TombRaiderFTW Your apology is not accepted because you have no reason to apologize. In fact I should apologize for using a poor example on my part, afterwards I thought Oh-no someone is going to think I was talking about them. I was just tiring to get in on the conversation and to encourage members to not hold back on their hopes and desires for the park.
I absolutely understand, and I'm really grateful to have a very active admin that goes out of his way to promote such things.
I didn't mean to sound like I was taking that personally, and I again apologize for the misunderstanding! You certainly don't owe me an apology. I just like to point out the opposing arguments and silver linings in the name of fairness, because it's very easy sometimes to get stuck analyzing things from a single perspective. (I know I'm guilty of it!) I do absolutely agree that a lot of people, in the same way, like to post "quit your whining" posts after anything's announced, and that really shuts out a lot of people that would otherwise share their opinions in this community. I just wanted to make sure that people knew that I didn't mean to shut them out--just that there are good things to be said about every addition that sometimes go unnoticed. No hard feelings?

Actually, I think those are the wooden "towers" (can't think of any other way to describe them) that are usually spread through Tombstone Terror-tory and CornStalkers. Scareactors usually hide inside them or just on the other side of them.

This is the Rumors section and I see nothing wrong with members speculating and hoping for an attraction on their personal wish list for Kings Island. I mean it is human nature for all of us to do this with our-self, so why not share it and disappointment well that is a fact of life. It is only bad when some take disappointment to far on expressing it or when those who do not understand the difference between ones hope disappointment versus the ones who get nasty about their disappointment. Take for example Holiday Worlds new Water Slide for 2012 many enthusiast where disappointed that it was not another type of attraction they had hoped for and some of them expressed that in their own way (which in the enthusiast world this was no surprise) but I do not think I saw one way over the top. Shortly after here came the "why is everyone so upset" or You can not please the enthusiast for nothing" comments. I feel those blow back comments are as misguided as the accusations they make. Now if someone was bashing the park harshly and threatening not go back to the park then I think blow back comments are warranted.
I have no problem reading what others hope for and enjoy speculating about the possibilities and the likelihood of some of them.
I have wanted to see a major expansion for Boomerang Bay for years and asked about it here and at events. Always maybe next season but right now other parts of the park is needing enhancements and we support that move. So yes I have been disappointed year after year considering my family is a huge water park family but I did not get nasty about it but just Moved On.
So I REALLY REALLY hope it is an expansion in some form at Boomerang Bay next year......AGAIN!
I do agree with you, Avatar. I know I'm obviously guilty of being providing "why is everyone upset" comments in the Holiday World 2012 thread, but I do see it your way as well. I don't usually post that sort of comment; the difference was that, to me, it seemed like it was beyond just being hopeful about what ride would go into HW next year. People, even outside of KIC, were reading so much into what they wanted to see in HW's hints that the park didn't have much of a chance to make anyone happy... Enthusiast opinion left them with installing either a steel spinning coaster or a HUSS frisbee.
So when it wasn't either of those, so many people had nothing positive to say about Mammoth that it was a little irritating. Holiday World is my favorite park, and so many people were breathing a frustrated sigh that I felt the need to say, "Hey, is another water coaster really that bad? It's going to shorten the lines, at least..." I'm not saying that that entitles me to any snark that might have snuck into the post, and I do apologize if I was rude. It just seems like there's a silver lining to every expansion that gets shrugged off since it wasn't the [insert coaster type here] coaster that everyone was convinced the park was getting.
That being said, I'm with you on a Boomerang Bay expansion. I'm not much of a waterpark type of guy, but it's a part of the park that has received little to no love in, what, seven years? (When was the Waterworks to BB conversion?) It seems like just about anything they put in there would help them out.

Geez! When it rains on parks this year, it really pours. On the other hand... really? Such coverage about a chain breaking? Did Vortex get such coverage? (Then again, Vortex didn't have a fatality just a month earlier...)

I believe what you are seeing is the area where they set off the fireworks, it's been there for years.
Or at least that's the only thing I can think of off the top of my head, that I've seen over there. That would be cool if it was parts for a new ride though!
I can confirm this after riding WindSeeker today. There aren't any new coaster pieces showing up back there, unfortunately.

