Not to mention, even if both towers were the same height to the inch, WindSeekers riders are suspended. Even spinning at a forty-five degree angle, they're height of the tower minus distance from top of tower to gondola minus 1/2 swing arm length. If I were a betting man, I'd say that riders on Drop Zone are technically higher. But that's like asking if Pirates of the Caribbean has a faster water flow rate than It's A Small World. Like, it could be answered... But why does it matter?

I do, too.

Some might also look at the Kings Island of recent and imagine the real slogan to be: "Why fix it if it is broke?"

The Eurobungy was a trampoline attraction up till 2009. In 2010, it was replaced by the Eurobobble (where guests in inflatable hamster balls "ran" on a pool of water - or sat and tried desperately to stand, as the case ended up being). In 2011, it became the Dinosaurs Alive Prehistoric Pavilion or something, to host birthday parties. One thing I'm most looking forward to in 2012 is to see how much it costs to see the 3-D dinosaur movie. I still maintain that, even if it were included with park admission, that thing would never play to a full house.

I really wouldn't worry about that. Like, at all.

Probably finishing touches on making the area ready for guests and / or that season passholder preview. The fact that it's a preview day indicates that it won't have been seen by the general public by then, right? So it would have to be that the waterpark's first visitors are passholders.

You're right about that! See, it's that sort of thing that's surprising. It seems to really truly indicate that Kings Island representatives saw what we were saying here and made changes accordingly. It seems unlikely that they'd decide to go back and add trees, a loop, change colors, add dimensionality on rides like Vortex, etc. while we coincidentally mentioned those same (admittedly) insignificant things here. They paid attention. And there really was no reason to change those things except so that we would notice. Bravo, Kings Island representatives... If you read this, we noticed!

I would guess that The Crypt as a ride (not necessarily just the giant top spin, but the entire ride) is gone for good. It's a shame. if Ouimet knew what Tomb Raider: The Ride was, he might've delegated someone somewhere to at least figure out what to do to create a workable dark ride / thrill ride using the top spin technology. It was and continues to be a genuine smart, unique, innovative idea to use that ride model as a dark ride.

^ I'm sure they'll be regularly checking this site to find errors like that. (I still can't help but notice that many of the problems we pointed out in the park map have been corrected - things like adding trees, the little area that was orange on Diamondback's track, etc) which makes me believe they do use us for things like that.
-
^^ Interesting, but not surprising. Down for a year or down for the count? I'd imagine it's the latter. RIP Giant Top Spin. You were a good ride for a year or two, and get an A for effort for a few years after that.

And when you think about Ouimet's focus on family entertainment and the simple fact that some can be more pleased by a family ride than what is a million-dollar chance.

Typically a lot of the water rides at the annual parks close in January and February for maintenance - even in Florida, it's not fun being drenched on the 50 degree days, so it's a prime time to do seasonal work.

No matter what Kings Island does or says, it incites rumors about Son of Beast here. When they talk about it; when they don't talk about it; when they show its trains on an unrelated TV show; when they don't show people working on it; when they don't mention it at shareholder meetings; when they don't put it on the map; when they don't move its trains... How does it all add up to Kings Island trying to tease people about Son of Beast? How its their silence all part of a fun game they're playing?

Most of the people watching that show probably had absolutely no idea that an amusement park named Kings Island existed at all, much less that a controversial wooden coaster used to operate there. I think that would've been a foolish time to announce any potential changes, personally.

If you hang around here enough, you'll come to understand the "inner workings" of roller coasters and other rides, and recognize how mistaken your friend must be. Complex mechanical systems and redundant safety features are in place on all roller coasters. The restraints on Flight Deck are (to my knowledge) unlocked from underneath the train or by pressing a pedal along the side of each individual car. If one restraint is unlocked, all of the restraints in that car (four seats) would be, as well. Therefore, it's not possible to manually release the restraints during the ride. Sometimes rides can definitely give the feeling of weightlessness, and the rigorous swaying of Flight Deck may make it seem like your over the shoulder restraint is fitting loosely. However, the idea that one restraint might come undone is not only extraordinarily improbable and mechanically unlikely, but that it would happen five times to one person on five separate instances makes it about as close to statistically impossible as it can be. I don't doubt your friend truly felt like her restraint came undone at least the first time, but as a community that tries to get people to enjoy Kings Island and understand it, I feel like it's necessary to let you know how near impossible it is that it happened at all, much less five times to one person. But others with far more knowledge about that particular ride's safety features can say more if they choose. Also, welcome! Hope you stick around and we don't scare you off.

It happened on one of them zippity doo dah days.

Or Ed Hart.

That ride is on fire! Something you wouldn't expect of a water ride... GYK, who will be here all week? Or is it too soon?

School project on "coasters of the 90s"
bkroz replied to TTD-120-420's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I was going to say, Islands of Adventure is a great place to start. Spider-Man revolutionized dark rides and was astounding from top to bottom when it opened. Dueling Dragons is also a technology that came to a head then, with the precise train weighing that automatically adjusted brakes to have the two meet up. Don't forget Drop Zone opened in 1999 as the world's tallest gyro drop - still is! -
I think in general, dry amusement parks max out at one log flume, one "splashdown" boat, and one circular rapids ride. As it is, Kings Island has one of each. And as kingsrattler said, they're nice models. Comparatively, Cedar Point had one of each model, as well, but all of them get you completely and utterly soaked to the bone. At least at Kings Island, you can choose a mist & a spritz (Race For Your Life), a chance of getting soaked (White Water Canyon), or a complete drenching (Congo Falls). I think it would be a unique and fun idea to have a new age style water ride straddling the border between Kings Island and Soak City, available to guests at both parks (like Pilgrim's Plunge at Holiday World) but our practically-detached waterpark might make that difficult.

Indiana Beach looking for Marketing Intern
bkroz replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I will definitely be passing this on to my best friend of 17 years, who is a junior in marketing communications (with a minor in advertising) at Kent State University up here near Akron. She's very into music and such a lively, fun girl, this job (and even application process) seems right up her alley! Very cool. -

Advice from people who have been to Universal
bkroz replied to TTD-120-420's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I think that the updating going on on Spider-Man is ongoing and shouldn't interfere with the ride's operation too much. My understanding is that it's new, re-animated, HD scenes (which are produced elsewhere and pretty effortlessly switched over, if DarKastle is any indication) shouldn't close the ride. It's probably just the installation of new projection equipment and test-and-adjust that might get in the way, but they've already updated two scenes or something, so I don't think it's a close-for-three-months type of upgrade. You could always contact the resort. They're great at answering questions. -
Just looking at the structure of the topple tower and watching the motions it undergoes is staggering. Imagine the work done by various stabilizers inside... I'm surprised it ever worked to begin with, honestly.

FUN Investor Conference, Record Attendance
bkroz replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Well the CEO might not have been able to find any preferred real estate on Cedar Point. Sandusky's park may remain the chain's flagship, but that doesn't mean the entire company needs to be clustered around it.
