OK, for those of you who are employess of the park, or industry insiders who may know this information, I came up with three questions about 2 rides while at the park yesterday. First of all, while in the rear car of the red Racer train, I noticed 2 seatbelt receptacles attached to the back of the car in front of me. What purpose do those serve? the only thing I could come up with was that they are extra parts... but then I wondered why they would be kept there as opposed to under the operators control console for instance. My second question has to do with The Beast's lift hill chain on the first lift. Is there any particular reason it goes incredibly slow, then picks up speed for 6 feet, then slows down again before the release at the top other than the "impending doom" factor? My third question has to do with the trims. Would The Beast feasibly run safely and be able to handle the stresses of operating without the trims on the first drop and the next subsequent drop? I found myself saying to myself "Man Id Love to ride this without those two trims!!" every single time I got on yesterday. Now I know in today's World of every Business owner in America being terrified by and cowering to Insurance companies and Law Firms it will never happen.... but as I said my question is simply could it run safely?

Yep, I was there also from 10:30am until about 6:00pm and I must concur that yesterday was GREAT as far as not having crowds to deal with. From 10:38am until 12:10pm I rode FOF, Firehawk, Vortex, and Beast all one time before getting some lunch.... and this time frame also included walking up to a closed BLSC to inquire about an opening time, a 12 MINUTE LOAD/UNLOAD TIME on Firehawk, a leisurely stroll around the Rivertown side on my way to Guest Relations, and a walk back to Chick-Filet. From that point on, until 6pm when I left, I rode Flight Deck once, Racer 3 more times, FOF 3 more times, BLSC twice, Vortex 3 more times, Scrambler once, and Beast 3 more times. Kawana, as far as Sunday goes.... good luck Brother on decent wait times on a Sunday.

How long would you wait to ride your favorite roller coaster?
IBEW_Sparky replied to coaster lover's topic in KI Polls
Yep, 30 minutes, MAYBE 45 absolute max for me nowadays. We went Sunday, I took one lap around the park, discovered the lines for FOF, Firehawk, Vortex, Beast, and BLSC ranged anywhere from 1 hour to 1:45.... and we let. Im going tomorrow so I can actually ride the rides I like more than once in the entire day. that is the number 2 reason I wont renew my passes next year. Ive discovered that my time is too important to me to justify 2 to 3 hours for a 3 minute ride. -
Holiday to add something big....
IBEW_Sparky replied to a topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Im betting he is referring to the space needle or whatever its called that was "purchaced" at the GL auction for $12,500 and then "re-sold" on E-Bay for 50 large. -
Do Gold or Platinum Pass holders have to pay an upcharge to stay for HH? I know it was briefly discussed previously, but I do not recall ever seeing a definitive answer to the question.

Ahhhhh saweeet... thought it ran all weekend. Thanks for the heads up

Geauga Lake Double Loop
IBEW_Sparky replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I have been thinking about this and reading the responses... and here are my thoughts. First of all, I had a lot of "firsts" at GL with my Family so for me to say Im a little pi$$ed about how the powers that be (soon not to be) B.Sed everyone up until even the last day that "We have no plans to close the ride side of Geauga Lake" would be the understatement of the Millenium. Now having said that... I most definitly agree that SF went a bit ape in the matters of coaster expansion likely in a poorly executed attempt to be a CF killer as has been said. As far as a personal idea of how GL could have been saved goes, well here is my thought and opinion that may or may not have worked. Liquidate the former Sea World side of the park, and relocate a few of the flats (Scrambler, Spider, Pirate Ship) and possibly the motion sim theater to the ride side. Refurbish the existing water park as needed as opposed to spending a load of cash creating WWK. Finally, evaluate the safety and feasibility of keeping RWB post-incident and remove if deemed necessary, and if the decision is made to remove it, use the space for a few more flats to keep its quaint small park image somewhat intact. Like I said, this may have worked, or it may have tanked like WWK is going to... just some personal thoughts from someone who lost a little of himself on 9/16/07. -
OK, I have a question for those of you who have been around for a while, or even last year as far as that goes. I am faced with a two option scenario here.... go to KI this Sunday, or wait till August 16th to go again due to a very busy summer schedule. I REALLY want to go Sunday..... but with Spirit Song going on I am leery of the crowds. Will this be anywhere near as horrendous as it was on Memorial Day or will it be pretty much like any other weekend crowd? I can deal with an hour or so wait to ride..... but 2 to 3 hours is just not my style for a 3 minute ride. Thanks in advance everyone :-)

Oh NO!! Look out!! There in the back its.... The Great Milenko!!!

From the brochure I got today for my 25 minute visit to the park (I have absolutely zero desire to deal with 2+ hour waits for EVERY decent ride... an hour and 15 for Backlot for Gods sake) it states "NOTE: Guests are not permitted to videotape or otherwise record Robbie Knievel's jump, in whole, or part, without Robbie Knievel's written permission. Any footage or reproduction ofthe jump is intended to and shall belong solely yo Robbie Knievel." Now in saying this, will there be vids taken? Of course there will... my suggestion is tbe be VERY sure to on YouTube within an hour tops of the jump to see any vids posted before they are pulled. I should have just hung here in Indy till about 330 or 4 and went down just for the jump.... oh well, lesson learned and KI/CF got me for $20 for the VIP grandstand seats I bought and didnt use.

