  1. I am sure someone suggested this before but could "X-Base", be the beginning of a totally new section of the Park? If anyone said this before, my apologies but the possibilities are endless and exciting to think about. LOL..don't beat me up to badly if I stated the obvious.
  2. This just came to me. I think it would be a great idea to bring back the Clown Band. It was really cool and they roamed the park and had great routines. What does everyone think?
  3. Question. Was that 20.8 mil from the original lawsuit a few years ago or is this something new to pay for the removal of the loop, the trains and whatever repairs were necessary?
  4. source: http://www.cleveland.com/plaindealer/stori...&thispage=1 It's obivious to me at least that unfortunately, SOB had design flaws. To much ride and to little engineering. I wonder if it could be re-engineered to operate at the speed it was supposed to? Werner Stengel (I hope I spelled thatv right) did the design and I know there was some kind of law suit regarding it's design or construction. The Beast was designed in house. I don't know if the same people worked for KI at the time SOB was proposed. It's a shame someone like Curits Summers couldn't have designed SOB. He designed some great woodies including one at CP. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems CF is trying to make the best of a bad situation. Sounds like it Son of Beast wont be a son, maybe a distant uncle you only see at Xmas? Ha. Curtis Summers. While some great designs back in the day, I'd hardly label Mean Streak at CP a successful one. Every huge wood coaster that he and Charlie Dinn worked together on quickly turned to crap.....Texas Giant, Hercules, Mean Streak and so on. I don't think the design on SOB is to blame at all. Does anyone NOT remember the fact that Paramount Parks ended up taking on the feat of being the general contractors for SOB? I put most, if not ALL the blame on PP. For starters taking on such a massive project that was far beyond what they were capable of handling was stupid. Isn't it ironic that in the lawsuit the ONE party that wasn't a part of it was Premier Rides? The trains weren't to blame for any of the problems the ride had then, however in 2007 they suddenly ARE the problem? Honestly, call it like it is. SOB is a wash and should have never seen the light of day. Hands down the worse investment in any park, anywhere. Followed closely by the likes of Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka of course. At least Dragster can somewhat run reliably now..... - Todd, Todd, you need to calm down and drink some warm milk. Curtis Summers is a WELL respected coaster designer. AND, if you check the records, you will see he had a BIG hand in desiging The Beast. That's I guess another coaster that turned to crap. So, as you say Todd, I will call like it is, you are perfectly welcome to express your opininons BUT, you don't have opinions, you are just not well informed. It wasn't constructed properly, but it wasn't designed properly either. Paramount blew it, that's what I said in the first place. Of the Curtis Summer rollercoasters you named, how many of them did you ride? Knowing Todd, probably all of them... And if that's the case, he needs to get his facts straight about The Beast and who had a BIG hand in it's design. And at the least, he should have respect for the dead.

  7. Fact. Holiday World is in a some what remote location. Fact. Holiday World is not a corperate owned property, it is owned by the Koch family. They have done an AMAZING job running a successful Theme Park with a far less financial base than CF, Disney, 6 Flags. The staff is extremely friendly, the park is totally family friendly, with free parking and drinks, Holiday World is an AMAZING value. I haven't even included the rollercoasters. Add that and to be honest, with it's size, I don't know how they make a profit let alone spend megabucks on coasters. I think every park operator could learn from the Koch family. BUT...if KI is expensive, take your family to the Reds, Bengals or a Movie. Add 3 dollar gas and you need a printing press to print your own money...JK
  8. It's too soon to really know how well they will do. But if you saw the interview with Dick Kinzel, he stated it usually takes 3-5 years for CF to make the changes to the parks it buys. Don't judge CF by this one year. Be patient and let's see what happens.
