  1. Yes talking to the ride ops seems to be a good idea and also the idea of keeping the phone number to security to make annonymous calls was a much better idea. As I said I didn't realize the proper procedure was to alert the ride ops until after we spoke with the security guard. Half of the group actually line jumped in between two que sections where the "no line jumping" sign is located. It would be helpful if the "no line jumping" sign gave directions on what to do if somone is line jumping. I've said on here before that I don't think it would be cost effective for the park to hire staff to watch the lines to make sure no one jumps. I think the line jumpers are so confident because they know the majority of people feel helpless in confronting them or reporting them. People think, "I don't like that they cut in line, but I don't want any trouble so I'll ignore it and hope someone else reports them." Which is fully understandable and I don't blame anyone for thinking that way. Perhaps a possible solution would be for the park to set up a line jumper repot line for guests to make annonymous tips on line jumpers or any trouble makers for that matter? Maybe security cameras on the lines for proof when there is a report? If the park knows this issue is creating violent situations then I would think they want to do something to prevent any more problems. And as for the comment about blaming the parents.. I agree 100%. The fact is that the same parents that don't care to teach their kids anything, including manners and self respect, are the parents that drop their kids off at the park for the day to get them out of their hair. All said though, the main reason I titled this post by questioning KI security was not because of the line jumping. It was because it seemed to me that the violent threats were not taken as seriously as they should have been. Especially when there were plenty of witnesses. I know it was a rather small, teenaged girl making the threats, but if the roles were reversed and I was threatening people - a 6'4" man over 200 lbs - I think they might have taken it more seriously. A small woman can cause just as much damage as I can if she decides to grab a weapon. But I could be wrong and if I've offended anyone by questioning the actions of KI security then I apologize. They were all very kind and just doing their jobs, but it just seems like there should be more they can do in these situations.
  2. correction: when i reffered to guest relations as "clueless" i didn't mean they are dumb. I meant they didn't have any answers for us in that situation.
  3. My wife and I went to KI today and for most of the day it was a really great time. It was a beautiful day outside and the park wasn't very busy. The lines were all short, so we were getting frustrated that even on a slow day there were tons of line jumpers! Why jump a short line?!?! At about 6pm we were getting in line for Diamondback. A group of 5 were walking infront of us, but then most of the group didn't get in the line. It was two teenage girls, two teenage boys, and a man in his early twenties. One girl said to the girl in the white shirt, "just get in line and hold our spot." As we were walking into the que I said to the girl in the white shirt, "you should wait with your friends because I'm not going to let that many people cut infront of me." She wouldn't look at me or talk to me. One by one they started cutting in front of me, my wife, and everyone behind us. With each line jumper I was trying to talk to the group and tell them that they were being incredibly rude, but not a single one would look at me or talk to me. Finally after the whole group had cut infront of us, and by this point 25 people behind us, I said to my wife, "I'm getting sick of people cutting in line on a day when the lines are really short." The girl in the white shirt, still refusing to even look at me, turned to her friend and said, "I'll cut infront of whoever I want and if he don't shut up about it I'm gonna go back there and smack him in the face." This got my wife all riled up. So she said, "ooo I'd like to see her try that." I didn't want the situation to escalate, so I said very loudly for all to hear, "No one's hitting anyone. I said what I had to say and now it's over." We heard other people talking about it in our favor, but of course no one would back us up. We went ahead and rode Diamondback and were even on the same train as that group. When we got off the ride there was a security gaurd outside of the gate and we told him the story. He said, "you should have told the attendant in the station that they cut in line and they would have been kicked off the ride." I said, "that's good to know, but I don't care about them cutting. I'm mad that she threatened to hit me." That snapped him into action, I pointed them out at the gift shop below and we started walking toward them. They saw us with the security guard and high tailed it out of there. He asked us to wait in the gift shop and went outside after them. A few minutes later he returned to the gift shop, walked right past us, didn't say anything or look at us, and walked right back out toward the Diamondback exit. We were like, "ok? what just happened? did he do anything? are they waiting out there to jump us now?" Then that girl and her friend came into the gift shop yelling at us for being "snitches" and threatening us again! I stopped my wife from tearing this girl into pieces and we walked out to find the security guard, who was standing right outside the door. We told him and he said, "what? I just told her to leave you two alone and to not start any more trouble. i can't believe she didn't listen to me." I saw the group making their escape down the midway toward the Crypt. I pointed them out, but instead of chasing them he called for backup. Another security guard and a park police officer showed up. None of them seemed to be concerned with finding the group, instead their main concern seemed to be calming us down and shutting us up. They essentially did nothing about it, but did tell us that "fights caused by line jumpers is becoming a really big problem and happens all the time." They said they would look for the group and give them a second warning, but i doubted them. We went to guest relations and they were totally clueless, but also admitted there had been more and more reports of arguements and physical fights caused by line jumpers. So they called the head of security over and I swear this guy was even less concerned than the other guards. I said, "we're just worried that we'll run into this group again and they'll start stuff with us again." He said, and i quote, "i guarantee they won't do that." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! I never thought those kids were actually going to hit anyone, but they can't walk around the park threatening to hit people so that they can cut in line!!! I'm not trying to knock the park or Cedar Fair or to scare anyone. This is a warning to all.. If someone cuts in line or threatens you in the park do not go to security because they will only make matters worse. Had we not told on them then the story would have ended with us riding Diamondback despite our frustration. I just can't believe they quickly and blatantly disreguarded the guard's warning (loudly in the middle of a gift shop) and they still weren't dealt with. Next time I go to KI I'll let anyone cut in front of me and keep my mouth shut.
