  1. I got it take out NOTHING. Then I think they should add a stage and big sandy area (maybe volley ball courts) then they could have Spring Break Beach Parties and Summer Block Parties. Of course I think this should be added as part of Boomerang Bay. Think of it though it could be a huge draw, maybe it could be a Timberwolf replacement and freeing up that land or it could just be an interesting alternative for live shows.
  2. This all reminds me of when it was announced that Opryland would be no longer. They originally had said that some rides would remain and be incoporated into the new development. As history has now shown us they left no rides for the Opry Mills development. While I personally think Geauga Lake should be saved as a theme park if it's going to be any less I would much rather the Big Dipper be sent to a park to be enjoyed and not in the middle of a shopping mall. Dollywood, earlier this year tried to save the Zippin Pippin (Elvis's favorite roller coaster at (now defunct) Liberty Land in Memphis) but was then later decided to be used at Carolina Crossroads (which Dolly's brother plays a part in) well to those who payed attention to that situation the Zippin Pippin was then later scrapped in the plans at Carolina Crossroads and they actually donated the coaster back (minus the cars previously sold) to a local activist group trying to save the park and ride. Now that its back in the hands of a group that doesn't have a large cash flow I fear for what may happen to the ride. That being said I feel it's very likely if a group was to save (in terms) the Big Dipper and others I feel that saving them may actually destroy them. So while I wish Geauga Lake was still there, now that it's leaving I really hope those coasters find a new home at another park.
  3. I do hope the park gets built. Not as much as I want Ole South USA to get built but none the less. www.olesouthusa.com After reading that article about Wild Escape my big question is WHY can't they just leave the streams and it just be part of the parks atmosphere. I myself would rather walk over a few bridges than to know that there USED to be a stream there.
  4. <<< As seen by my avatar you can see i'm a tad partial. However, I really can say that Dollywood is an amazing sight for Christmas. I for one am a HUGE fan of the GIANT blue tree at the center of the park. I wish Cedar Fair would take a visit too see what a winter event could be like.
  5. Okay so I just found an actual riders account of the slide itself and indeed what does happen if you slide back down before you reach the top of the loop. The following quote can be found at..... http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewt...sc&start=30 BY BACLUELESS: The following is the story of the looping waterslide and me! So you walk across the grass, since there was no walkway over to the slide, and completely strip down. The rules were basically you must wear the most basic pair of shorts....and nothing else.....no shorts with metal rivets, no zippers, no bikini's, no sweatpant shorts (yes, it was the early 90's), no cut offs....just plain ole bathing suits! No jewelry of any kind! After you completely stripped down, you stepped on the scale (no digital, just a scale you found at the nurses office in elementary school). I believe you had to weigh over 125 and less then 180 or 200. But dont quote me on the weight limits. After you got the ok, you walked up the stairs, where you could feel your heart pounding. Im getting anxious just writing this. My old supervisor Brian was at the top waiting to wet you down with the freezing cold spring water from the hose. Once you were completely frozen and terrified, it got worse......you looked down the pitch black hole! There was a tiny little area where you could sit before launching into the deep abyss. It all seemed to go silent as you looked down the tube where you could see is the water spraying from the top of the tube and running down into nothing. Here is where you take a breath, stiffen up, and go for it! You are not sure if you give yourself a boost and pull yourself down the beginning or just sit back and just crawl over the ledge. So just to be safe, I pulled myself down, crossed my ankles, supported my head (trying to keep my head off the semi-soft foam that lined the tube) I got super nervous as I darted off into the darkness. The speed was terrifying and I had no idea as to when I was going to hit the bottom. Well my speed kept on increasing then......WHAM! I HIT BOTTOM! Yup, you definately know when you are about to go thru the loop, because your head becomes the tail end of a whip and smashes into bottom of the loop. Your speed is soo great that you have no problem making it up the front side of the loop. Here is where things get weird, as if they havent seemed screwed up already. Your body is completely upside down, pressed against the wall, then Uh-oh, your speed starts to slow down, but it is still enough to keep your body barely riding along the top of the loop. The tension starts to fade, as you know that you made it to the top. As the water is just enough to keep the walls slick, you start to pick up speed once again as you make it down the backside of the loop. LIGHT!!! As you start to pull out, your eyes closed, the sun starts to peek thru you eyelids.....You made it.....Your body is then flung into a pool of water maybe about 3 feet deep. You lay there for a minute saying to yourself....Holy Crap.....I have the worst headache in the world, but Holy Crap, I just went thru a loop on a waterslide!!! Hell yeah!! As you pull yourself out of the pool, which had no ladder or steps, you look up the hill as everyone is watching in disbelief that someone would actually do the most terrifying waterslide in the world. But as I made my way up the grass covered ski slope, I found myself walking back over to the steps to do it all over again!!! Not all people would make it thru as easy as I did though.....If you were standing at the top of the slide, you would here people start screaming that they cant do it as they were already sliding down the tunnel. They would start out OK, but when the speed starts to pick up, the person would stick their hands out to slow themselves down...BAD MOVE!! You need as much speed as possible. Once you stick your hands out, the person would make it up most of the loop, then bang onto the top (or bottom, depending on how you look at it) of the loop. Then, depending on how much speed the person had, you would either make it all the way around (banging onto the outer part of the slide as you made it to the bottom outside wall) or you would fall back head first towards the bottom of the hill...aka...valley in the tube.... If that happened, there was a latch at the bottom of the loop for the unfortunate.
