Yep, I just posted a link to this article in the other thread. Here it is, with a couple pictures as well. Seriousely, what is this group trying to protect? Do they not think that the state will make sure the rides are safe? I know that from a business stand point, Kings Island does all they can to keep the rides safe. Afterall, an accident like they had on Son of Beast is not good public relations. The website is a joke (they don`t mention Adventure Express as being a roller coaster at Kings Island). The "president" who proclaims to be such an expert on amusement safety has never worked in a park, or had the background education to be considered an expert. All the "reported" incidents on the site are contributed, but cannot be backed up with credible evidence. Granted, some of them may in fact be true, but I have a feeling that some of them are unfounded. But injuries do happen at amusement parks. I`m not denying that. Even at Coney, there have been some injuries on rides, but most of the times they are not directly related to the ride themselves. (Ie someone trips and scrapes there knee, or pinches their finger when they get on the ride). Another website, that is similar in thought, but much different in execution is Coasterquest by Walt Reiss. The difference between Walt`s site and the ASO, is that just by visiting Walt`s site, you can see that he knows the industry and safety. He also isn`t trying to criticise the parks. BTW, I highly reccommend visiting his site as it is a very informative site, and details some of the off season maintenance that coaster trains go through.

Well, believe it or not, WCPO has picked up on this story now. They have a story on their website mentioning Jason Herrera, the president of the Amusement Safety Organization. The article also interviews Ed Dailey, a member of the Ohio Department of Agriculture- Rides Safety Division (the people that inspect ALL amusement park rides and go kart tracks in the state of Ohio.) He says that "[t]hey put safety first and I regard them as a very responsible park." Read the entire article here.

Yeah, I`d imaging that not a lot of people will be there tonight, myself included. I originally had planned to go today, but changed my plans. I can take cold and I can take rain, but when you add the two together, not good. Besides, with it raining as hard as it is, some of those outdoor rides, if open, will not be fun but painful! I`m actually surprised they haven`t cancelled everything tonight. I`m sure they are not going to make a profit tonight by the time they get done paying all the employees.

Yes. It will be interesting. There will be many new things at the park, most likely new uniforms to new ways of doing things. I`m sure the full time staff at the park will be busy in the offseason beginning to implement some of these changes.

What New Attraction Can We Expect From Cedar Fair
CoastersRZ replied to RailRider's topic in Coming Attractions
Well, if recent trends at Cedar Fair hold true, it will only be a matter of time before we get that next big roller coaster like a B&M or Intamin creation. It will certainly be an interesting couple of years in the future. Come 2010, how will the park be different? Yes, Paramount was a little gunshy after the disaster that has become Son of Beast. Even this year, six years after the ride opened, they are dealing with headaches from this ride. I`m sure that they wish they would have gotten a wooden coaster that has received good reviews like The Legend or a steel coaster like Millenium Force, both of which opened the same year. While Italian Job is a fun family ride, it is by no means, a high thrill ride like rides like Face Off, Drop Zone, or Flight of Fear. I`ve heard that they still had plans for a thrilling coaster at KI, but that it was going to be a while before it appeared in the park. The niche that PKI has carved for itself catering to the family market has been successful. However, with the success they`ve had with FearFest, you would have thought that they would have realized that teens and the adult market can still bring in money to justify spending money for a major roller coaster. -
Well, it will be interesting to see what happens. There will definantely be changes of some sort next year at Kings Isand. At this point in time we just don`t know eactly what those changes will be. Another thing that could affect the way things are done at the park is if the minimum wage is increased. I know Coney is going to be completely revamping their pay structure for 2007, regardless of the passage of the minimum wage proposal. Seasonal amusement parks are always going to have a high turn over rate. Burn out is often an issue as these parks are often only open for full season about three months a year. As a result, most of the hours these employees will work will be in Summer and they will often work long hard hours. I speak from experience, having worked many ten to eleven hour days at Coney Island. Some people get in it and find out it isn`t for them. Others love it (I wouldn`t have worked at Coney for five years with their pay if I didn`t love what I was doing). Why PKI may see more of an emphasis on International workers next year, it won`t be the first time. PKI has brought in internationals before, just never to the scale that Cedar Point has. Kings Island in the summer months has a larger pool of available help when compared to Cedar Point. The one thing that Cedar Point has is housing available for their Internationals. When Kings Island had internationals working there, they dormed in dorms down at UC and had to make the long trek up to the park via Metro bus, not exactly the most convenient for their International workers.

And they only have the chain in the chain track and moving the first couple weekends the park is open in April. After that, the threat of the train stalling on the antirollbacks is reduced so they will move the chain off to the side of the antirollbacks, to reduce wear on the chain dogs of the train.