As of last weekend, several small red lights have been added to the room before The Bat. They're mixed along the skeletons on either side of the room, and it makes either side of the room glow softly red. It's a very nice touch that illuminates the skeletons that were frankly easy to miss before.
As of today, the two dog demon-whatsits to either side of The Bat have also had red lights installed beneath them, causing them to glow and, y'know, actually be visible now. Haha. Also, the goddess is now illuminated with light blue lights (which I am assuming used to color the icicles on TRTR) that pulse/flicker a bit when the gondola switches directions. It's a very noticeable change--I heard several people mention how they expected her to do something on my one ride today. And frankly, since they're illuminating her, my inner fanboy does wonder if they plan on turning her back on... But I'm probably getting way ahead of myself.
Keep up the awesome work, KI!

Ouch! If this sticks, I think I've had my last year as a Platinum passholder. My interest in Cedar Point (which was my primary reasoning in going Platinum back in '08) has been waning as I experience other parks, and I haven't had and won't have a good opportunity to visit any other CF parks besides KI for quite some time. I hope they do the "buy a regular season pass, get a free gold upgrade" deal this fall... I really loathe paying for parking.
That sounds a little whinier than I mean to sound. I'm not complaining as much as I'm just saying that I think this will do me in.

^ Thank you!
This makes sense now, so I can definitely see how it's probably a B&M. Given the acclaim this thing's getting before it's even announced, I'd say it's going to be something unprecedented for B&M... Maybe the long-rumored rotating seats on the wing rider model will make their premiere?

Way to go! I like the new forum. It feels very modern compared to the older version.
Just one question: it seems as though my animated .gif avatar bit the dust along the way. I've still got it saved, but the new forum won't let me re-upload it. Are animated .gifs no longer supported?
-
I guess I'm not really seeing the connection to B&M... My first reaction to those supports was that they reminded me a lot of I305's station supports. Not to mention that they just got Behemoth, but I suppose they could always be going to for a different model. And do we know for sure that Dollywood is getting a B&M?

Null vote. I love Diamondback's (relative) smoothness and insane ejector in the back row on the first drop, but I prefer my coasters with a little more than repeated floater and a few turns. I love Beast's classicness, but (I hate to say this again, but) it just isn't running very well this year, in my opinion. (On the immediate exit from the first pass through the helix tunnel, I swear you can see the track deformations while riding in the front row. If not, sit in the back and watch the entire train lurch as it leaves the tunnel... Don't forget to brace yourself!)

The part that gets me is that the pre-off-season, the week and a half every September that KI closes to the public, is next month. When the heck did that happen?! It seems like the park just opened yesterday!

Maybe I have weird music tastes, but "Knights of Cydonia" by Muse absolutely screams Maverick to me.

Thought I'd revive this to hear everyone's opinion...
I've yet to see the fog screen effect turned on this year; the closest it's been is just hearing the voice on opening day. However, the "car" always seemed to turn like it was going to feature the fog screen, i.e., it made a 90 degree left turn from the staircase scene, pointed that way for a bit, then made the rest of the left turn to point towards the flashing machines. When I was at KI on Friday, the ride lingered in pointing at the staircase scene, then made the full turn towards the flashing machines. The "trying to drive me from my home" audio hasn't played since opening day. Am I crazy, or has anyone else noticed this, too?
On that note, has anyone actually seen the fog screen this year? And if not, does anyone else think this is the last we've seen of the fog for the indefinite future?

^ I believe that's Steel Dragon 2000 at Nagashima Spaland in Japan. I've read it had extensive downtime around 2006 due to a wheel failure (i.e., the train chucked a wheel that flew into their waterpark). As I understand it, it has since reopened.
-
^ Given how the ride's been running this year, in my opinion, they better hope it doesn't get beastly like The Beast!
-
I've noticed that many people, upon noticing that a ride is down, assume that it was down for the whole day and then complain about it, not realizing that it probably opened soon after they left.
"Do y'all know when the Inverterger is gonna open?"
Well, that's just ridiculous...
...Usually, they call it "Faceoff" and then proceed to ask who died on it and caused it to close.