  6. Okay so looking through the vast internet I came across what for all I know is the only looping waterslide to ever have existed. It was apparently at Action Park in Vernon NJ. While this one just looks scary (though likely fun) I really wish that the "safer" version would show up at BB http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Action_...water_slide.jpg Check It Out!
  7. hmmm this all very interesting.... I recall earlier this year Herschend expressed interest in buying the Zippen Pippen for Dollywood... but then it was bought for Carolina Crossroads development but then the city of memphis and local citizens ended up getting it to stay (at least at last i heard).... well what i was trying to say I wonder if maybe they would be interested in Geauga Lake's old coasters and now that Herschend has 3 parks they could buy one for each park.
  8. I agree, I don't like the colored lights at all. I think they should do the Eiffel Tower like the real one with the twinkling lights on the tower. hh8mSKSmnnQ
  9. From time to time I keep on hearing about all this extra land that KI has and how the majority of it is "unusable." I just wanted to say that if they ever need the extra land then I'm sure the "unusable" land could become quite "usable." One only needs to look at Dollywood to see that especially looking at next years plan. Think about the land between Mystery Mine and Tennessee Tornado to many it would of been considered "unusable" too steep for development but yet Dollywood is planning on linking those two canyons for next year ( I cant tell you how excited I am for this as it means no more GIANT DEAD ENDS). Now I'm not really all to familiar with KI available land all I was really wanting to say is that I wouldn't be suprised if one day KI had an entirely new section of the park in a place you might of thought was impossible.
  10. http://www.themeparks.com/cp/history.htm Check that out it has some of the Cedar Point history on there.... I saw the previous posts and I too knew about CP's once near demise so I've been searching for where I knew that from and well there's part of the story.
  11. <<<< THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS NOT TRUE BUT MAKES SENSE >>>>> This just in..... Cedar Fair has been taken over by the executives of Gaylord Entertainment it is the sole plan to pave paradise and put up a parking lot For those that didn't get that and you know who you are..... this to me just seems way to eerily familiar with the land once known as Opryland USA
  12. hmmm..... Well I definitley see both sides on this.... however I don't think they should have an upcharge. Why, you may ask? I think that is purely money driven if they did (though honestly you have to have profit). Every year parks make investments (or at least they should) they say hey I want to pay 20 million to have this coaster and hey i want to spend a million a year on general improvements..... dollywood has festival after festival at no extra charge ever..... they think about it kinda the same way as spending the money on a ride.... they spend money on these festivals for the guests to have a better experience.... not to charge them it's like the park would be selling something else to the guests, after your guest already paid to get in. I understand that $20 dollars or more even would be a good deal to attend Halloween Haunt but Kings Island isn't just a haunted house that opens up a few weekends a year, it's much more. I think they should just think about it as part of their capital spending. I think most guests would see not having to pay extra as a positive and would overall improve the guests' experience. A happy guests tells one person, an unhappy guests tells ten people. Mad people are less likely to come to a park and spend money.
  13. hmm i dont think they should scrap the ride all together.... but if they arent going to keep up the theming they should make it an outdoor ride. IMHO Kings Island is in need of some flat rides so no reason to get rid of one. Plus I'm not sure how easily it could be done... but if it were moved outside of course then the current program wouldnt work as well.... could they just reprogram it to a different cycle? Back on topic however I do think if TR TR is not going to be operating for Halloween Haunt the que area just screams to me haunted house.
  14. hmm it would be cool if they used the que area of tomb raider for a haunted house. Perhaps maybe they should even just take TR TR out of the building all together and put it on flight commanders old pad.
  15. And folks like to pick on Screamscape, but from my view they seem to get a lot correct. (And they get it correct well before the actual announcements are made.) So as the story goes.... Those that do know, Do Talk to Screamscape. Just to add to that a little bit. Ya sometimes Screamscape may be a little quick to post some things. That is why it is posted as either a Rumor, Semi-Confirmed, or Confirmed. When something is posted as a rumor it may be just that a rumor and nothing else. Its not like no one on here has ever posted a rumor before. Also seeing that Screamscape has teamed up with Dollywood shows you that apparently at least one park is willing to think that its a worthy site. Mind you Dollywood seems to be one of the quickest to announce their new attractions.
