KI said the ride will open on April 30th (according to this article on Cincinnati.com: http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20100824/NEWS01/308240026/Kings-Island-unveils-new-ride). So does that mean that KI will open later than normal next season, or that the ride will not open immediately with the park? Either way, the article states that KI`s will be the first of the four WindSeekers to open.

I think the ride is a great addition to the park. Especially since that area of Coney Mall was often barren of attractions and foot traffic. I too, believe the ride will be located either on the old Flight Commander spot or on the piece of land vacated by the former laser tag/Cinema 180 building. Hopefully, some of the brick pavers that have found their way into Rivertown and Planet Snoopy can once again take up residence in part of Coney Mall next year as well. Why is everyone complaining about the ride? Yes, it maybe a tall observation tower, but unlike the Eiffel Tower, you are only secured with a lap bar and are spinning around the tower at speeds of up to 30mph. And with a height of 301' it will be a big thrill for people. It will be a little more exciting than the Eiffel Tower, but not quite as scary as Drop Tower. How many people say that the Eiffel Tower is boring? I would venture to say that those same people would protest its removal. I personally can`t wait to ride this ride. And at least its not like Cedar Point, which is placing the ride a mere stone`s throw away from their existing observation tower, and removing another ride to make room for the addition. By all accounts, Kings Island`s ride is going in a plot of land that does not have a ride currently (save for maybe an upcharge attraction), which means, as Mr. Butcher pointed out, that overall park capacity will increase at KI.

The Eurobobbles were only temporarily gone this year. They were removed so that a shade structure could be built over the pool. My bet is that the new ride will likely go in that area of Coney Mall. I guess we will find out here in less than an hour.

I`m glad to hear that this new ride will be located in Coney Mall. Other than Firehawk, Backlot and Flight of Fear, the area hasn`t really seen any major rides installed. There are certainly areas of Coney Mall that could use some sprucing up. Tlvtr, not everyone goes to parks for roller coasters. Coney Island is a prime example of that. The Python is not the greatest coaster in the world. Yet people still visit Coney. And you know what? Most of the rides may not be thrill rides according to your definition. But people ride them, and often times, when they get off the ride, they will ride it again, and again and again. Not all park visitors are there to ride roller coasters. The park`s demographic is much larger than just coaster fans.

That is Prater Tower at Wiener Prater in Vienna, Austria. The tower stands an incredible 385 feet high!
-
Keep in mind that the clearing behind Son of Beast has some issues. It is very far removed from a midway, and thus is not likely going to be the prime location of a new ride. All the details of the new attraction will be gleaned in less than a day!
-
Remember, not everything is about roller coasters. It is important to have flat rides and family rides that cater to families as well. Depending on the height of this ride and the height requirement, this may not exactly be a family ride like the Flying Eagles were. But it is still nice to see Kings Island installing a flat ride. Keep in mind, that the last true flat ride the park added was Delirium in 2003.

And I do believe that Mr. Al Weber actually started working at Cincinnati`s own Coney Island before Kings Island was opened.

As I said earlier, I would highly doubt that both KI and Cedar Point are going to receive the same new ride for next year. It just wouldn`t make much sense since part of their markets overlap. It would make sense if Knott`s, KI and Canada`s Wonderland got copies of the same new ride and Cedar Point got something different. I guess we will find out for sure in a little over 24 hours.
-
But by that logic, could said ride be replacing what was originally planned for KI? At any rate, its nice to see that KI will be receiving a new attraction. I just hope that it does not come at the loss of an existing classic ride. I`d hate to see another case of the Flying Eagles...

More news from Cincinnati.com here: http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20100823/NEWS01/308230049/Kings-Island-to-unveil-tallest-ride The article includes a quote from Mr. Don Helbig stating: "The only thing I can tell you is that it will stand taller than Diamondback,” Granted, Diamondback is not the tallest ride in the park (The Eiffel Tower and Drop Tower hold those records). So will this new ride be taller than those two attractions? This pretty much confirms the type of ride though! And all this news definitely came out of nowhere today!

