Just wondering...where did most of Coney's rides come from?
CoastersRZ replied to RecaraceR's topic in Coney Island Central
And why didn`t you say hi to me? I likely was working the day you were there at either the Ferris Wheel or Rock O Planes. -
Care to elaborate on what you are mad about? I think the new experience will be much better than the former Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle.

Having ridden Boo Blasters on Boo Hill at Carowinds this past weekend, I`m hoping that Kings Island`s version gets a special effect that was added to the Carowinds version. I won`t reveal what it was as to leave it as a surprise, but it was a really cool effect. An effect that I was not expecting to see, and it took me off guard.

I also was questioning the start date when I saw the April 17th date announced in their email they sent out today. Which is different than the previously mentioned April 30th date.

Construction Underway on Kings Island Drive
CoastersRZ replied to Thane Of Price Hill's topic in Kings Island
I actually think that this project was supposed to be completed last fall, but was delayed. Noe if only the Kings Island parking lot leading up to Kings Island Drive could also be resurfaced! It has turned into a hodge podge of pot holes and patches to cover said pot holes. Leaving the parking lot in recent years through the south exit has turned into a game of dodging pot holes, not unlike dodging cars in the Dodgems. -
I wish I was feeling better. I`m sick of being sick. Its no fun. Especially when I had to stay almost an hour late at work today. Guess I have to look on the bright side, at least I am working in an architecture office right now and made more money by staying late today, even if I felt like crap. But I so wanted to leave the office early and take a nap. Now, I`m off to bed to get some rest so I can hopefully kick this stupid cold and cough.

I`m the one that called him out on his blue B&M blunder. The thing that is interesting is the first article states that the accident was caused by "oil leakage." Seems a little odd to me that they a) already are speculating on the cause of the accident, and that oil leakage is the actual cause of the accident. Unless of course the oil leakage is referring to a failed brake system/hydraulic fluid leaking. Information about this accident seems to be scarce, which is why the image of Millenium Force was likely used in that first article as it likely was a file image for that news organization.

Given the right price point, that park could be successful. Look how well Myrtle Beach Pavilion was before its owners decided to try and redevelop the property. And Family Kingdom to the south has been in business for decades. Part of the problem is that the original price point was simply too high, not to mention they didn`t market the park enough. Another thing is that since they are located in a beach town where the main tourist draw that attracts visitors, they need to cater to people`s evening plans when they are not entertained by the beach. Hopefully, the park can land some investors and be able to operate. Especially if the economy starts to recover soon. It will be interesting to see what the ultimate fate of this park is.

And for the record, I still am not feeling all that well. I have a wicked cough, which is better than the headache and sore throat that I had on Saturday.
-
Yes. My pass came up with a Red X on Sunday when they tried to scan it in. That is when the admissions associate directed me over to the admissions service center. They then asked for my driver`s license since my pass wasn`t scanning for whatever reason. Its just odd that it worked Saturday and NOT on Sunday. I would have thought it wouldn`t have worked on Saturday if it wasn`t going to work. But I had no problems on Saturday. Go figure. I know why they no longer do it (to save on printing costs), but it still seems like at least printing names and years on passes would be beneficial for if the computer systems do in fact crash one day. I can see no printing pictures on the passes, but names can be helpful. Especially since KI in the past has had people sign the backs of their passes with pens (and not permanent markers). I`ve had the pen wear off of my pass before simply by taking it in and out of my wallet. (When I renewed my Platinum Pass last year and they gave me a "new" 2010 pass (its the old style Platinum Pass), I wrote 10 on the back in permanent marker so I would know the difference between my 09 and 10 pass.)

As I`ve said on here before, Afterburn is one of my favorite roller coasters. It is definitely my favorite inverted coaster. Granted I have only been on a limited set of B&M inverts (Raptor, Afterburn, and Dueling Dragons), but the pacing of the ride is simply excellent. And the use of tunnels/ravines on the ride make it a thrilling ride as well. That is one thing that I feel Diamondback is hands down better at than Intimidator. Diamondback fits into the land and the site much better than Intimidator. Intimidator skirts the parking lot the entire way, while Diamondback is over the midway and through the woods. They are both great rides, but given a choice between the two, I`d take Diamondback. Although, the turnaround element on Intimidator is much better than Diamondbacks. However, as others have said, Intimidator seems to lack the air time that Diamondback has.

