And Six Flags Great Adventure plays (until noon only) what sounds amazingly like Paramount Gate music at its gate... After noon, they switch to pop music.

Including Magic Mountain: Six Flags looks to deal six properties E-mail | Print | RSS Feed | Disable live quotes By Russ Britt, MarketWatch Last Update: 6:30 PM ET Jun 22, 2006 LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Six Flags Inc. said late Thursday that it's looking to shed six properties as part of its initiative to sell off noncore assets. Theme parks near Los Angeles, Houston, Seattle and Denver, as well as properties in Buffalo, N.Y. and Concord, Calif., are up for possible sale. The company said that it is unsure whether it would sell the parks in a single transaction or in series of deals, or it could dismantle and reuse rides and attractions elsewhere and sell the real estate. SIX has been looking to reorganize itself since December, when Chairman Daniel Snyder forced out management at the underperforming company. Former ESPN executive Mark Shapiro took the helm as chief executive at the time. He announced the plans to deal the properties Thursday. "We're making progress with our strategy to focus on the growth of our strongest assets, reduce the company's debt and generate increased value for our shareholders," Shapiro said in a statement. Late-trading investors dealt shares in the amusement-park operator lower at $6.06, down about 19% from the regular close of $7.45, which was up 5 cents. The proposed properties include Six Flags Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor near Los Angeles; Six Flags Darien Lake near Buffalo; Six Flags Waterworld in Concord; and Six Flags Elitch Gardens in Denver. Also on the list are Wild Waves and Enchanted Village outside Seattle and Six Flags Splashdown in Houston. The move is one of several the company has made to dispose of some of its assets. It also has sold the land around its Six Flags Astroworld; agreed to sell its Columbus, Ohio, water park for $2 million; and exercised the right to terminate its lease on a water park in Sacramento, Calif. It also is trying to sell its two Oklahoma City parks and has received multiple bids. Further, the company is looking to sell excess real estate in Illinois and Missouri. Six Flags said that sales were up through May 31, but down for the three weeks ended June 18 by 1%. Per-capita guest spending was up, however, by 14% while attendance fell 13%. The company discontinued deep discounts in season passes in an effort to "restore price and brand integrity and to wean ourselves from those teens who don't spend money in the park," Shapiro said in the statement. Attendance was negatively impacted by the season-long closure of the park in New Orleans due to damage from Hurricane Katrina. End of Story

But with that post you got to 6o1!
-
It does, but not as many as would otherwise be required. And it usually has at least one open door!
-
So how come Racer and Beast's tunnels have no such signs? (I am virtually certain I know the answer to this, but it's fun to ask). Same for Adventure Express!
-
Huzzah, the gate opening policy is changing

GR = Guest Relations. -
The lawyers would have a field day with that one. Just what we need...ride associates and teenagers armed with Tasers in a park. Sigh.
-
I really don't understand it. As WooferBearATL will no doubt confirm, 20 years ago you just did NOT see people spit in parks, you NEVER saw gum anywhere and graffiti was unheard of. Why people feel like they can trash public places nowadays is beyond me. Even the messes people leave on tables in restaurants and in motels just amaze me.
-
From what I have seen in the park, most spitting is not done by kids under 10. It's mostly teenagers who ought to know better (and who ought to be prosecuted). Same thing with vandalism, writing on stuff and spitting out gum. Most kids under 10 have one or more parents with them, and MOST (not all, but most) parents do make their kids behave.

It's not a Super WalMart. That rumor is not on target.

I kind of doubt it. I figure the new campground at KI will be done Cedar Fair style... For references, see Cedar Point.
-
A little bird from a fair has told me that effective very soon, the gates will open daily at KI at 9:30a.m, with metal detection starting at 9a.m. Guests will be allowed to gather at the head of International Street until 10 a.m. It's not a total reversal of the situation this year, but it is a start. . . This is the first positive step I have seen in preparation for the new way of doing things. Perhaps the CBS influence is starting to wane... I wonder if this will also apply to the other Paramount Parks? I heard so far it applies only to Kings Island. Apparently, there have been literally hundreds of guest complaints about standing in line outside the metal detectors for up to an hour (with no restroom access either, unless one begs). Surprise, surprise.
-
How he could know this when Cedar Fair itself doesn't know for sure what it is going to do is beyond me.