  4. Went to KI yesterday and it was a great time. I planned to do a full trip report, but I didn't get as many interesting pictures as I had planned. So I'll post the good ones I got. Success! After several failed attempts I finally managed to snap a shot of the "welcome to ohio" sign as my wife was speeding past. Kinda silly, but I'm proud of it! We were running behind schedule and missed the ERT, but because of being late I got to get a picture of one of the skydivers as we arrived at the parking lot at around 10 am. This one had a KI flag. I saw one with an american flag but didn't get a pic. This guy was out all day in the hot sun wearing a halloween costume and face paint to promote the haunt. What a sport! Line jumpers exposed!! These two guys line jumped for SoB. I guess since their friend had already been waiting in line they felt that gave them the right to pass everyone else to meet their friends. Then when we got in the station I nonchalantly snapped a photo of them sitting on the hand rails. This of course was after the middle of the line ice cube fight. Total jerks, so I wanted to expose them! And for the most amusing moment of the day. My wife got SUPER star struck when she spotted Mia and her friend Aubrie from the show "taking the stage" on MTV while waiting in line for SoB. If you notice the guy in the white shirt is looking straight at the camera. Right after my wife took the picture he pointed at us and said something to Mia. I couldn't hear him, but by attempting to read his lips i believe he said something like "they spotted you up there." If you read this Mia... you have me to thank for keeping my wife from shouting "it's her! Sing me a song, Mia!" LOL That's all I have for photos. It was a busy day, but we managed to get a fair amount of rides plus a fair amount of down time. I rode Firehawk for the second time and changed my mind.. I hated it the first time, but now I LOVE IT! I also got my second ride on Diamondback which was fantastic. I rode KI&MVRR for the first time and rather enjoyed it. And I got my wife on congo falls for the first time and she hated it HAHA. I thought it was fun. We both set ride goals, which we both did not meet. Mine was to go 100% no hands, but SoB was tossing me around like a rag doll, I chickened out on the first Diamondback drop, and I clung on for life on Firehawk. Other than that I was hands free. My wife's goal was to do Diamondback no hands... She clung on the whole time, let go for the on-ride photo, then tried playing like she didn't hold on hahaha was a good time.
  5. It's not THAT bad. You won't walk away with broken bones or bruises. Aside from someone with a back or neck problem (who probably shouldn't ride coasters any), anyone who complains about it being too painful is being a wimp. I'll admit it's not a comfortable ride, but it's well worth it and definitely not the worst coaster on earth. Its not even the worst coaster in the park. Try the front seat of a car toward the middle of the train - that seems to be the smoothest spot.
  6. Well, aside from the absence of the racing fans (who surprisingly don't make up the majority of the population), anyone else have a guess how busy the park will be memorial day weekend? I know it will be busy, but if I'm looking at 2-3 hr wait times all day then I might not want to go. Any educated guess is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  7. I was planning a KI trip on sunday the 24th. I assume with all the events it will probably be a pretty busy day. Anyone have any guesses for what wait time might be like? I'm hoping the crowds flock to the events so that ride wait time won't be too bad.
  8. I do smoke and respect others, so I'm thankful for the areas where nonsmokers can choose not to be around smoke. With as many smoking areas as the park provides i think there should be a zero tolerance for smoking anywhere else. It's disrespectful and downright lazy to not walk to the nearest smoking area before lighting up. Last season i was smoking and someone walked up and asked for a cigarette. I gave her one and she said, "you know you don't really have to sit here. I walk around and smoke and they don't say anything to me." I said, "well they should." She rolled her eyes and walked right into the crowd smoking. It took a lot of restraint not to snatch that cigarette back out of her hand lol.
  9. I ended up alone on opening day as the rest of the people i was with was waiting in line for Diamondback. I walked up to the fence to talk to them and they urged me to hop the fence and wait with them. I looked around and didn't see any reason why i might be "dealt with" for doing so. Except for the couple hundred people i'd be cutting infront of, though I doubted they would form into an angry mob because of one line jumper. Despite the temptation, I replied "no thanks. This is the last place in the world where I'd want to break the rules and risk being kicked out." I don't think the park should spend extra money for line security. That's money that could be better spent to expand the park. I wish the honest people waiting in line would confront the line jumpers more regularly. But the problem is that most everyone fears the rest of the group won't back them up and they'll be left alone in confronting the cutter. The line jumper will most likely ignore a comment from one person, but if the majority of the line is telling the jumper to get to the back... he or she might actually go. unfortunately that will probably never happen.
