During Winterfest last year there was a funky smell as you walk past AE/Slingshot. A couple of associates said it was a lingering smell. I wasn't sure if it was the pond or sewers or what, but it was there almost every time I visited.

I've had a LOT of non-enthusiast friends ask me about Vortex sinking.

How Far Do You Live From Kings Island (and how do you get there)
whengodsaysgo replied to McSalsa's topic in KI Polls
I live in downtown Dayton, so I hop on 75S and take 63 (Trader's World exit) then 741. It's nice to have some back road in the mix. -
Most counter service fast food establishments have employees that run the register and serve the food. This is not uncommon. We need to keep in mind that a lot of these employees are experiencing their first time dealing with the public and their first experience with having a job. A little patience and kindness will go a long way, I'm sure. I don't expect red carpet treatment at any fast food restaurant, let alone Kings Island. While it is necessary for me to eat at the park from time to time, the food is far from being my primary focus, more just a little blip in my day. Nothing to be too stressed about. I do have some health related and self imposed food restrictions. Lately, especially when getting refills, the employee with punch the buttons and scan my pass - all while waiting on a slow system to process the transaction. That seems to be the root of the issues I've encountered on my past couple visits, though.

I'm with @sixohdieselrage. I'm 45 min away, an hour max if I hit rush hour traffic. Coming from Dayton we've always taken 75 to 63 to 741. Not too shabby.

I voted yes, with the expansion option. Any kind of expansion would be nice to see whether it be a coaster or another area for flats or shows.
-
Fine. We can match at a dead mall during a snowstorm this winter.
-
If you hurry we can all match for Coasterstock!

Not yet, but this sounds like a project I'm into working on. Maybe a little later in the season when some of my excitement has worn off. Never does at KI! Until you get out of the car after driving home... I'm usually a little creaky anyways.

Very nice! You really did your research on this one. Ironically enough, I'll be in the park on the 13th. 35 years anniversary.

It came in handy when I lost my (now found!) pass at the park on Opening Day and the app wouldn't load, though.

This happens to me when I use Tapatalk. Not sure why. @malem?

^I think music adds to the ambiance of the park. I don't think they should do away with it, but volume is something to consider.

I think what's cool about them is people are like, "Wait.... is that ROCKET MAN?!?!?" I so totally dig it. Hard.

I love it! A friend of mine introduced me to this bluegrass rock genre a while back. It's fantastic. Although I must admit the first song I ever heard this style was "Gin and Juice" ala Snoop Dogg by a band called The Gourds on a mix CD a (different) friend made for me over fifteen years ago. I was raised on country and bluegrass, thanks to my grandparents' influence. There is a lot of this stuff available on iTunes/Apple Music or YouTube. Just search "Pickin' On". I fancy the Green Day albums, specifically "Wake Me Up When September Ends" and their version of "Rocket Man." I actually like it equally as well as Elton, if not a smidge better. It makes me happy hearing this in the park!

Now that opening day has passed I’m REALLY looking forward to Coasterstock! It’s just a month away now!

April 14, 2018: VortexBFF's Favorite Opening Day by far!

I have goosebumps!!! This made my day!

This. I love this. This is creative. Imaginative. Can you do this for Rivertown and Coney?
-
You're very, very right. I've seen coaster counts, ride counts, but never mile counts. I'm gonna run walk (briskly) with it.

So, I did some digging and there are two settings (on iPhone) that contribute to having an accurate number. One was to turn on location services, which means the GPS is involved, and the other was to turn on a fitness setting that allows the phone to gather more accurate information. I've decided to go with my original plan, knowing that the number may be more a ballpark, but that it's likely decently accurate.
-
I will have to check next time I ride it. It's an app that iPhone just runs automatically. I discovered it by accident. I'd venture to say that the numbers are fairly accurate, even with my lackluster ability to to estimate distance.

A great benefit of being a Kings Island enthusiast is that you log a lot of miles! I decided use my iPhone Health app to keep track of how many #KIMiles that I log in the 2018 season. The app graphs the distance travelled by time, so this will help me deduct the non-park mileage. Here’s my info from Gold Pass Preview Night and Opening Day! 04/13: 5.6 -.25 = 5.35 park miles 04/14: 10.2 2018 total: 15.55 miles