I actually think it was some time after the park opened up there before they had all three trains. In fact, both parks ran a mixture of rolling stock until the replacements were delivered. Anyway, they wouldn't have built the trains for KD's coaster before last winter. Too many things can happen to stop a coaster from actually being delivered. Why, the parks could even have changed hands....
-
Nope. The replacement trains were on loan. From the second IJST built...in Canada, from Canada's Wonderland. That park, conveniently, opens later than KI.
-
Well, this is certainly a nice and productive thread for new management of the park to see. . . Just an observation in passing. . . Paramount thought so much of ISJ that it built another, just about exactly like the first, at Doswell, Virginia, at Kings Dominion. The placement in that park is far better, though. And they didn't take out two family rides to put in what is an allegedly family oriented coaster. . .

Some day your time will come.... The Son of Beast is trying its best to get out of that box and...and...and, what exactly? Not unlike the old Steel Phantom at Kennywood, SOB is quite capable of giving you a nice, relatively civil ride this time, then, by cracky, BANGO the next time. How many times did you ride said Sonny? How tall are you? And how much do you weigh? All of these are factors on that "Son of Beast."
-
Perhaps this would not have happened had the sign been built of cedar of fair quality.

Hi, Tuba! I'd wondered what happened to you! Glad the grounding is over. Part of the cost of food in a park ends up going to fund rides, capital investment and even employee salaries. The cost base of running a restaurant in a theme park is much higher than outside. And the expected profit level is, too. But, there is a thing as too much. And I think several park chains have gotten there this year. Interestingly, Cedar Fair DROPPED most food prices this year, many substantially (quarter cotton candy, anyone?). Perhaps this bodes well for food at KI next year. And if you like White Castle, you just got to try Krystal. Their Krystals are awesome, and someone who posts here is seriously addicted to their BA burgers. (It is said that stands for Black Angus...many of the customers say it stands for Bad A...er, something else). Whatever it stands for, they are great! They also have tiny little hot dogs (even smaller than Cinci style) called Chili Cheese Pups. The chili on them is, I swear, Armour. Sigh.

Nickelodeon Celebration Parade!
The Interpreter replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Okay....since you said at first you never watch any of the shows (prior to this time), I just gotta ask: Do you watch the shows at Disney? Which ones? Where? School of Rock is good, yes. The Nick parade is impressive for a seasonal park, yes. The performers put their heart and soul into their work? Indeed! But on a par with Disney? With Disney levels of props, staffing, original music and scores, care and preparation? Do you really have a Disney show knowledge base to compare the Paramount entertainment to? Have you seen, say, Phantasmic? The Disney Electric Parade? Not picking on you (I hope I wouldn't do that), but I am just curious. Just as I was shocked the other day when a poster suggested anything Cedar Fair did would be better than Paramount show-wise. Then again, it's opinion. But I really am interested. And I must ask, have you seen the shows at Seaworld in Orlando? Ever seen a Broadway show? An off-Broadway show? Or the Christmas show at Dollywood? Or even a show at Six Flags Over Texas, Fiesta Texas or Six Flags Great Adventure (the latter ONLY after 2004)? If you don't normally watch shows, and think that Paramount's entertainment is on a par with Disney, it isn't very much different than someone who doesn't ride coasters but rode Space Mountain once to think it is on a par with Voyage. Or with The Beast. Etc., etc. -
Will Cedar Fair Move "Corkscrew to K.I. + More?
The Interpreter replied to marlfox_21's topic in KI Polls
when I was at CP last, earlier this year, chaos ride was still there... By cracky, you are right! http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/ride...chaos/index.cfm Please strike that foolishness I wrote above (I was told they were removing them all...obviously they did not.) Thank you for pointing that out... Carry on... -
Will Cedar Fair Move "Corkscrew to K.I. + More?
The Interpreter replied to marlfox_21's topic in KI Polls
Uh, Cedar Fair has REmoved all their Chaos rides. They won't be moving anywhere, except if someone is silly enough to buy one of them. . . EDIT: SEE BELOW. I obviously was NOT right when I wrote this. Thanks cewldre for letting me know! -
That may or may not be true. As has been said many other places, Cedar Fair has said over and over again that they haven't decided this issue yet. What's so hard to understand about that?
