I'm staking my guess on cryptic clues, and the newer tendency for the parks to want to match up. Dinos Alive! started at KI, and then went to other parks. I don't mind the parks being more homogenous, it tells park goers that though each of the parks has a uniqueness, like The Beast, their favorites from their home park will also be available. I doubt KI will ever get rides that are the key features of other parks, and I doubt any other CF park will get the equivalent of The Beast. Matt Ouimet also stresses 'family entertainment', which might mean more varied shows, and places in the park that will target a different market. My parents haven't been to the park in forever, nor has my older sister and brother. There's a niche not being filled. There's four customers not beating a path the gate, and it's not for lack of funds.

Foo! People pay that much for a concert ticket for two hours entertainment. Better to pay that amount for two passes than on a prescription for anti-depressants, or anything else to clear away the blues. After so many visits, it's a free ride.

Does anyone remember the Fascination barker at Lesourdesville? I can still hear in my head- "Fass-in-AY-shun!" I like BloodDrums where it is, it's just the angle that it's presented. That area of Haunt is pretty butch, so having that act by Slaughterhouse is good. I do recall seeing Baryshnikov rehearsing at Timberwolf while I was in line for the Demon. There wasn't a way I could afford tickets at the time, but I always wanted to see him live. I hated the Demon but rode it twice to watch the rehearsals from the stairs. I wish they'd return to the old style landscaping that was around the fountains, but I do love to sit with a coffee by the fountains after a tiring day, and I can't have it both ways. They've kept the buildings, and at this point, this is all I can ask for.

I'd like more tweener rides, too. There's more to a park than the choice between Snoopy and Superthrill. (Forgot to Multiquote)

I'd like to think I won my bet.

I feel the addition of LED's, high tech stage, high tech lighting, renovated fountains to alter how the appear, etc all would completely ruin [what's left of] the European feel of International Street. The beautiful fountains and architecture do not need anything except spruce ups, not an entire facelift on the Street. If what you're going for is to alter how I Street looks entirely, good idea. But in my opinion, you would be destroying one of the most iconic things of Kings Island. The path between the Bandstand and the Eiffel Tower is awfully small to put a large-scale show. It would create awful bottlenecking, making navigation through the area difficult beyond belief. I think I would miss Ye Olde Worlde Charme, myself. I like the clear view as I walk up International Street to the Eiffel Tower. I like the feel of the air when I just get into the park, the misting and the smell of the fountains. I honestly haven't been to Timberwolf since the eighties. Is it still set up the same way? (Blood Drums caused some bottlenecking where it is. I like the group, but its placement causes a crowd to gather, and people have a hard time getting through. Is it possible to set the stage at a ninety degree angle to keep the aisles clear?)

A path full of entertainment is only half as long as a barren parking lot of equal length, to the mind's eye. With things to see and places to stop, and rides, I promise you, you would think the path quite short. (And a Wild Mouse would be so cool.)
-
Do you realize how long this path would be?? Exactly! You'd be able to get to X-base in the same amount of time by going around through Coney Mall. Why anyone would think this is a good idea is beyond me. In my eyes it's not a "path", but a new area. New rides, shops, restrooms, etc. Yes, put little tags of "Ride", "Shop" "Restroom" along that little path, it wouldn't seem so long and meandering. One large ride, a showplace, and a few small rides and shops would shorten that path considerably.

Is the whole stretch of park around Luminosity LED lit with that bling cement? I've seen pictures of their Ferris Wheel with intricate lighting.

KI Closing Day Videos and such (And the 1,000th post)
Tanna replied to ohiocolts's topic in Trip Reports
Wow. I'd seen it on Google maps, but the scale of The Beast really shows in these videos. Nice surprise! -
Gatorhead, the lines for the rides were amazing. The thinking of a pass holder is different, too. In my case, I only go a few hours at a time. If the line is too long, then it's "next time." I recall the long lines from the past, too. We have become spoiled by being pass holders. On the other hand, I don't have much opportunity to ride the smaller, shorter lined rides like The Monster until I bring a guest in. Strange how a person going only once or twice a year has patience for the long lines.

The station of Son of Beast is meant to reflect Outpost 5, the same outpost that Adventure Express is meant to "depart" to. See below: This is the side of the SoB station. Now listen to track number 3 below: http://kiextreme.com/kitunes.php Thanks. Now I understand the theming. The only time I see the station is during Haunt, and on the way to Flight Deck. I've always seen it with the full moon scenery, so I thought that was part of the original station.

When I had the dream, I didn't know bumper boats existed, but yet, I had a dream of bumper boats. In the dream, people weren't wearing swim suits, but their park going clothes, and it was a catered private party- on bumper boats at KI, so people had no qualms about trying to knock each other into the water.

Even the benches in the designated smoking area by Skyflyer? At Kings Island, everywhere is a smoking area. But they all aren't designated. Yes. I noticed this during Haunt. Sorry, even if it's a cigar, which dictates not smashing it into a tray to put it out, but to let the fire go out naturally, you stay in the Smokee Smokee area until the cigar is not longer Smokee Smokee. At the bumper cars, I pulled out my cigarettes, offered one to my cousin, and then said, "Oh, I forgot, we'll get kicked out for smoking in line." The fume factory was right in front of me. "Oh rilly?" "Rilly."

