  1. Screenshots from Kings Island's snapchat today:
  2. I think that it's just with each successive generation, the need to feel like you need to "run through the wall" for an employer diminishes somewhat. What was expected of me when I got my first time part-time jobs 25 years ago is much different than now. And what the expectations of my parent's generation was much different than mine...and their parents' (WWII generation) was a completely different situation, as well. My grandpa quit school in the 5th grade in the 1920's to go to work to help support his eight brothers and sisters...
  3. I read a great book about the development of WDW (I think it was called "Married to the Mouse"). Evidently, Disney World almost ended up in St. Louis. Here is an online article I found about it, as well: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/travel/attractions/the-daily-disney/os-walt-disney-world-almost-in-st-louis-20151207-story.html
  4. I suspect this issue is closely related to the food service issue. Kings Island must need employees a lot more than they need it. I would imagine it would be tough to manage people in that situation. The park may be happy that the employees actually show up to fill positions in the first place, and the desire to have them act a certain way probably comes in a distant second. Kings Island is not the only organization with this problem.
  5. Just think...that clip above was made when Kings Island was under construction. Hey, maybe this new "attraction" will be themed to the early 70's - when Kings Island was built! Only music from the early 70's would be played! Maybe it will actually be called "Carpenters"...carpenters do work with wood, after all...
  6. Distinguishing a lit match is a lot easier than a full-blown blaze...sometimes its hard to know which match will catch fire. Better safe than sorry. -KIFan73, who works in education.
  7. That would be sort of like overhauling the entrance to Kings Island. I mean, what could go wrong??
  8. I think this is where Jan lost the plans: I've contacted the park to find out when we're going to learn what's in those plans. No response so far. I think they're hiding something.
  9. I have to agree. I think Kings Island has done a good job with the park over the years, overall, but it's tough to look at some of those older pics!
  10. Wow, the comments!! Not good, at all. **edit: there are many more than what are shown in the pic above....
  11. I think, from this angle, it's really easy to see a green/blue coaster fitting in well...even WindSeeker matches.
  12. First, you have to be glad the kid is OK. Second, I really feel for the zoo workers on this. What a tough, but obvious, choice (a "when all else fails" plan they most likely had trained for) they had to make with an animal they have cared for for so long.
  13. If you go to 5:10 of this great video, you can see how they originally marked trees for removal:
  14. Here is a link ( http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/23218-ptr-10105/ ) to a post I made with pics from a trip I made in October 2005 to see what the park looked like with a mix of FearFest and Winterfest prep going on....
  15. It has definitely gotten lost in all of the decoding and speculation, but WOW, White Water Canyon is getting a new entrance and queue! If not for getting completely lost in the midst of other developments, it's actually significant news (especially for fans of WWC).
  16. Strange enough, I've found it to be almost impossible to buy something at the Sweet Spot. Twice last year, and once this year, the employees were in a constant conversation between each other, and it was almost impossible to get their attention to get them to wait on me. Twice, I've had to just lay down what I was going to purchase and leave.
  17. Thanks! 99.9% of the time that I visit the park, I am turning left. However, I stayed in Mason for the Gold Pass Preview night last month, and have only entered the new entrance from the south.
  18. Is there a light at the intersection if you are turning left (travelling south) on Kings Island Drive? If so, does it have a leading green left turn signal?
  19. And if my memory is correct, it still had wild animals nearby, as well.
  20. You have to cringe at the banner they put across for the news story above "Don't Waste Your Money; Kings Island Amusement Park". Probably not what the park was hoping for when they added a new entrance.
  21. This may have been brought up in the last 75 pages, but could the "falling trees" (Timber!!!), have anything to do with these? http://www.gravitykraft.com/timberliner/
  22. I just hope there were some very sound reasons why they needed to change the entrance. The entrance to a world class amusement park that has managed to stay alive since 1972 isn't something that should be taken lightly, and hopefully it wasn't. An issue that I wonder about from the one time that I've used the entrance is the length. With the entry lanes so long, it would allow for people to really gain some speed before they reach the tolls, allowing for those people with less than good judgement to "jockey" for position.