Dane, you are probably aware of this already. But the main page of the site is (at the time of me writing this) down with a fatal MySQL error message. The forums are still up, but without the normal skin. Instead, it has just the standard Invision skin. Like I said, you are probably working on something/already aware of the problem.

Photoshop alert! Seriousely, I hope they don`t mutilate TR:TR more than lack of upkeep in theming has already mutilated the experience. But a Disaster Transport them for TR:TR? I`m sure they have some people that can come up with a better replacement theme if they do want to retheme it from TR:TR than Disaster Transport.

That may be what weather.com says, but the local news stations. As Jasper081691 said, WCPO is calling for 51 on Sunday. It will likely be a little more crowded than when I visited on this past Sunday and was able to ride Flight of Fear 15 times, but I don`t think it will be insanely packed. But until Sunday arrives and the park is open, no one will for sure know how crowded it will be.

Well, another example of a post that really in no way relates to what the thread is about. I`m assuming that you are referring about what date they will open for the 2007 season on. I`ve heard a date tossed around, but it isn`t official yet, so I will not discuss the date I heard. But it is not much different than normal opening days that Kings Island has had.

And I think someone should think twice about making nonsense posts like that. Coming from the person that made three posts in a row in another thread, you should probably check the terms of service 2oo64ever.

Friday is quesitionable. I hope the weather forecasters change their forecast and that the rain ends early Friday evening. Saturday morning they are just calling for a few left over showers, so most of Saturday should be fine. Sunday`s high, as of right now, is not supposed to be in the high fifties, but instead top out right around 50. The only night they might close early (if they even open at all) is Friday night, due to the rain. The park was open all day on Sunday (the normally scheduled hours), even though employees outnumbered guests in the park for a good portion of the day. They never closed early. Cooler weather means, hopefully, lighter crowds. I know in the past, closing weekends have been rather busy. But that is often a result of them giving out tons of free tickets for that weekend. To my knowledge, they haven`t given out free tickets for this coming weekend.

I just created a new thread that has this article in it. Cedar Fair Entertainment Co.
-
According to an article in the Toledo Blade, Cedar Fair, L.P. will now be known as Cedar Fair Entertainment Company from this point forward. They made the decision because of their large collection of properties that are based on entertainment. The change will be discussed in the November 1st conference call. The legal name of the company will remain Cedar Fair, L.P. Many may remember that when Taft sold its amusement park division in 1984, the company that was formed was the Kings Entertainment Co. (KECO). KECO was around until the parks were purchased by Paramount in 1992. Read the article here.

Next time, before you post make sure to proofread your post. Per the terms of service, all posts should have: Your post is a perfect example of how not to create a post. Besides, what you say is more believable if it appears you know how to compose the English language.

Keep in mind that the lapbars they have on Son of Beast are actually its second set. They removed the original ones which were all steel on the side and replaced them in 2003 with new bars that had flat steel with some hard padding on the sides.
-
Cedar Fair announced today in a release that they will maintain the quarterly cash distribution at $.47 per limited partner unit, or the equivalent of $1.88 per year. Also of note, is that the press release refers to Cedar Fair not as Cedar Fair L.P., but as Cedar Fair Entertainment Company. They then break the parks down into the three regions, North, South and Western. Read the release on Cedar Fair`s website here. The third quarter earnings conference call will occur on November 1st at 11am.

Uh, I believe what he was refering to is the fact that next year, that area of the park might look a little different, and be named something else.
-
It shut down right after I took a spin on it. Maintenance came out, they test ran it once, and it was back up within ten minutes, nothing major.
-
Well, there is ample land behind Son of Beast and Top Gun. The one issue is that the park`s greenhouse is located back there. They would either have to build around it or relocate the greenhouse facility elsewhere. I can see Cedar Fair building a new campground and/or cabins as a way to bring in additional revenue.
-
Actually, I don`t believe they do. Here`s why. CBS received a 16% stake in the Great Wolf Lodge for supplying the approximate $6 million in land that the resort sits on. When Cedar Fair bought Paramount Parks from CBS, they did not buy the 16% stake in the Great Wolf lodge (essentially buying the land it sits on). So therefore, that land is technically owned by Mason Family Resorts, LLC. That is the official name of the company that CBS gave the land to for the Great Wolf Lodge.
-
That is completely false! On Italian Job, they can safely park all three trains by the stations. One in load, one in unload and one on the ready brakes by the transfer track. Unless they were taking a long time unloading from the unload station, a train should not get stuck up top.
-
Well, if it is a new sign, one would have to wonder if plans are still in motion for a campground, even under Cedar Fair. If it weren`t still a possibility I doubt that they would have put in a new sign, but you never know since this property is technically no longer associated with the park as CBS still has its 16% stake in it.
