  1. I got this from one of them forums that someone here has a link to in their sig, PKI-Central.com The Ohioana Library Association, an organization founded in 1929 to recognize the work of Ohio writers as well as books about Ohio, holds an annual program and reception to honor the year's Hamilton County authors. At the 2002-2003 reception on Sunday, November 16, at 1:30 p.m., at the Main Library downtown, Charles Infosino (Italian Chef) will receive recognition as author of the book about Cincinnati, The Unofficial Guidebook to Paramount's Kings Island. At the program, Charles will be introduced to the audience and will speak about his book and how it came to be written. The program will be held in the Huenefeld Tower Toom on the third floor of the Main Library. The library opens to the public on Sundays at 1:00. Family and friends are welcome. Congratulations ItalianChef! Did anyone here even know about this?
  2. One more: Pointer Sisters - I'm So Excited
  3. We don't override anything. More often than not, its the computer that overrides us.
  4. You don't want another parking story, do you Drew?
  5. Vortex is still a popular ride and I don't know of it having a lot of mechanical problems. I see no reason as to why they would remove it.
  6. One more: Janet Jackson - Escapade
  7. It says on the website that you can upgrade to Gold Pass for $5/pass, you jsut have to go to the park to do it.
  8. I think I head the KISS song "I Wanna Rock and Roll All Night" a couple times.
  9. Some people do tend to break the rules a little bit near the end of the season, especially if they know that they won't be back, because the park can't really do anything about it. Plus, we do get a little ticked off when the park gets crowded. Granted, most of ride ops do the same thing regardless of the line, but things often get a little hectic. Many guests are a lot less willing to listen to us when they've been waiting in line. If you find a kid whose too short to ride - man, thats bad. It also makes our clean-up job a lot harder and longer.
  10. Look at my sig, dude. I work in AZ. I think the soundtracks are the same for Coney and AZ. And on SOB, we have the soundtrack playing right over us - all day long. The Michelle Branch and Avril Lavigne songs are played over Q-TV or Skyline Chili Vision or whatever they call it now, that goes throughout the whole park, not just AZ or Coney.
  11. I'm a little suprised nobody has said anything about the leg room, or lack of it, on SOB. But I think that they had to design the trains in a certain way to keep it from being torn apart from the forces of the ride.
  12. I know they played the Friends theme and "I Believe I Can Fly" from Space Jam.
  13. I have two things to say: 1) This is Cincinnati. In Cincinnati, in the winter, it gets cold and it snows. And even if it is unseasonably warm, it will still get below freezing. 2) I know for a fact that none of the steel coasters would be open during cold weather. There is a cutoff point, I think its around 40-45 degrees. We have needed to wait to open Top Gun a few times in the post-season because of the cold weather. But I think (and I emphasize think) that the woodies (Racer, Beast and SOB) would still be able to run unless there was ice on the track or something. But I could be wrong about that.
  14. The other problem with the parking stickers was that people put them in parts of the windshield we could not see, so they would just blow through the toll booths without stopping and we would end up calling security on them.
  15. To answer the question, yes, you will be waiting in some really long lines. The weather is going to be perfect, all the people who processes a pass get free tickets for that weekend, its a Saturday, and its the last day of the season. We probably won't be done with cleanup by the time the open shift on Sunday shows up!
  16. 1) You are right. It would most definately be a logistical nightmare. 2) This would mean that the park would be open until midnight, and because of child labor laws the park has to follow, that can't happen very often. Even if they could, its tough motivating people to stay at work until 1 AM - which is when everyone would get out due to cleaning and such.
  17. They just aren't running the backward Racer for Fearfest - staffing issue, I guess. And yeah, SOB's line was nothing today until at least 4 - when I left.
  18. I remember the BAFF day at the end of June in 2002. I was supposed to show up for my shift at 3 - I got stuck in a backup on I-71, got there around 4. Then we closed up the entrance because it got too crowded. I was told that it was a record attendance day - close to 70,000 people. I've never seen so many cars. It was kind of scary. The lines must have been huge and I can't even imagine the clean-up job...
  19. Those of you who have Gold Season Passes (and I imagine that's a decent amount of people here), I'm just curious: Other than that special part of the parking lot you get to use or the Bring a Friend Free Days, do you ever use any of the benefits that Gold Pass has? Such as early rides, Double ride Tuesdays, I think they have some picnic thing on the fourth of July, too. I've noticed that very, very few people use the early rides (at least in Action Zone anyway), and not all that many people use the double ride lanes on SOB. I've wondered why more people don't use them.
  20. Yeah, I know he wasn't there all of last year. But I would still like to see what he would do if that happened.
  21. Well, think about it. Unless the money is in a wallet or something, there is no legitimate way to claim it. I think a good deal of the lost money goes into a employee scholarship program, also.
  22. Man, would I like to see Drew's reaction to that...
  23. I worked last Saturday and Sunday. Granted I only worked until 4 both days, but it was empty when I was there. SOB's line was walk-on.
  24. This is how the process generally works: When someone finds something left in a seat, they usually give it to us (the operators). We keep it in the driver booth until someone comes to get it that day. If nobody comes, we bring it down to the GR booth after the park closes. If someone loses an item on our ride and we can't find it, we have them fill out one of them lost article cards, and we bring that to GR. If the mechanics find something when they inspect the ride the next day and find something (other than money), I think they bring it to GR. So, bottom line, I would call GR. And BoddaH: that is one of the funniest stories I have ever heard on a roller coaster! However, I don't recall anyone losing the bikini top or anything like that on SOB, Top Gun, or any other ride at PKI. We just deal with hats and occasionally sweatshirts when it comes to clothes. Let me assure you that if it did, we would shut down every ride in the park so everyone could come get a look at her. Man, would that be a story.