  9. Yeah, thanks for knocking Park Services and Landscaping and assuming we don't try our hardest to make the park look nice. Not to mention you just put the guys who re-decorated the water park (which looked like crap even BEFORE Paramount bought the parks), added the scenery on Tomb Raider and Flight of Fear and a few others, and decorated pretty much the entire park for FearFest to shame. But, then again, it's obvious that you don't come for the cleanliness of the park; you come for the Big Freakin' Massive Coasters of Awesomely Huge Bigness. Yes I love big coasters, but there is much more than that, one of my biggest complaints that I give of all parks is the lack non wild rides such as the antique cars and nice train rides in such I like a good variety so no I don't come just for the big coasters, example a is my recent thread on how I miss the old log flume rides. When KI was first opened, the mangement from Coney Island designed the park. Landscapping was VERY important. The Mall at CI was beautiful..they had a line of Japnese Ginko trees lining both sides of the mall. Those trees were moved to the Coney section of KI when it opened. Landscaping should be an important part of the theme park experience. KI when it first opened was beautiful. Beautiful trees, bushes and flowers were all over. I have been to CP and it was well maintained and looked nice. I hope they do the same for KI.
  10. PIKAH, I wish we had access to more guys like you. The people that were at at park in the beginning so we see what the REAL strategy was for certain rides like the trains. IN the beginning a lot of CI rides were installed, Rotor, TumbleBug, Trabant and The Eagles.. I have no idea why those rides were removed but some were really classic, Amusmant park rides. What I hope is that CF turns KI into a REALLY large scale Amusment Park. Start with the Coney Island section. Turn it into a CLASSIC amusment park experience, That section of the park needs the ride holes filled and turned back into what Coney Island really was when it was closed in the 70's. Then you go section by section and make the changes needed. CP is a GREAT park. Rides are placed well, flow is good coinsidering the space limitations. Both parks can can learn from each other. They will.
  11. Remember, the idea for a train ride came from Coney island. The last few years, they had a pretty good train ride. The fort was there so I am guessing the stunts with the CI train ride went to KI. I had heard the trains that were at CI were sold to the Zoo. Not sure about that. The first couple of years, the train ride at KI was pretty cool. They had some live characters but I think it was limited like weekends and such. The train ridse WAS let go as soon as the waterpark was opened. It was a mistake...it should be refitted as a ride and provide another way to get to the Waterpark should be provided...a train ride is an expensive operation. If you're going to run it, make something out of it.
  12. I know one thing, in the first years The Beast was open, there was a lot less breaking AND, I remember doing this but I don't remember when it was, there were times, I think the first run of the day, they would run it with NO breaking. That was SOMETHING. The Beast without breaks was amazing. They say the speed is what..65-68 now? I don't even know. But I would be willing to bet with no breaking, that sucker ran about 75-80. I might be letting time cloud my judgement, but man it was lightning. I'm sorry none of you got to experience that. No wooden coaster to this day can top it. Even with breaks.
  13. Homey....your ignorance is exceeded only by your inexperience. I am not expecting to get the Eagles back. I am way over it. I only stated that it was a short sighted decision to move a guest favorite ride then pay what it took to move it to another park when there was still room for it here. Wow boy, your estimation of the importance of your thoughts and opinions is amazing. One person expresses an opinion about the business ofmoving a ride and you're first response was to proclaim Italian Job would kick it's ass..which in comparing apples to oranges, then you mistake progress for this theme park for progress in the game of life. Homey, you should have lamented the Eagles leaving for their historical importance to the park, if you worried about the bigger picture, instead of the importance of your own wants and needs for KI, you'd be a better man. the world needs better men. Join THAT club. StewWill
  14. Homey~Progress does NOT march over people or things, Progress is supposed to be for the better. Losing Eagles was not. There was roon in the park for it and the guests that rode it liked it. Just because I don't care for a ride I don't applaud it's demise because a there are people that do. Think of the good of the guests, not your own narrow likes and dislikes. There was no reason to move it to another park, same number of tubs, same maintenance costs, all being equal, there was no reason to move it. Short sighted move. Your lack of appreciation of other guests' feelings is short sighted as well. StewWill