I can imagine so. There have been days when the computer in the rides ticket booth at Coney has had issues. Although I`ve heard that Coney is upgrading their computer systems this year, so hopefully all the bugs get worked out before Coney opens. Which, by the way, Coney opens for the season in 61 days.
-
Yeah. I can see that being a disaster. I can`t even imagine the entire system not working. That would be a nightmare if you were visiting the park that day! While the situation was a slight inconvenience, it was really no big deal, and the employees were very nice about it. Sometimes things like that happen with technology. It was opening weekend after all, so there are bound to be some bugs that need to be worked out.
-
Well, I was directed to the admissions services booth, which fortunately had a window inside the metal detectors, as well as outside the detectors. The lady asked for my drivers license and scanned my pass again. She then had to wait for her supervisor. The supervisor then scanned my pass again to see that it said it was not valid. So they wrote down my pass number, and printed me a "Carowinds Platinum Walk In" receipt that was successfully scanned at the gate. All told, it took about ten minutes to get the pass situation straightened out. Both the worker at the admission gate and the admissions services booth were very courteous and apologized to me about the situation, and the fact that it took ten minutes to be resolved. (The pass also did not scan at the parking tolls, but fortunately there was a nice supervisor there, and that situation was resolved without paying the parking price). Hopefully this was just a glitch at Carowinds yesterday, and is not indicative of a problem with my pass. I guess we`ll see when I visit Kings Island in a couple of weeks!

And besides, they are not doing the ERT for what, four days that the park is open to the public? It is not that big of a deal. Heck, I remember a day when there were no gold passes or Platinum Passes. And the only way one could get ERT was at enthusiast events. And at one point in time, there really was only one group that held events at parks with ERT. Most pass holders at KI are very fortunate that they can get early rides in on certain attractions. The park does not HAVE to offer that perk.

I am a HUGE fan of Afterburn! I was bummed that the ride was closed on my last visit to Carowinds last year. The ride has excellent pacing, and is full of non-stop thrills from the moment it starts to the moment it ends. There were some issues with Platinum passes, however. My Platinum pass worked fine on Saturday, but it wouldn`t scan on Sunday. There were apparently others` passes who had worked on Saturday and not on Sunday.

All the kids that I saw at Carowinds over the weekend, were happy to see Snoopy and friends. Like I`ve said before, it does not really matter who the character is and how much they`ve been featured in pop culture on television in the recent years. On the subject of Boo Blasters on Boo Hill, I don`t personally mind the nameeither. And having ridden the ride a couple of times at Carowinds, I hope that the Kings Island dark ride receives some of the special effects that the Carowinds one got. There are a couple of nice surprises in that ride!
-
And Boo Blasters on Boo Hill is a nice ride. I`m excited to see what KI`s new dark ride experience is like. There was one really cool effect on Carowinds ride that I hope makes it into KI`s ride. (And yes, I had ridden Carowinds Scooby Doo ride prior to this year, so I was able to make a fair comparison between before and after. Is it opening weekend for KI yet? Now, I`m off to bed, as I`ve been under the weather all weekend, while trying to enjoy Carowinds.
-
Patience, young grass hopper. Things will be revealed in due time. Besides wouldn't you rather be surprised by the new experience than let down from over hype of the experience? Like I said in another thread, if KI's new dark ride experience has some of the same new effects as CarowindsBoo Blasters on Boo Hill I will be happy

Well, Planet Snoopy at Carowinds had pre- recorded spiels. Also, the operators on Woodstock's Gliders (Flying Eagles) were also clalling out what tub was flying the highest. Rode Boo Blasters. One feature was really impressive. Hopefully ki gets the same feature. Posted from my iPod touch at a hotel near Carowinds.

A local developer is opening up a 55,000 square foot entertainment facility which will feature an indoor go kart track and lazer tag. The new facility is located in thr former Liberty Township Kroger building. The facility will also be the first location that sells Cincinnati`s Aglamesis Bros.’ ice cream outside of their parlors. John Manby to be on Undercover Boss
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I was going to bump this thread, but it looks like I was beat by more than twelve hours! I actually saw a preview for this on TV tonight. It is some what odd, that Joel Manby did not climb the ranks of the corporate amusement park ladder, and has never worked the front lines. -
Well now, talk about coincidence! I just happened to think of that when typing up the post, and couldn`t recall hearing about any resolution to that matter. Just for those of you who are curious (which probably equates to no one) there are 43,560 square feet in an acre. Just a random fact that I know from the world of Architecture!