My Wife and I will be there as well.

darn right..... they ABSOLUTELY need to file 13 the "ride operator may ask you to go to the end of the line" and replace it with "ride operator WILL notify security or other Official to remove you from the park immediately with no refund or chance for re-entry". If they need cameras and CCTV monitors to do it... so be it. I paid $150 bucks a piece for 2 Platinum Passes as did a lot of you Im sure and I figure if I/we are going to give CF that kind of dough they should good and well do everything in their power to take a pro-active step against this garbage. To a group of know-it-all 12-16y/o kids, the risk of getting caught and sent to the back of the line (BFD) is worth the risk. Losing out on the cash for the ticket... or shall I say Mommy and Daddys cash when they have to go to Guest Relations and have them paged to leave the park... isnt worth it.

I was waiting to get offloaded from BLSC Saturday the 26th, when the kid sitting next to me said to one of his buddies in the Mini in front of us "Dude, did we loop in the building? I think we did!!"

OK, I agree with you Interp about CF being in at best marginally better shape at this time than SF, but I stll say DK would do ANYTHING it takes... including cutting corners at exisiting parks... to further Monopolize the industry. Remember when TTD was built, and he was quoted as saying "That will show SF:WOA!" The man does not like competition from any angle and if there is any way possible to reduce/eliminate it he will IMHO. As a small scale example of this, simply walk along the queue line for FD and look at how the Top Gun themeing was ripped out of the ground and the holes where the sign posts used to be, along with the conduits for the lighting of said signage are still shabbily remaining. What would it have cost to fill the holes with dirt and make it look presentable, maybe a grand total??

Yeah, there were a LOT of things I wanted to wave the B.S. flag on in that interview.... R.I.P. Geauga Lake. Another one was the statement related to buying any parks in the near future. I am willing to bet he would do WHATEVER it takes to get ahold of Six Flags when their financial woes become dire next year or in 2010.

Drop Tower, Delirium, Crypt, SOB are mine.

I will be there as well, from probably 11 till 9 or so. I will be wearing either a blue and white long sleeved Polo shirt, or a Tony Stewart 2008 Fan Club t shirt... depending on time of day/how warm it ends up getting. I may also have my Black with orange flames #20 hat on, and will be mostly in the area(s) of X-Base, Vortex, Beast, BLSC, or the construction site. Other than Invertigo, I dont have much use for the Action Zone side of the park. If ya see me, dont hesitate to say hi.... i hate standing in lines alone and my Wife doesnt ride. Scott

YYZ and Red Barchetta are perfect choices. I was trying to think of a good car song for BLSC and I was coming up with "I cant Drive 55" by Sammy Hagar, but when I read that choice it trumped it big time! And sorry, but in the 3 years Ive been going to KI, and from what I have seen/experienced with S.O.B..... the best choice by far for it is "Piece of S**t Car" by Adam Sandler.

Demon Drop gone from CP?
IBEW_Sparky replied to IBEW_Sparky's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I am glad its not going (yet) and I agree 100% about LOVING to see it at KI... though that wont happen. I had my first experience on an Intamin Drop at Geauga Lake (R.I.P) when Mr Hyde's Nasty Fall was in operation..... and BOY do i wish I would have had the cojones to ride one of those sooner. -
Here here to another tryingouta new camera... Fuji S700! I am definiely looking forward to going on Beast at night (a first for me as this will only be my 3rd season at KI) as I have heard it is an awesome experience. Donnie, if you are going on Opening Day, I would like to meet up with you or as far as that goes any of the members here. I HATE wating in line/riding alone on rides and it would be great to have like-minded people to spend the day with.

Hey, I was just looking at the rides for sale site that was associated with Interpretors post about Blue Diamond Park and I saw a Gen1 Intamin Drop ride posted there. When I looked at the bigger pics, I saw it clearly said Demon Drop on the ride. is this just a stock photo the site uses for that ride or did CP drop the Drop? I figured some of you CP fans would know.

Wow, I had no idea that park even existed... so it is with newly entering the realm of "enthusiast" and leaving the realm of "rider" I guess LOL. The Rumbler looks sweet, and one question I have is why anyone would be "disgruntled" about POV shots as long as the park ops dont get bent out over it. You grab your camera phone, snap a pic going up the lift hill (for instance) and put the camera phone back in your pocket... BFD, no harm. The only type of coaster I could see it being an issue on IMHO is a LIM coaster.

HI everyone, first time poster here, found the site Monday on a Google search for info on Opening day... GREAT site and Im glad I found this. As for the topic at hand, I agree about freefall rides like DZ and the like.... I can't ride em because being that high in the air and held with nothing around me scares the s__t outta me. I DO however Love the first gens like DD because I am sitting IN a car and feel a lot safer. As far as the aforementioned maintainance issues are concerned, does anyone know if CP happened to purchace any of the parts from the one that was dismantled in Texas, or are they going to just run it till they A)run out of spare parts from Mr Hyde's or B)sell it?