The Beast(1) vs. Millennium Force(2)

^ I want to laugh, but, my gosh! That's the most disturbing thing I've ever heard happening between guests on a roller coaster. I would have been silently freaking out. I imagine you probably were yourself.
Guess my story about once being stuck with a less-than-sober man on The Beast who loudly announced, multiple times, that he was going to throw up (when he wasn't elbowing me and calling me "pal") is a little less effective now...
-
^ That will suck! I'm never going to Kings Island again. After all these hints they've dropped about it being an Aquatrax*, how could they possibly shaft us with a Volare?! They should have put something in the waterpark! The Dippin' Dots guy told me there would be something in the waterpark!
*Of which there have been just as many as there have been steel coaster hints from Holiday World, too!

Done!
Hope you guys win.

Thanks for the update!
I really appreciate the fact that people are taking the time to update each other about The Crypt's improvements... especially this year, when I haven't been able to go to KI nearly as much as I'd like.
As discussed in the "Ride Improvements to The Crypt" thread, they're actually Tomb Raider's old lava LED lights. Originally, they served to give the lava in the rockwork the color of... well, lava. Since there's no more water in there, they now just serve as several rows of lava-colored lights.
Hey, it's an improvement over "plaster you to the seat with mind-numbing flips in a giant garage"-Crypt from 2008...

That could be horrific. One small glitch, and you have an enclosed building with 56 people already tied to a spit.
No thanks on real flames.
Right. Like on the Mummy. Or Backdraft. Or The Italian Job: Stunt Track. Or JAWS! Haha.
Kings Dominion's Crypt and the similar Firefall at Great America hold riders over fire (or, cleverly disguised to appear that way to onlookers). But yeah, that would probably require a lot of re-coding the building and re-ventilating. It would be expensive. If our Giant Top Spin were replaced with a newer suspended Top Spin or something with a wild program and better reliability, I can see money being put into the ride. As is, I doubt any sizable investment will ever be set aside for The Crypt when - as was mentioned - it's not exactly a crowd pleaser. But who knows what the new head of the company has planned...
Given the constant propane stank hovering around Kings Dominion's outdoor Crypt, I'd guess the likelihood of our indoor Crypt getting real fire is about as likely as The Beast opening with no trims and new Timberliners tomorrow.
Truthfully, I doubt Ouimet's going to take a personal interest in the ride. The fanboy in me wants to think, working for Disney, he would have heard of the Disney-comparable ride experience of Tomb Raider and have discussed in board meetings any sort of Disney "response" to the ride (in the form of a comparable or competitive experience). Realistically, even if that did happen, I'm pretty sure any personal interest in the ride is going to be significantly diminished when he hears about its horrendous downtime. I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer; the ride is simply a money pit at times.

^^^ Honestly? No, I'm not surprised. It's like no coaster enthusiast site is complete without rampant complaining about the quality of future attractions... which is one of the saddest things about them*. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the park could have added nothing. That thought should be especially effective when talking about Holiday World... The place changes something every year. KI fans are pleasantly surprised when something noticeable changes more often than every 2 to 3 years.
On that note, the park *did* add things for this year. GYK's right about Mammoth and the Halloween event being for 2012, but this year did bring general park improvements that were based on guest's requests. They replaced a kids' ride with a similar model that better fits the Christmas theme and modified several buildings to better accommodate guests. The Plymouth Rock Cafe had its seating area enclosed and air conditioned, the front gate was modified to increase throughput, a series of children's waterslides were added, and (I think) more lockers were added in a more convenient part of the waterpark. They're not strictly ride additions to the dry park, per se, but they are improvements that aren't only water rides. In fact, I'd argue that these sorts of "additions" every once in a while could almost be a better PR move than trying to push how big and fast a new ride is--to me, it says, "We're not only focused on pulling annual visitors in. We know we have our regulars, and we care about their wants."
I will say, to the benefit of those who want another steel coaster at Holiday World... I do still think either a family-friendly coaster to bridge the gap between Howler and Raven would fit very nicely. A smaller (i.e., a Maurer Sohne or B&M) looper would also fit very well, seeing as how Indiana has an odd lack of inversions that the GP does seem to want out of their parks.
*Especially when, lately, they've almost always been wrong about them. Remember how Carowinds' Intimidator was going to absolutely blow I305 out of the water?

^ For some reason, Chrome's got an awful beef with Queen City Discovery's photos... As far as Kaspersky Antivirus's been able to tell over the course of several months, there's nothing malicious coming out of the site. I think it's being a bit overprotective in this case.
