I have to say I agree. I loved the view of Coney Mall from that side. I also loved the surprise of falling to the right as I was getting ready to fall to the left. We all know it drops to the right on that side, but you're still not prepared for it. That was the cool part, doing everything, um, backwards.

What Was Your Impression of KI for Opening Day 08?
touchdown62 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in KI Polls
I loved the Red Racer. It was fast, smooth, and a whole new experience. As the train got to the hill where the 2 tracks split off, I was looking to the left. The train went to the right. Not used to that, but LOVED it. Also liked seeing some decent music videos in the queues instead of those creepy dancing cats. Also loved the food in Wings. Saw some of the people on here, but was too busy tearing that buffet a new one to say hi. Best part was going to the park with 9 of my friends. If anyone remembers the people yelling "Ruffio, Ruffio, Ru-ffi-OOOO," "Bangerang," "You can fight, you can fly, you can *cock-a-doodle-doo*," "Marco... Polo... Chuck... Norris... Bork Bork... Chicky Chicky," and "Aflac," that was us. -
What was the first roller coaster youve ridden?
touchdown62 replied to Phantom Theater's topic in KI Polls
I think the first coaster I ever rode was Space Mountain at Walt Disney World. The first coaster I rode with my eyes open was Whizzer at SF Great America. -
I LOVE riding the backward Racer. I ride that more often than the forward racer. I love the air time you get on the backward side. If you ride it enough, you know where the hills are and when it's changing direction. The air time does it for me. I will be very disappointed if they do turn around the backward side. Oh well. I'll still go several times a year. It's just 1 ride.

Should KI host a New Year's Eve Party and charge admission?
touchdown62 replied to italianchef's topic in KI Polls
This sounds great, and Lord knows I would love to ride The Beast in the snow. I've ridden it in the rain, high wind, and even in sleet, but never snow. This idea would be a logistical nightmare, with staffing restaurants, ticket booths, security gates, front gates, eco, and whatever attractions could be opened, not to mention seeing the park in the middle of its off-season rehab. Best that could ever happen would be to have a travelling carnival in the parking lot, watch some kind of ball or whatnot drop down the Eiffel Tower, then catch a movie across the street if you reserved the theater. -
You wouldn't necessarily have to have an employee stand there and inflate basketballs at the gate. There could be a coin-operated air machine that could be programmed to shut off when the basketball gets a certain amount of air pressure or after a certain amount of time (like 15 seconds or so).

SFGAm Bin Theft Reported
touchdown62 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
That's ok. On Saturday, my friend almost lost his innocence on Son of Beast. Somewhere along the ride, Sonny undid his belt buckle (note: NOT seat belt). I don't know what kind of belt buckle it was, but that's quite a feat for Sonny. -
That is completely not fair for those of us who live like over an hour away. I was going to pick my jacket up Sunday when I was on my way back home from my last visit of the year. Is there any way we can have our jackets mailed? I don't care if it's postage due. I just don't want to spend $40 in gas just so I can get my jacket guaranteed. There's no guarantee there'll be jackets in my size when I go back next season.

What? There's another park besides Kings Island? NO WAY!

107 flips on a top-spin!?

Was that like a world record attempt or something? Beware Oktoberfest in Germany! -
I don't see Congo Falls leaving any time soon. So many kids love that ride, especially when they stand on the bridge and get whomped by the waves. Heck, I even know some adults who like to brave the bridge. Moving it would make sense, but I can't ever see it leaving, especially since temps in SW Ohio can reach 100+ degrees in the summer, and having those water rides helps to break the heat a bit.

So, next October, would season pass holders need to pay for a ticket for the day if they arrive at the park in the morning, or will KI only charge for HH when the event actually starts in the evenings?

A Press Account of Labor Day Weekend at KI
touchdown62 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Trip Reports
Rides tampered with? Rides faster and more dangerous? Try faster and more thrilling. She made it sound like the rides were sabotaged. Leave it to some hick in Anderson to trash a great coaster park. If you can't stand the heat, stay off The Beast. Maybe she should have ridden the train all day. -
Great job with the Photoshop! Scale looks pretty good. I would like to see Kingda Ka moved so it's behind TTD, turned 180 degrees from TTD. Launch both trains at the same time toward each other and see which one makes the top hat first. I say toward each other because the closing speed would be over 240 mph. Kinda freaky. Yeah, KK is higher, but it's also faster. Could be the new racing coaster at KI.

I say the worst thing, especially this year, is the lull-you-to-sleep 80's soft rock on International Street. I'm a child of the 80's, listening to Boy George, Wham, The Thompson Twins, and Culture Club and all, but that music is bad even for me.
-
That's an awesome idea! I loved the School of Rock show the past couple years. On ice would be a lot of fun. And no, I wasn't reading your sig.

That sounds sweet. That would make renewing so much more convenient. Finally a perk I can sink my teeth into. I know it's too early for details, but do you think those of us with the parking included in our passes will still have parking next season, as long as we renew when the time comes?
-
Duly noted, Firehawk (and quite frankly, I agree), but what can you do? Now you know what kind of jobs NOT to take when you start working for a living. I've heard of people being scared $#!&less of a ride, but that one took the cake.

How about this for a story... I was in the queue for Flight of Fear like 5 years ago (when it was still "Outer Limits" with the OTSR) when someone did worse than hurl. Hot day, full line, and someone couldn't quite make it up to the ride, much less to the restroom. At first, it smelled like someone passed one of those rafter-rattling farts, but then it just lingered and lingered. We came around the last turn before the entrance into the ship when we saw the streaks along the rails. By far one of the worst things I've seen in regards to bodily functions. I felt so sorry for the poor shlub who had to clean that one up.

I've never tossed my cookies on a ride, but I did get sick one time. It was during Viper 's opening season at Great America on a hot, cloudless day. The queue line had no shade or cover, and I started getting sunstroke from the wait in line. I actually had to keep myself off the next ride so I could sit in the shade and drink some water. I even dozed off a bit while everyone else rode. I was so ticked. I did about throw up in a batch of eggs I was making before opening one morning when I was working at Burger King, but never on something as tame as a roller coaster. Something about that particular carton of eggs darn near set me off.

My first ride: Firehawk! (bet you can't guess when that was!) My last rides: BEAST--multiple occasions RACER That's all for now.

That is true. The value was unbelievable for all we got to do. Even better deal for the season pass holders. I shouldn't complain about dinner, but that was my story and I'm sticking to it. Now if you all don't mind, I've been up for 21 hours, and I'm going to bed. Congrats to those of you who made it 36+ hours like I know some of you did.

It's not that I disliked the International Restaurant, I was just a little let down with the food choices.

Let me just add my thanks to all involved, especially Ryan, Dane, Josh, and Don, Mr. Racer 12000 himself. This was an incredible day. It was so cool to go where no one else can go and get all the looks from people with that "who are those people" look. I loved having first ride on Firehawk and last ride on The Beast, even if it meant I didn't get home until 1:30 after getting up at 5:30. Upon seeing the King Cobra cars in the FOF dome, I just wonder how anyone ever thought those things were safe to ride on. There was so little to them. Thanks again. I had a blast. As I told Josh when leaving the park, "We must do this again sometime." For some people wanting to put a face to a screen name, just remember one thing... 5 pounds of cement and 2 ping pong balls.