  10. I wish that would have been announced in January. If I had known that I would have registered a long time ago. maybe it was announced and i missed it. oh well. Hope everyone has a great time and maybe I'll join you next year.
  11. No, nothing against the strangers. I'm sure most of them are very kind and intersting and I find Kings Island to be a very safe place. I just usually keep to myself when in public. If someone were to strike up a conversation with me of course I would talk to them, but I'm usually just not very talkative. I'm not stuck up or shy I just rarely think of things to say to people. There are many quiet people like me out there and while other people are talking we like to look at things like TV screens. haha
  12. Just because there are TVs doesn't mean you have to look at them. If you don't want to watch TV in line to make a long wait more barable, then you have the choice to look away. But some people like them. I personally like to throw on some headphones because after being with the same group of people all day it's easy to run out of things to talk about. And because I don't usually talk to strangers without the security blanket of an avatar picture and the backspace button.
  13. could be. I know at Halloween Haunt i went straight to Delerium and waited about 45 minutes to ride. The whole time I was watching soundless music videos, clips from horror films, and haunt promos. My wife remembers it too. Maybe the TVs were gone during the season and they put them back in for the haunt, but they were definitely there.
  14. There were 3 or 4 TVs in the Delerium que last season, but were turned off. They had music videos playing during the '08 Halloween Haunt at Delerium and several other ride ques that now have no TVs.
  15. Pretty sure that's me.. unless that guy just looks exactly like me from behind and happened to also be wearing a black t-shirt.
  16. TVs were gone at Delerium too. I think they were still there at FoF, but not turned on. Actually I think FoF is the only place i saw TVs. Of course DB trains aren't recycled from the action theatre floor. Action Theatre didn't even close as many of us heard it would. It was open on opening day. Still playing SpongeBob 3D And finally, short or not, doesn't make a big difference on DB. I'm 6'4" and I could just barely touch the toe of my shoes to the floor. Didn't help in supporting myself any. I freaked out on the first hill, but had no way to hold on in a manner that I wouldn't feel like i was going to fly out of my seat - Which I rather liked about the ride haha. So unless you're 7 feet tall you're not going to be able to use your feet for leverage.
  17. While in line for Diamondback on opening day: man 1: The first drop is over 200ft and the max speed is 80mph man 2: Well The Beast is almost 200 feet and goes 75mph. Roller coaster technology hasn't come very far. man 1: that's because the body can only handle so much force. man 2: yeah, you can't make them much bigger if the body can only handle 1 or 2 G's. HAHAHA While in line for Scooby Doo a mother told her VERY young crying child, probably about 4 years old, "don't be scared. it's not dark in there at all." that was just cruel, but still darndest. i'll keep my ears open more at the next visit, i love this thread!
  18. Forget seatbelts let's get a 5 point harness, helmets, knee pads, mouthpieces, and parachutes for every DB rider... B&M makes incredible coasters and they have a great safety record. If they say seatbelts aren't required then I don't need one. I got a lot of air time on DB and I don't want a redundant restraint to take that away.
  19. oh then my idea won't work. If she just doesn't like loops then that's not so bad. the only looping rides at the park are Invertigo, Flight of Fear, Firehawk, Vortex, and of course the crypt and slingshot flip around MANY times. In my opinion the easiest ride out of all of those is Vortex, so maybe try that one first to make her a loop lover!
  20. You could try building up to large rides. Start out with some tame rides and work your way up in thrill level. As each ride gets more thrilling she might look forward to the next big thrill. Then you'll find out if she really doesn't like thrill rides, or hopefully she just doesn't like Flight of Fear.
  21. Didn't get a picture on the ride, but I snapped a shot of my single rider ticket before they took it back. It was pretty sweet in the afternoon to only wait about 30 minutes! Even though i had to ride alone to skip the line!
  22. I just watched a couple youtube videos of maxair and it looks like it only swings out 90 degrees, but Delerium definitely swings further than that. I've never ridden Maxair, but from the videos I watched it looked tame compared to Delerium. Maybe the ride program changed since those videos were shot.

  24. ahhh and it all makes sense. No surprise it didn't sell. I don't care how nice the paint job is, I wouldn't buy a used car that was next to impossible to buy replacement parts for.
  25. wow. I stand corrected. That's really interesting though. I wonder if they hadn't forseen the closing yet at the time they repainted it? Or maybe the paint job was so old they thought the ride wouldn't make it to the end of the season without rust problems? Must have been a good reason for it.