  15. I'm sorry, as much as I love KI...getting rid of the Eagles was not just a mistake but a stupid mistake. There are quite a few lower capacity rides in the park. I don't have to name them. There are very glaring holes on the Coney Mall where the ride could have been placed. Some rides have a sentimental attatchment for guests. KI was among the last parks to allow snapping. The Eagles was like the second oldest ride in the park. It wasn't a maintenance issue, Eagles is being moved to another park. Sheesh, it would have been cheaper to move it to Coney Mall than load it on a truck and move it to another park. Whoever made this decision was a total idiot. Why move a ride that was loved by a lot of people, to a park where the ride has no history especially when there was room in KI to move it? The ride will still be on the books, costing money to maintain. Sometimes, it seems the KI we grew up with is being purged to make it into a movie park. there is nothing wrong with well themed movie rides, but change for the better is a good thing, change for changes sake is a waste of time. Time is suppose to march on not over things or people. StewWill
  16. I rememeber that slogan well. The entire marketing campaign was built around Come On, Get Happy. There was a recorded jingle that played on radio and tv stations all summer. If you want to get REALLY detailed, the announcer for those commercials was Jerry Thomas, a moring guy at WKRC radio in Cincinnati. So there you have it. Stew Will
  17. To me, it's the feeling when you finally walk through the gates and feel the absolute electricty in the air. The anticipation of big kids headed for the rollercoasters and the little kids, maybe for the first time, riding a ride. It's knowing that for as many hours as you are there, nothing else matters. Just fun. It's sensory overload on a mamoth scale. Stewwill
  18. The figures you are talking about were brought from the original Train Ride from the old Coney Island. I think they were first installed in 1966-67. So when they were pulled..they were quite old. Just a little info from the past. Stewwill
  19. At the original Coney Island, the Wildcat lasted from the 30's until it was torn down to make way for the Skyride. The Shooting Star was revamped from another coaster. The original lift and first drop were from the original ride. I don't know when that was built but the Shooting Star opened in 1948-49 and of course lasted till 1972 when the park closed. It was running strong when it was closed so good maintenance will keep a woodie running as long as the park wants to keep it. StewWill

  21. Like any other group, event, whatever, some people have a need to break the rules. They ruin an event for everyone. I can offer examples but you know who they are. I read the accident report and its plain that the woman that was killed at HW was just about standing up on Raven. It's tragic, a total waste of human life but remember, she choose this action. I am not saying she deserved to die, no way but when you make bad choces, bad things happen. Since she was associated with a coaster club, it's guilt by association. That's a darn shame but it happenes all the time. I am sure all parks are scared silly that some person will try to get one past a ride attendent and try something stupid. Coaster groups are the best word of mouth any theme park can have. I hope that all theme parks will step back, take a breath and let the clubs spread the word about following the rules. This is just a knee jerk reaction from some parks and it will pass. We have all winter for this to blow over and it will. I live near the ocean, I have been told many times, "Don't turn your back on the sea." I can't believe that anyone will see a 200 foot high coaster and decide to challenge it. You can't win. Stewwill
  22. My company recently had a very severe lightning strike. It totally destroyed all of our electronic equipment. All of our equipment was replaced AND we had business interuption insurance. That will reimburse you for all lost revenue until you can get back to business. You can be sure, no matter what disaster struck PKI, that have enough of every type of insurance to replace any destroyed building or ride. They might have to close the park for reconstruction for a period but PKI is such a money maker, it would return. if you can remember the Coney Island days like I can, floods made a commplete mess of the park many, many times. the original oweners couldn't even get flood insurance. But Coney Island, except for a few rare exceptions, opened on time and ready to go. PKI would return. No doubt. Stewwill
  23. I am a newbie but be sure that if PKI was going to put a hotel there, they would not spend any money. They would take bids from a hotel chain and the chain would pay them for the right to build a hotel. It could be no chain would be willing to build there. Although I agree, there is not enough off season traffic there to build a hotel. Stewwill
