  1. They didn't upgrade, just inspected the cables to make sure similar wear wasn't happening on them. They may have altered the inspection schedule, but I'm not so sure that would have been made public.
  2. I'm thinking he meant Canada's Wonderland... although pictures have yet to surface, several, and I mean several people have reported seeing steel coaster supports at a few locations thougout the park. The didn't purchase Americana from a manufacturer, it came from Geauga Lake when they closed to ride park.
  3. Yep. The prices things went for at that auction were absurd (I was there). They did have to dismantle the slides themselves, but still what a deal!
  4. At Wyandot Lake they were Zuma Falls (tan) and The Jet Stream (black). They are both made for single/double tubes. The Jet Stream, in particular, was an awesome ride. Mostly in pitch black, except one segment where you felt like you were going to pop right off the slide. Zuma Falls was an open slide with lots of extra water features. I'll be interested to see how they operate when reopened, as Six Flag's maintenance at Wyandot Lake was abysmal.
  5. Great article... I actually read this in the paper first thing this morning. I wish he would have touched on more than 3 coasters, but I understand the constraint of length. I do particularly love this line: Priceless!
  6. Having gotten in 9 rides yesterday at Media Day, it exceeded all of my expectations. The speed was awesome, especially after things warmed up in the afternoon. The layout and pacing are exceptional, and the overall look of the area is PERFECT. The P&D crew did an amazing job freshening up Rivertown without ruining it. You really have to see it to believe it. Also, the timeshare sales shack over across from LaRosa's has been turned into a satellite Diamondback shop, which is super smart, considering it's right by the splashdown.
  7. http://www.10tv.com/live/content/local/sto...se.html?sid=102 Altough the Dispatch story is good, you should go with the station that broke the story! (my screenname is WSYXnewsguy, but I've been at WBNS for more than a year now)
  8. ...wait, there's facades coming from GL now? I wasn't informed of this! Well, it was a seeming wild rumor when we first heard of it, but the map has me perplexed. I think if there is any additional work over there, we'll see it soon. 5 days is all they have before Friday's preview!
  9. Rivertown. If you look on the map, it shows little facade extensions from the corners of Rivertown Junction. I know the map isn't 100% accurate, but I don't see a reason why they were sketched in there if there's not going to be something there. With the queue going along side the restaurant, I'd hope they'd dress it up a bit. The backside of foodservice locations aren't typically very attractive. Remember: Last fall, those at the Geauga Lake auction were told that the western storefronts and facades were being taken to KI for their new ride. I know it seems silly, but most of those were built like theatrical sets, so it is definately doable.
  10. A few of my favorites from last summer...
  11. What a great find! Thank you so much for sharing. This is the way I remember the park as a kid. And MAN, I forgot how cool the sign for The Beastie was!
  12. Something I pointed out on the now-deleted thread, if you zoom into the Rivertown Junction, it looks like there are 'flats' added to each side of the building... I'm invisioning western store-fronts maybe? I remember the rumor from the Geauga Lake Auction that some of the store fronts were being taken to Kings Island for Rivertown. Not that transporting full-sized store fronts makes sense, but, as someone who builds and transports full-sized sets for theater and tv, it could easily be done.
  13. I'd hate to buy you Christmas gifts, if you're that ungrateful. CF has been making improvements in all the former Paramount Parks, and I think they've done a great job with them. KD: Dominator, Americana, El Dorado, and a rumored B&M for 2010 or 2011. KI: Firehawk, Diamondback CW: Behemoth Cw: Carolina Cobra, rumored B&M for 2010 GA: Tried to add a GCI Woody, delayed indef. Really, KD has gotten the most out of the former Paramount Parks, and that's not even including the massive expenditure that new trains for Volcano. In a down economy, with a company under a massive debt load, their capital expenditures are just fine. I know it's easy to want everything for your park. What last park was a fanyboys dream of new rides? Look no further than the Geauga Lake/SFWoA debacle. They added a B&M Floorless, Vekoma flyer, Intamin Impulse, and CCI woody in 2 years. Any fanboy's dream. What happened? The overexpansion, which was found across Six Flags parks, caused huge debt and problems in the park because infastructure did not keep up with attendance. Growth done the right way comes slowly, with proper planning and due dilligence. All in good time... you'll get the next headliner.
  14. Not at all, other than the rear seats of each are both raised. The DB trains have read seats that extend away from the chassis, so the front seats are not in front of the rear seats at all.
  15. Didn't Mr. Kinzel say they were interested at creating resort destinations at the former Paramount Properties? If the price is right for the business, never say never.
  16. I'm Ross Musick, 1 of, well, 1. Feel free to add.
  17. http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/hrp-...D&dist=hppr HRP closed for season, plans to file for Bankruptcy. "Plans" to open again for 2009.
  18. "Coral track with teal supports." This was the new paint scheme it was supposed to get last year at Geauga. Just thought that was interesting.
  19. What is this? A coaster for ants??? It needs to be, at least 3 times this size!
  20. The invitations to the event, as well as the blueprints posted to the Dayton paper identify the project as "Rivertown 2009 Project." And, as has been said here many times, Rivetown is a turn of the century depection of life along the Ohio River. The question is, do the people in CF Planning and Design know that?
