Based on the comments in that video, they are only painting the track, and it appears as if it is getting painted the same color. Too bad they aren`t painting the supports as well. And too bad they kept the silver color. It would have been nice to return the red color or add a different color. At least they are giving the ride some attention. Not as much attention as it should get, but its better than not getting painted at all. Now the one ride with supports that do need painted are Invertigo! The red is badly fading to pink. (And Delirium could use a touch up in some areas, as there are a few rust spots on the arm). And I have some more pictures from Coney this summer (including the new bumper boat dock). They will eventually find their way onto Coney Island Central, but I have not had the time to get them up there just yet.

This is a very vague topic. There are already other topics about behind the scenes topics on here. Please use those before starting new topics.

Flight Deck's track, for the most part was NOT rusted. It simply was the faded red showing through the steel track. And some rust actually helps protect the steel. And for the record Coney Islander, the Python is now simply the Python. The sign on the ride that used to say Pepsi has been replaced with a Coney Island sign.

So? That does not prove or disprove that they intend to not open the ride next year.

I do NOT like those Dyson air dryers. I've seen so many kids rub their hands all over them. They seem very un-hygienic. I much prefer the Xcelerator dryers that can be found at Coney and Cedar Point. They work a lot better at drying your hands off too.

That is what the caption for the image says, isn`t it? It will be interesting to see how traffic flows next year, back with The Vortex exit, the entrance and exit for WindSeeker and the Action Theater. Especially during Haunt, with Urgent Scare back there. Hopefully those restrooms back there receive some TLC as well. In fact, in general I think some of KI`s restrooms could use some sprucing up. Not necessarily new fixtures and such, but some of the counter tops around the sinks look like they have been untouched since the early 90`s or before. I even witnessed some restrooms that had broken tiles on the backsplashes, etc. Not a lot of tiles, just one or two. But still, it is all about image. I mean, when was the last time that new restrooms were built at KI? 2004 with the expansion of Boomerang Bay saw some new restrooms, but as far as the dry side of the park, I have no clue.

Which is kind of unfortunate, because the gray supports and silver track just seem so drab and unexciting. If they made the track a more vivid color that contrasted with the supports more, it would make the ride pop some more. Which would be a good thing, since it is kind of off the beaten path, considering the length of the line and exit to get back to it! But at any rate, it is nice to see a ride getting repainted. Maybe i`m just spoiled with the Python at Coney that went from a faded green track to a bright yellow with black rails paint job for this past season (not to mention colorful flags were added to the top of the ride).

I recognize Shaggy and Terpy, but who is this "EZ" poster you speak of? I think it will certainly be interesting to see if there are any color changes occurring to Flight Deck. Based on the color of the primer, it would appear that they are not changing the color too drastically. Otherwise, they likely would have used a tinted primer. (That is what they did when they painted the Firehawk track red. They first painted it a brown color primer.

Hopefully, they pick a brighter color scheme than the drab gray blue supports and silver track. It was always ho hum, and at least the red track was vibrant. The silver was too close to the support color. Personally, I`d love to see a paint scheme either like Nighthawk at Carowinds, or Afterburn (silver track and dark blue supports). I`ve had a hunch they were painting it, ever since I spied equipment underneath the ride on one of the final days of operation.

Really? What other color would you like to see in the pavers? Pavers naturally have to be earth tones, as that is the color of the ingredients that go into making them. I think the pavers will make Coney Mall look nice, regardless of the color. They will certainly brighten up the area, with the old asphalt removed.

In the future, you need to provide a LINK to where you are taking pictures. Simply stating where they are from, without a link is not good enough.

Coney Island to Host Cirque du Soleil's Ovo
CoastersRZ replied to XGatorHead 8904's topic in Coney Island Central
Yes, there is always the threat of flooding at Coney in the spring. But all the several years that Coney held the Flower show (right around the same time frame), it never once was flooded out. I do not know where they will have the tents for this. They could put them where they put the flower show tents, located between Lake Como and Kellogg Avenue. The other possibility would be to put them in the gravel parking lot by Gate 1 (the parking lot closest to Moonlite Gardens and used for picnic grove traffic). It will be exciting times at Coney. Not to mention that the last weekend of the show at Coney will also coincide with the official kick off to Coney`s 125th anniversary, the 2011 Appalachian Festival that runs May 6-8th. Coney`s rides typically are open the Saturday and Sunday of the Appalachian Festival (at least they have been the last nine years). -
Yes those brick benches have been there for tears. Glad to see they are staying.