I too was surprised to read this on Cincinnati.com. Very brief notice, and not much build up like Cedar Point has been doing. I highly doubt that Cedar Point and Kings Island will be getting similar types of rides for next season. I can see, however, Knott`s, Kings Island and Canada`s Wonderland getting the same style/type of ride. The other question will be where will this new ride be located at? I could see it going in at the far end of Coney Mall, near where the EuroBobble is, since that area of the park has not received any new attractions in quite some time and could use some upgrades. I could also see an addition being made to X Base (with hopefully some restrooms), if the new attraction is a flat ride and has a lower height requirement than 54" (what both Flight of Fear and Firehawk have).

I think it is a forgone conclusion that KI will offer season passes for 2011. A recent blog post by Mr. Helbig on the official blog page of KI even confirms that 2011 passes will go on sale in September. KI Insider Blog

So I take it you can only get Sausage if you get a pizza with pepperoni? LaRosa`s Pizza is good, but Dewey`s Pizza is also really good. (The first location of this chain was located in the Cincinnati neighborhood of Oakley).
-
I believe that the LaRosa`s pepperoni pizza at Coney is served with the pepperoni under the cheese, but don`t hold me to that. I normally don`t get pepperoni pizza, and opt for just plain cheese. I should know as Coney served up some free LaRosa`s pizza and soft drinks at the employee corn hole tournament this past Monday evening. But as I mentioned before, I got some slices of cheese and not pepperoni. A little trivia about Coney`s LaRosa`s locations. There are two LaRosa`s locations at Coney. One on the dry side across from Dodgems and golf, and one over at Sunlite Pool. All the pizzas are actually baked at the location on the dry side of the park (which is also the only food location at Coney that has an air conditioned eating area, albeit it a very small one), and then carted over to the second location at the pool. I did not know that KI had begun serving sausage pizza. I know that they had pictures it on the new video menu boards, but thought that it was a goof, since I had never personally seen a sausage pizza at KI.

Whenever I see the word "Hoedown" in regards to this thread, I immediately think of the song "Hoedown Throwdown" by Miley Cyrus. Why you might ask? Because that is the closing song in the Coney live show "Farmland." A show that I hear way too much of at Coney while working the Ferris Wheel. I`ve used this analogy before, but Kings Island`s lives shows are to Dollywood`s live shows as Coney`s live shows are to Kings Island`s live shows! Often times this year we`ve had guests ask us (in a serious tone) if the live shows at Coney were actually bad karaoke!

Scrambler at IB down for season
CoastersRZ replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Many years back, Round Up at Coney was out of commission for about a month (I think it was 2006 maybe), because it had a similar issue. The ride was completely disassembled so that they could replace the part. Typically, Scramblers are a very reliable ride (I know the Scrambler at Coney rarely has any downtime, if ever. You just have to be careful of the skunks that like to take up residence in and around the Scrambler at Coney! -
How is that really a change from what the park has done in the past? Haunt has always been Friday-Saturday (for the most part), and the Howl-O-Fest Saturday and Sunday. (And yes, it appears that the Haunt nights slated for Sundays and Thursdays this year have been canned. The park didn`t have much luck opening for Haunt on a few Thursdays last October, thanks to a very cold and wet October.)

Timberliners Delayed
CoastersRZ replied to DaveStroem's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
According to the post on Holiday World`s Facebook page, they hope to be able to give an update on the status of the Timberliners soon, possibly even tomorrow. -
Yep. That was a casualty of the CBS ownership days. And the correct terminology was Paramount Parks Design and Entertainment (PPDE).

Willow Grove: A Short Retrospective
CoastersRZ replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The second slide touts that the park was once dubbed "America`s Finest Amusement Park." A slogan that Coney Island here in Cincinnati also used! -
Any more pictures to post Paul? Its been more than a month now since you lasted posted photos.

I believe that it was changed this year, to accommodate lights for Snoopy`s Starlight Spectacular. -

Agreed. It is little things like that which make a big difference in the overall atmosphere of the park. It is often these little things that seem trivial, but when added together, have a big impact on the guest experience.
