 2011
CoastersRZ replied to thekidd33's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Yes, they did state that. However, Carowinds also had a multi-million dollar new ride this year as well. Michigan`s Adventure did not. -
Ironically, Kings Island does not make me take my glasses off on Firehawk. While riding Nighthawk at Carowinds, they made me take my glasses off, even with an athletic strap. However, prescription glasses are one item which you are permitted to leave in Firehawk`s station.

I could, in all seriousness, see them going the Six Flags route of saying no loose articles. Loose articles must be stored in a locker or with a non-rider. Oh yeah, lockers are $5 and one time use only.

Michigan's Adventure: Beach Party 2011
CoastersRZ replied to thekidd33's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
So what Cedar Fair parks have not announced anything yet for 2011? Kings Dominion and California`s Great America? Carowinds- Snoopy`s Starlight Spectacular Michigan`s Adventure- Beach Party Dorney Park: Planet Snoopy Valleyfair: Planet Snoopy Worlds of Fun: Planet Snoopy & former Geauga Lake Carousel Cedar Point: WindSeeker Kings Island: WindSeeker Knott`s Berry Farm: WindSeeker Canada`s Wonderland: WindSeeker. And unless Kings Dominion gets a new coaster (unlikely since they got I305 this past year), or California`s Great America gets a coaster (also unlikely due to the ongoing 49ers stadium fiasco), then Cedar Fair will NOT be installing any new roller coasters in 2011! -
No, I wasn`t trying to tell you off or say you were nuts. I was simply stating that in general, up charge attractions are low capacity, which is part of the reason they are made up charge attractions. If they were free, the line, although short in terms of number of people, would take hours. By charging guests, they can generate some revenue, while also weeding out enough people to make the experience enjoyable for those willing to pay for it. Which is also why the price of Slingshot and Skyflyer go up once they start to get a line. There is a greater demand for those, and the good old economics principles of supply and demand dictate that when demand is high, and supply is limited, the price will go up. Many years back, on P&G day, P&G rented out Thunder Alley. It cost guests nothing to do. While there were only maybe 40 people in line, because only about twelve cars at a time run, the line was nearly an HOUR for go karts.
-
For example, they would not want to say things are "Dropping in" prior to an official announcement being made, only to have plans change, and that hint being a mute point.
-
And why would they do that? They have not been marketing them as such. Not to mention that these rides hold 64 people per cycle, which will equate to decent throughput for a flat ride. (Drop Tower only gets 40 people per cycle, and some rides like the Scrambler can get even less, depending on how many single riders there are. While Cedar Fair may be trying to earn all the nickles they can, I can safely say they will not make these upcharge attractions.