FUN Times At Cedar Fair
CoastersRZ replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Wow, that is rather complimentary. I think that Cedar Fair was blessed (at least Kings Island was) with near perfect weather in the month of October. I think it rained maybe one day in October when the park was open, and then it was only for a few hours, and it never got bitterly cold for an entire weekend at KI. But of course, the Cincinnati area is also suffering from drought like conditions, as the latest rainfall deficit (compared to normal levels) stood at 9.33" as of a few days ago! Hopefully, this momentum can be sustained, especially as the company prepares to transition to new leadership, either now or in the coming years. Especially since next year seems to be a rather light year in terms of capital expenditures (no roller coasters, and the "four top" parks all receiving the same exact ride). -
I found it a little odd too. Can he get in trouble for talking to the media about a proxy statement like this, without going through a proxy statement filed with the SEC? Is he a loose cannon right now just venting that someone wants to strip him of his "country club" environment that he has worked so hard to build?

The real issue will be what will Kinzel`s impact on the company be if he is left in control for another year? Will he be a lame duck that will hurt the company going forward, or will paying his severance, while expensive, actually be in the best interests of the company? Cedar Fair`s per cap spending has been down for several quarters in a row now. It doesn`t take a rocket scientist to figure out that they are charging way too much for F&B and that the quality simply isn`t there to justify the premium food prices. Especially given the economy, Cedar Fair hasn`t seemed to pick up on the value proposition. They have a large season pass fan base (particularly at the former Paramount Parks), but do not even offer these patrons discounts on food. If they were to offer discounts on food items to said pass holders, they may very well end up buying food in the park, as opposed to camping out in the parking lot with packed sandwiches. Keeping paying customers inside the park and spending money can only benefit the per caps spending, and in turn the bottom line. Yes, the profit margins may take a hit, but margins alone do not make a successful business. Not to mention, the good old Econ 101 study of supply and demand and profit maximization will tell you that the way to maximize profits is not to charge extremely high prices. But I digress. All I can say, is hold onto your seats, this could get very interesting in the coming weeks and months!

And Millenium Force has three trains but no mid course brake. But they also have two stations, one for exiting and one for loading. Only one train can be traversing the course at any time.

Small Park Marketing: Bright Ideas
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
No, Coney does not release attendance figures. In part it is hard to guage attendance figures. Why? While Sunlite Pool is a gated attraction (there is a west and east pool gate), the park grounds are not gated. While one must pay for parking, there is absolutely no charge to walk around the park grounds at Coney. As such, there is no realy way to accurately guage the number of people that visit Coney. Based on what I`ve seen, 2010 was a better year than 2009 for Coney. Although 2009 was a very soft year for Coney. -
Yes it was. CarnEvil is situated in the theater room. In fact, the path that you exit on from Carnevil, used to be the path that you would take to enter the theater (and wait before they opened the doors to the theater). I saw a few shows in there in the first few seasons it was opened.

I don`t think that is an entirely accurate statement. If they did it in one season, it would be expensive, but not as expensive as a 20+ million ride. If they did it in phases, it wouldn`t be that bad. Not to mention, they at least need to fix the high traffic driving lanes where there are big pot holes. If they do nothing, eventually the paved parking lot will turn into a gravel lot. How do I know? Gate 1 at Coney (the main picnic grove parking lot has a gravel lot that used to be a paved lot. If you ever venture out into the gravel lot, you will see small patches of pavement that are still in tact. They simply decided not to repave or maintain that area of lot, and it eventually deteriorated to the point where its back to a gravel lot. Which is fine, considering that parking lot only gets used on the really busy weekends when there are lots of picnics, or for sold out concerts. And of course July 3rd.