  16. hmm... everything sounds good.... like many i wish they would of kept it fearfest but this looks like it will be better than ever before. A few things I noticed though it says from 7pm-1am but then if you look at the parks calander it says on Saturdays it would be from 12pm-1am and says Nick or Treat and Halloween Haunt..... so hopefully they will be open that long for saturdays. That would sure make it more worth me driving 5 hours to get there. Another thing on the Halloween Haunt main page is a coaster that I don't think exists at Kings Island. So what I was thinking is that maybe this could be a teaser for next year or just that it's more of a generic use everywhere image.
  17. Thanks to ScreamScape i found this http://www.olesouthusa.com which by the beginning looks of it seems like a great possibility. I know personally I am hoping and praying for the Nashville area to get something since the demise of Opryland. I just wanted to hear what everyone else thought about this proposed park.
  18. Have you had a chance to ride a topple tower? I'm not sure about the one at marine land but Timber Tower at Dollywood.... hmm it's cool to look at but thats really about it. There really isn't a scare or thrill factor to it in my opinion. I heard it best described as sitting in rocking chair and leaning back and forth a little more than usual while turning. IMHO I've had scarier and better times in an actual rocking chair. Not to mention that Timber Tower has been plaqued with problems it has been closed more than it's been open this year.
  19. saddly i would say it's been about 3 years since i've to Kings Island for Fearfest..... that's when SOB was still loopy and it would of been my last chance to ride it as it was.... i have been to ki since just not for fearfest.... speaking of fearfest i wish Dollywood would do something.... you know how scary some hillbilly's can be..... shew i know i would be scared.... i always try to find the creepiest haunted house in the most redneck towns...
  20. I just checked out the hearse.... seems like a pretty cool promotional gimmick.... personally I think they should have several.... perhaps they could even take it to a hill somewhere and park and let a casket roll out as a big publicity stunt.... on a side note i noticed on the thrill ride list for Fearfest Son of Beast isn't listed... i know the last time I went to FearFest there was a sign that it was closed for winter rehab.... is this the "norm"?
  21. Okay so what your saying is that if it fits those two requirements at least to a large group (which it does even if its not you) and the arbitary elements are there and on an on I would have a good theory.... thanks for supplying me that definition I guess I might just never had known without your sweet and sincere kindness..... listen I'm gonna drop this really it's not worth the time really it's not... all I was trying to convey in my opinion and many other's a true wooden coaster has both wooden tracks and a wooden structure.... sure your absolutely right that the industry likes to label Voyage and similar coasters as a wooden coaster.... IMHO i think thats more to convey the difference between them and the steel coasters most think of..... I don't think Voyage should be in the same category as Vortex I just don't think it should be in the same category as Beast either.... there is major differences in the way the coaster rides.... that's all i'm saying if the technical term for the industry isn't hybrid I think there should be another category.... and I hope that you all can realize that this is my opinion and i'm not trying to change yours..... this is just a topic i've discussed in great length with many of my friends and they agree with me that while similar it is different... that's all i was really saying is that it's different.......... if you don't like that vote for communism next go round... because dear i'm entitled to think that Voyage isn't a true wooden coaster.... and also I don't have to think just because a wooden coaster has some metal bracing that it falls into the same jurisdiction.... i'm sorry it just don't..... anywho that's about all i have to say about that
  22. a few steel supports here and there is a far bit different then the entire structure don't ya think
  23. okay well the theory is that a theory please look up the definition of a theory before you say mine is wrong.... i do however agree with you that they have labeled Voyage a wooden coaster.... i just merely feel that its not a true "wooden coaster"..... come on think about it wood and steel flex, expand, etc in different ways.... these do affect the way a coaster travels on it's tracks whether it be steel or wood..... now yes maybe rcdb and other people consider a steel structure with wooden track a wooden coaster..... you think the man behind the Coney Island Cyclone would look at the Voyage and say that they were the same type of coaster.... no i just feel that they should be in different categories....
  24. okay yes i am very aware there are great coasters outside of Ohio. Oh my goodness becky why didn't I know that. Anywho look at my avatar and my location.... it's not ohio. So you say Voyage is a wooden coaster with steel supports..... let me see if you take an electric engine and put it with a gas engine you get a hybrid engine.... so why wouldnt it work when you take a wooden track and put it on a metal structure.... see it's the same theory.... the structure makes a difference in the ride experience ie: sob... so i would in no way call Voyage a true wooden coaster.... i just don't think it fits the criteria
  25. just to clarify I didn't say that we all know that The Beast is the best wooden roller coaster..... I said it was at night. That's really my opinion (and many others) but I love it when you go racing through the woods and just cant see where your going. They could do some really cool fear fest stuff on it. IMHO I don't think Beast is the best if you were only counting daytime rides for that I think Thunderhead is the best (but i've yet to ride voyage). For me though while thinking about it I really don't consider Voyage a true wooden coaster it's mostly steel. What are some other opinions on the whole hybrid thing. (BTW if KI ever decides to build a hybrid coaster it should be called "Metal Beast" or "Altered Beast" and hey maybe they could bring a loop or two)
