Well there is the basketball game on the side by The Racer. Then there is the CyberSez virtual reality game, which is really fun to watch the people playing that game, because they look so silly screaming, stomping and wave their hands in midair. It would have been nice had they replaced Skylab with another flatride, although the same can be argued for the old Flight Commander location.

BuddaH1994, I know there are several areas around The Vortex with remnants of The Bat. They didn`t remove the footers, they just cut the supports off, and hence why there are some areas of rusted out support left. However, I doubt that the park still has any Bat track lying around in the park somewhere still.

Kings Dominion, at least when I visited KD back in 2000, had signs showing pictures with a brief description of what rides used to occupy various plots of land.

Bavarian Beetle was sent to Camden park, where is was just recently scrapped. Yes, Cedar Point does have some what of a museum, but their history is also a lot longer than KI`s. I`m sure PKI does have a lot of artifacts to past rides. There used to be a wheel carriage leftover from The Bat visble from Vortex`s platform until a couple years ago. The only part of The Bat that was reused on The Vortex were some of the access stairs for the ride.

Witht the exeception of King Cobra, I don`t think the park has any pieces of track remaining from The Bavarian Beetle, The Bat or the Screamin Deamon. Yes, I think that idea would be cool, but I really do not see the park doing anythin like that anytime soon.

Lets not forget that both Wings and Festhause also offer AIR CONDITIONED spots to eat food which is really nice in the hot Cincinnati heat and humidty!

While most people have been concerned with IJST, I have found out that Cincinnati`s Coney Island is also adding a new attraction this season. Coney is adding the Scream Machine, a 50 foot tall tower, in which riders are lifted up slowly and then dropped. The ride will be located in Moonlite Square, by Moonllite Gardens. Ride Details. That sounds like a wonderful addition to Coney`s ride lineup. Unfortunatly, since I won`t be working there this summer (with cooping in the spring and fall, I will be in class all summer), so I won`t get to run the new ride.
-
Actuall y the joker8388, OTSR stands for Over The Shoulder Restraints, not over the head restraints. Both refer to the same type of restraint though.
-
At Coney, we were strictly forbidden from riding any of the rides during our shift. The obvious exception to that is the slide, where when there is a line up at the top, the only way down is to slide down. (Although a couple times when I opened the Pythoon, the mechanics were finishing up their inspections and told us to hop in and take a spin!) But if a ride broke down and you were stuck on it for twenty minutes, it would be hard to get back to your work location to resume working at your scheduled time.

I`ll be there on Saturday morning to get my souvenir cup (that is a good deal). It should be noted that Friday evening is for the winners of radio station give aways, and not season passes.
-
Yeah, it was better when you could see one page with all of the perks. Instead of just a general discription. Also, in the season pass mailer, it says to find out all the details about perks by logging onto www.pki.com/seasonpass. But when you do that, it takes you to a non existant portion of the site. Maybe they will give away gold pass booklets again this year detailing all the perks.
-
I just wish like last year, that there would be one page on their site that spells out all the perks, their date and times, like there has been in years past.
-
Yeah, the reason why I asked, was because I have yet to recieve the mailer, and it does not mention the refills for $.99 on the flash movie on PKI.com. I believe you, but I woould like to see it for myself. That is one awesome perk though!

Yes, I never understood quite why The Racer and Beast were different, other than The Beast having a lot more strong lateral forces. The thing I don`t get is if the rides (like The Beastie) have operated safely for years with the current height restriction then why change it? Safety comes first, afterall, the theme park industry prides itself on its safety record, and parks usually self police themselves to prevent an injury that would ruin their reputation as a safe park.
-
Why change the height on The Racer? If you remember, Adventure Express and Racer used to have a height requirement of 42" before they bumped it up to 44" around 2000 or so. I`m sure the changes are results of their insurance company/lawyers to try and prevent lawsuits. Even at Coney last season, we had a change on our Ferris Wheel. It used to be under 48" and the rider needs an adult. Well, last season they changed it so that under 36" could not ride and between 36"-48"needed an adult. Needless to say we got a lot of complaints for that change. Although that change, I believe, was instituted by the state of Ohio, and not Coney.

I see the part on the PKI site about the free souvenir cups, but where does it mention refills for the remainder of the season for only 99 cents? That is one awesome perk, though if PKI does indeed have it!

April 2nd and 3 (not sure on the hours though). Then the last two Friday`s in April the park is also open for gold pass holders (most likely from 5-10pm)
-
PKI has now linked to the passholder perks on their season pass page. They have some of the information online. The only thing that it really details is that Gold Pass holder will get a limited number of tickets each day to bypass the line for Italian Job Stunt Track from June 6-August 6 (The speed lane thing) It essentially sounds like a version of fastpass at Disney.

Ok, thanks for the reply.

PKIC Adds Dozens of IJST Tour Pics!
CoastersRZ replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Yes, I agree that the tunnel and the crates do not blend in well. Also, that whole area that used to be full of trees is now full of metal crates and is exposed with lots of views across the park. It makes the center of the park feel more open. It will be interesting to see how they landscape the ride. I can`t imagine them covering up or hiding too many of the crates by the time the ride opens, but who knows. I definantly do not think that they will hide the helicopter from the midways, unless they plant some tall trees in front of it. However, I think the ride will be an incredibly fun ride. I think the general public will really enjoy the new ride, and I expect that it will have really long lines for years to come. Hopefully the park can maintain the theming and show effects in the coming years, since the ride experience relies on them s heavily. I can`t wait to experiene the finished product in May! -
Wow, that`s four gold pass holder only days in April! That`s nice. What exactly did it detail about the rewards plan?

Last summer Charles Jaques was collectiong pictures and stories of Paramount`s Kings Island at several local libraries. I don`t know when the Kings Island book is expected to come out. His books take some time to write. But when they are done, they are extremly well written and full of tons of informative information! I for one can`t wait to pick up a copy and read his Kings Island book. His Coney Island book was very nice!

The alphabetical listing of information is, IMO, more confusing than when they had the attractions listed by area. Not to mention the fact that they do not have all of the rides and restaurants listed.
-
Well, Preston`s served hamburgers and such, which is what the Happy Days Diner will serve. I haven`t seen any plans, but what Tucker`s needed was more places to sit down and eat, and be in the shade. They had a couple tables on the main Coney midway, but they were only covered by small umbrellas. I definantly think it will make the park look better, like Bubba Gump`s did, and be another example of the Hollywood style the park is going for.

Viacom considering splitting into two Companies
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Kings Island
Well, the Hanna Barbera Rights are left over from when Paramount bought KECO in 1992, and apparantly the rights expire in 2009 (which is one reason why Carowinds removed any evidence of Hanna Barbera this season with their new Nick area.) Rumor is that next year, it will be PKI`s turn to remove everything Hanna Barbera. The exception is the Scooby Rides, which Paramount has a license through Sally, the manufacturer. The article, which was in today`s Enquirer, does not really mention the possible sale of the Parks. It just meniones that the company would divest itself into two seperate companies, with the Cable channels comrpising one company. I would imagine that they have two options, sell Paramount Parks, and the other slow growth assets, or split into two companies with the high growth and slow growth assests in seperate companies. Only time will tell what the fate of Paramount Parks lie. Either way, I believe that they will retain the licenses for all the Viacom properties. It is so ingrained in the parks now, and the advertising it provides for Viacom properties reaches more than millions of people every summer.
