Now that was bad! I am a die hard Skyline fan, and can probably count the number of times I`ve been to Gold Star on my hands! Skyline on the other hand, I`ve likely been there ten times in the last two months! Although, I have not eaten at Skyline at KI this season. I do know that even at Skyline locations, there are pricing differences. There are two Skylines near me, one is company owned the other franchisee owned. The company owned one has 3-ways for $4.99. The franchise location has them for $5.49!

Excellent trip report, Dave. I hope to one day make it out to Valleyfair. I look forward to seeing part two!

And of course, one can buy a Platinum Pass at Cedar Point for 2011 right now, but Kings Island (according to their website) is not currently offering Platinum Passes for 2011 yet.

And if General Assembly approval is granted in 2011, will it allow enough time for the park to open in 2011?

This Sunday, September 12 is the final day of operation for both Sunlite Pool and Coney`s Classic Rides in the 2010 season. After Sunday, the pool will be closed until Memorial Day weekend 2010. The rides will be open three more weekends after this weekend for the Fall-O-Ween Festival the last weekend in September, and the first two in October. So Sunday is the last day for 2010 season pass holders to use their passes (passes are valid for discounted admission to Fall-O-Ween Festival). Also note that both the rides and pool are closed to the public on Saturday, September 11th for a private company outing. Hours on Sunday are 10-6 for Sunlite Pool and 11-6 for the rides. Special pricing is in place for this bonus day, Sunlite Pool admission is $7.95, Rides are $7.95 (savings of $4 off regular admission) and a Pool and Rides ticket costs $13.95 a savings of $8 off regular admission! And in case you haven`t heard, Dora the Explorer and Spongebob Squarepants are having a lunch at Coney on the first weekend of the Fall-O-Ween Festival. Kind of ironic that these two Nickelodeon characters are visiting the amusement park that eventually led to the creation of the park that they called home for several years until this year!

Very true. I have yet to make it to CP this year but will make it up there next weekend.

So they are attributing the drop in per caps to an increase in visits from pass holders? The abnormally high food prices have nothing to do with the drop at all, right? When will they learn to give pass holders a discount on food so that instead of drawing per caps down, they can be enticed to spend more money and pull per caps up?

The cost of platinum will likely set you back an additional $80 over a KI pass. But it includes parking as well as admission. Visit Cedar Point twice and you should come out ahead of paying full gate price two times. Of course discounts typically can be had, so it's hard to say if Platinum will save you that much money if you only intend to visit Cedar Point twice.

Things Get...Interesting...At Flags
CoastersRZ replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I always find it funny that they always say "pursue other opportunities" as a nice way to say they were let go. -
Yes, I have been to P&G day at Kings Island every year since 1991 save for 2008, when I was down at Walt Disney World. This year, I will likely be at Cedar Point on Friday and Saturday and at Kings Island for P&G day on Sunday. Just as a little tidbit, P&G has been doing a company picnic at a Cincinnati amusement park all the way back to 1929 when 10,000 employees and their families visited Coney Island!

I agree. An excellent post by one of the cherished long time members of this site. I myself have not been on KIC as much this summer as I have in the past, because of my full time job, AND working at Coney Island on the weekends. (In fact, I`ve had only one day off since May 23rd! and that day off was July 5th. For those keeping track, that is 107 days of work with one day off. I`m in a the home stretch right now that could end up seeing me work 74 days in a row, although i may cut it short to 73 days if I head up to Cedar Point next Friday!) Somehow, I still have managed to visit Kings Island many many times throughout the season, and even visited Holiday World and Carowinds this year!

PLATINUM PASS PRICING UP AT CAROWINDS
CoastersRZ replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I believe that was directed towards Knott`s Halloween event which I believe has always been an upcharge event. For the longest time, Scarowinds was an upcharge too, and only recently became included with season passes. -
I know yesterday, they already had the urgent Scare sign up out front, and cones blocking off the exit.

And the start of construction can be a somewhat fluid term. If they mean actually pouring concrete, then that may indeed not begin until after the park closes. But they may begin moving dirt in preparation for the foundations before the end of the season. I`m sure that if they are clearing trees or doing any regrading work, that they may in fact start that prior to the final operating days. Back when they were building Invertigo at the end of the 1998 season, they were in fact moving some dirt prior to the close of the 1998 season.

1990 Dorney Park Commercial
CoastersRZ replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
And that is what amusement parks should be about. I remember what one of my managers told me at Coney my very first year working there (all the way back in 2002). It was a long busy day, and he stopped by our ride to check on us. He said "Look at all those kids that have big smiles on their faces that will make memories today to last a lifetime." -
personal messaging problem
CoastersRZ replied to Cormaster's topic in KICentral Footnotes & Small News
That is a question that should be directed towards the one and only IT guy on this site, Dane. Last I heard, he was aware of the problem. He did not tell me when that feature would be restored to normal operating condition. -
For anyone interested in crowds at Coney, Sunday is usually the day to go. The day to avoid is Labor day, as that is the day of the AFL-CIO picnic. Fortunately, President Obama will not be visiting this year. That presented some logistical issues last year.

personal messaging problem
CoastersRZ replied to Cormaster's topic in KICentral Footnotes & Small News
It appears that the Personal Message feature is still down. I have not heard anything from Dane since the initial text I sent him, alerting him that the PM feature was down on Friday. -
I too was given a new Platinum Pass for 2010 that worked fine the first day at Carowinds, and did not work the second day at Carowinds (on opening weekend at Carowinds). I did read I believe on Carowinds website that if you are renewing to the same type of pass for 2011, that you will be able to renew online and use your same card again. Although, that is assuming their systems don`t have any issues, like they did at the beginning of this season.

No Shows But Plenty 'O Rides TR 08.27.10
CoastersRZ replied to Kirk Sheppard's topic in Trip Reports
Glad to hear you had a fun time at the park, even though there were no live show offerings. I was at the park for two hours yesterday, and had a lot of fun, due to the light crowds. Unfortunately, due to my work schedule at Coney (I`m the only rides manager available to work tomorrow from 10 to around 6), I may only get one more visit to KI before Haunt begins. But I do hope to visit Cedar Point the weekend before Haunt begins. -

Dane is aware of the issue. I do not know how long it will take before the PMs are restored. To quote the text I just received from him "Worst timing ever." -
I too made a quick visit to the park this evening after work. I arrived shortly before six. And in two hours, I rode Diamondback six times, with one trip on Beast, Vortex, Backlot Stunt Coaster, Racer, Flight of Fear, Adventure Express and Drop Tower. Not bad for just over two hours in the park. Oddly enough, I did not see one piece of promotional material advertising WindSeeker!

Why is everyone getting so hung up on the same type of ride argument? Do people not realize that almost every amusement park out there has an Eli Bridge Scrambler? Ie, Coney Island has one, Stricker`s has one, and Kings Island has one. Even Cedar Point has one as well. Scramblers have been around for decades. Do people find these rides boring? Some might, but they are still great family rides. They still draw lines and have their fans.
