Hard Rock Park SOLD!
Today's story...an update to Robbie's posting: http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/business/story/779547.html This is far from a done deal yet, note this line: In almost all foreclosures, bankruptcies, and sheriff sales, liens and defaulted taxes ARE a part of the sale. In very few instances are properties sold free of the liens against them. While this is good news so far, let's see where this goes!

Pre Kings Island Rituals
I live so close (30 minutes) and go to the park more than 90 times a year, so I don't have a very creative ritual like some of you. I guess my ritual would be, grab a Gatorade or Powerade, and once I get out to my car, roll down all the windows of my car, and turn the music on something upbeat. Going to Kings Island, I ALWAYS go OH-741 the whole way (Rather than I-75south). The drive is just peaceful and puts me in a good mood. Oh, I pick out a pen every day before I leave as well. Sometimes I go with blue, sometimes black, sometimes I have a lucky green one that has been good to me!

What would you like changed to KI in the next five years?
I absolutely agree with this statement. You sum up that clean feeling perfectly! One thing people have overlooked is that the price point and attractiveness of Kings Island can bring a much different crowd than what the Disney parks are privileged to! Cheap tickets can be bought online for a one day or two day adventure at Kings Island, however except for off-peak times Disney is able to employ a Premium pricing plan. This has great influence on the makeup of people coming through your gates! A greater portion of a person is invested in the experience at a Disney park by way of their checkbook than at any other park. Anyone willing to make that investment is more apt to respect the park and keep it clean! That said, since Cedar Fair took over, Kings Island has become a much cleaner park than it had been under Paramount/CBS. Everyday I walk through the gates, I am reminded of how lucky we are to have a park like Kings Island so close to us!

My first funnel cake....and the first day I see all those smiling faces of people on opening day. You know you are alive during that moment!

What do you think KI will bring back for the 2009 season?
I had a dream The Racer was taken out completely! And a ride like Thunderhead was put out by the turn-around! And I hope for paw prints!

Something I Found Interesting
I am looking for the old Paramount Park's video that used to play on the park websites about 6 years ago. The Video was "The best in hollywood entertainment now playing" at Paramount Parks video. Has anyone come across this on Youtube or have a link to where it has been saved? I tried going to the old sites on the wayback machine, and naturally the old video that played is a broken link!

Diamondback Trivia
Are you including foundation weight? Or just Track and supports? If just track and supports, according to KIDiamondback.com, then your looking at 1,503 tons. If you include foundations its gonna be more than that....

FUN Files 8-K With SEC
Well, these particular instances are covered more in the Finance type classes, and less in Econ! Either way, as Interpreter pointed out this can be read into more than likely as your typical "refinancing" just on a larger more complex level. For lenders, it is important to keep customers, especially large customers like that whom have borrowed over a billion dollars. If Company A borrows 10 million dollars, and with Interest, said company owes 18 million; Company A would in a healthy climate honor obligations to pay in full. In a non-healthy climate, one such as today, The lender would much rather receive 12 million, than the pennies on the dollar they would get if a liquidation were to occur, or lost business. So often in business, the main objectives are to keep shareholders happy and maximize profits. What gets overlooked, especially in coursework is that to keep turning profits you must keep a solid customer base.

Disney Profits Decline 32 Percent; Shares Down 10 Percent
I agree with Mr. Munarriz's assessment, in most ways but one in particular. I never have liked his stance that parks being closed during this winter season will help them stay away from the slumping economy. That time where the parks are not open is a lost revenue opportunity, and a time when the fixed costs, in other industries are being covered. Now that is not to say that if the parks were open right now they would make any profit. It just so happens that by being primarily a seasonal industry; being closed during the colder months forces the industry in many ways to be a slow growth sector, whether in a recession or not. I have long wondered why a company like an amusement park operator would not diversify their holdings and operations more to keep some revenue coming in the slow months. By that, I would think if a company could capitalize on marketing some sort of merchandise during the colder months when parks are closed, or have more FEC type attractions, they could offset some of the slow-growth the industry is custom to. I am not saying it is possible, but it sure would be nice to see some greater synergies in the entertainment industry!

Kings Island Central Will Help You Drive Those Offseason Blues Away (Sold Out!), Diamondback Construction & More!
It looks like Saturday is going to be book-ended by snow and rain, so hopefully that does not change by Saturday. I too, have seen temps as high as 41 for Saturday, and at last glance as low as 25. Monday looks to be a nasty storm again, too early to tell, but it should get here early next week if all holds up!

Diamondback Construction Thread (Updated 3-19-09)
What you see in that Diamondback picture is what you get, sans maybe a roof? It has been stated repeatedly that track work is complete, more than likely that includes any actual track work, whether related to storage or to the circuit itself!

BREAKING: Hard Rock Park Bankrupt: Files Chapter 7
Just court proceedings, lots of research on the part of the courts and debtors, and other behind the scenes things that will probably not be released until it is time to do so... That doesn't help a whole lot but that is basically it, as far as I have found.
