Cedar Fair gets Antitrust Approval for Acquisition
The Interpreter replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Kings Island
THAT is the straw I was waiting on. I now think it may be as early as tomorrow... -
So, what is CBS going to do with the money that it is getting from selling Paramount Parks (all cash, by the way)? Setting up a movie studio (to compete with Paramount!)? http://www.cinematical.com/2006/06/26/cbs-...w-movie-studio/

I break my silence on the Flying Eagles
The Interpreter replied to Steveo3631's topic in Kings Island
There is much wisdom here, and some blarney. The land values around KI are NOT low. Look for Cedar Fair to put in and/or buy lodging properties around the park. And an excellent question is how Cedar Fair will run the Eagles they will now have at Carowinds and elsewhere. I do NOT see them allowing guests to snap the cables. I suspect those days are over, and sooner than later. -
Cedar Fair must decide on headquarters site
The Interpreter replied to cincyboy0830's topic in Kings Island
That decision has NOT been made. There are, you see, certain concessions that Sandusky might be expected to offer if it wishes to retain the headquarters. As for Cinci getting the headquarters, that is about as likely as the headquarters moving to Paramus, New Jersey. Which is to say, it won't happen. -
Through the end of the season in October.... Trying to tell us something about WinterFest?

Even if the contract does SAY (and we don't know that it does) that Coke must be served by Paramount's successors or assigns, there are ways that a company can avoid that. People who don't want to do business with each other usually find a way to end that relationship...one way or another, from pushing the other party to want out to paying to end the relationship. It all depends on what Cedar Fair wants and how badly it wants it....assuming that the contract does apply to successors and assigns, which it may not. I also see food prices being lowered substantially relatively soon. Then again, I may just be dreaming.

And, they could cut SOB apart, get the valleyed train out of the Rose Bowl unvalleyed with a crane, and have the ride back up and running in mere hours. Those guys do a great job!
-
It's really too early to know. One thing that is almost a certainty though, is that season pass prices will probably go up and free parking with a season pass is probably history. You can also expect a lot more garbage cans, probably overall a cleaner park, and increased staffing in the rides department. From what I have seen, the entertainment at Cedar Fair is not as good as Paramount's. And that's saying something.
-
It's actually the other way around. CF is deciding if they want to retain the Paramount licensing....which is not free...

One word. A different one for me than you. You, Mr. WooferBearATL: Goliath. Me, Nitro. Any questions?
-
(me too, but I tend to underpromise and overdeliver...) (how long before the Paramount signs start to disappear?)
-
Pickles for lunch at KI? About 12 bucks, probably. Then again, some people filch them off the bar at Fest Haus, though technically that is stealing if you aren't garnishing your purchase! Perhaps CF will lower the food prices!

What's wrong with clones? <<< Loves a good Batman ride...

Based on this story, I would say a closing is VERY near....perhaps as soon as next Monday or Wednesday: http://toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...NESS06/60627001

Smoothest ride I ever had on The Beast
The Interpreter replied to coasterking123456's topic in Trip Reports
Until you have ridden El Toro, you really don't know what stapling is. Well, maybe if you've ridden J2. Or been to Knott's Berry Farm during a thoosie event... -
And at said Geauga Lake, attendance fell dramatically. The effect was such it actually negatively affected the entire chain's profit levels, such that Dick Kinzel even said they had misjudged the effect that removal of the animals had. I am not sure that was all that affected attendance at Geauga. Cedar Fair is a fine company. They do a lot of things well. But, they could learn a lot from how Paramount treats passholders and from how and when Paramount processes passes.

I believe the 7 year old and the 4 year old were riding together. And it is a small, nearly kiddie ride. I see restraints coming for Ferris Wheels, I fear. Just about a week ago, a little boy died in California when he apparently panicked and climbed out of a 90 foot tall Ferris Wheel when it stopped while he was at the top position. The operator in that incident apparently did not speak English, either. And the mother "thought" her son would be riding with others.

No. Coaster Mania and Coaster Madness are PARK sponsored events, open to any card carrying member of ANY coaster club (and a guest) (and to stockholders and resort guests, or so I hear...)
-
But Paramount had to pay another employee....by not doing so, they saved money. Whether or not the average guest noticed the crowding and less pleasant station is the question. . .

For the six zillionth time (SIGH), MM IS making money. The issues are: (a) whether it fits or can be made to fit the family image that Snyder and Shapiro want, and ( whether the land under it is so valuable it is smarter to sell the park and apply the monies to the huge debt that former management left behind. This is NOT about whether or not MM is making money, it IS about whether or not MM fits the new Six Flags and/or whether it is just smarter to sell the place and move on...

If the shops were "messed up," Cedar Point dealt with it quickly. I was there on the 23rd, and noted no residual evidence of flooding....

Cedar Fair offers similar perks at Cedar Point---early entry, exclusive ERTs, etc. But they call it Joe Cool, and they charge extra for it. And they often offer the same perks to guests staying on their resort properties. I also wonder if this means Kings Island will begin offering a "thoosie event" similar to Coaster Mania at Cedar Point or Coaster Madness at Dorney...

Hmmmm. Sounds like some of the people I go to parks with....They get tired, cranky and don't have any tolerance for lines. I wonder if they are closet two year olds!