I didn't know there was supposed to be a storyline to Tombstone. I just thought they were like Jamestown, only not so much lost as very ill. I do know one of the villagers owns an 85th anniversary Raggedy Ann doll. In all of my magazines if tintypes of the Old West, (yes, they do exist), I've never seen a photo of where the whole town lines up all their crates in a zigzag pattern down the center of the main drag. When they have mazes set up of the same boxes all down the line, and a wide gap where I can easily skirt the villain, it does take some of the spook out of it. I'm not saying the actors in Cornstalkers and Tombstone lack imagination, I'm saying they are doing their best with what they have. Whoever it was hiding under a shelf in the wax museum got my group, the unexpected is great, but it does take imagination, and scenery. It's best if if the monsters aren't all in symmetrical order in line with the boxes they are hiding behind. I like it when they all have different personalities and means of scaring. The Slaughterhouse pigboys are a great example. They were like, in a fantasy Venture Bros. world of their own, wearing pig heads the same way anyone else would wear Mickey Mouse ears. I feel sorry for box maze scaractors, they aren't given the choice of different scenery to hide behind.

The station for The Bat was aesthetically pleasing, it had a Victorian sensibility to it. I like that they kept it. SOB station was supposed to reflect the mineshaft feel of The Beast to a certain extent? I don't know, I'd only been in it at night.

Going through people's reviews of different Haunts, it's obvious that there are a few 'must sees' and more than a few 'mehs'. What makes a Haunt worthwhile for you? What makes a Haunt snooze worthy? What would you include in a Haunt if you were given reign? One of the big things for me is the actors. I like big energy, even when they are sitting down. I like a coherent theme. How about you?

I like the Fearfest wristband idea. Charge for the wristband and be done with it. Parents might think a bit before they put up the charge for smaller children to be in the park. I'm not talking children the age that Pcc has, and she was with them to monitor. I saw a kid that about four years old, being tended by siblings that were about 7 and 8. Their parents sat on a bench in Coney Island, while the kids had to negotiate the crowds. I don't know if it was a situation of discount tickets, or what, but it seemed as if they were clueless about the whole theme park thing. The kids kept waiting in line for rides, only to have the attendant turn them away for height reasons. I hope their passes were free, because they sure wasted an entire night, and took up the worker's time and patience. Having an up charge, a separate charge for a wristband, would be worth the extra cost to make the experience more enjoyable. It was really crowded when I went. Ha- I had a meanderer in my group: he wasn't being nonchalant on purpose, he just wanted to take it all in, but it's those people that need a mini-ghoul to help shove them through the mazes. He walked faster through Slaughterhouse after a few well calculate scares. His wife broke ranks and ran out of the waiting line from the sounds alone.
-
And if they were killed, there would have been an investigation, a black mark on the park, more regulation and more restraints added to the ride. I imagine that they simply braced their legs and rose up out of their seat s much as possible. Thanks for trying to report them. I'm hoping the photo kiosk reported them, as they have proof. Don't they have cameras along the roe circuit? I'm gold you got a lot in that day, gold you had fun, otherwise.

Thank you. We thought there was more to it, but hidden by the dark and the fog. I guess not. I keep thinking about that kid that was in line of AE and his expression when he heard about SOB's history.
-
We looked at it's ghostly form looming through the fog last night, and all went "Huh." We then turned out attention to what can possibly be taking its place. With it all in pieces like that, you can see that there's a really attractive chunk of area with access from both X-base and Action Zone. There were quite a few people playing Theme Park with that area on the Tower. Everyone wants something different to go there. The corpse of Sob is a good excuse to use the Tower. Kings Island really is such a cute little park. Could someone who went to the final day post demo pics please? It was dark and foggy when I sawit.

That's another thing. I thought being scared of pigs was just personal issue with me. My sister once raised pigs, and the scare of my life was being chased by a 600 lb. psychotic sow. Plus, they have human eyes. To me, eating bacon is ridding the world of a little bit of evil. The pig noises were unnerving, better than having real pigs. The guy making the sound was very realistic. Slaughter house uses the rationale of bomber art on planes in WWII- the further way they got from Mama, the more edgy it got, until it got into Apocalypse Now territory. I could see in some houses where there were supposed to be people in a nook, and there was no one. The clown house makes up for it sparse workers by design, and you are right, you can't see some of the people in the wax museum, and it's creepy. Easter Bunny was there when I went through, and seemed to have a personal vendetta against us- really creepy. This is the first time I've seen patrons tap ghouls on the shoulder and engage them with tea time conversations. What gives with that? The actor has to be polite, he's hired by the park, but what makes these patrons want to make small talk with a person whose face is falling off? I also saw a lot of little kids. A few times on rides, we'd see a kid that, no matter how much tp in his shoes, was not going to get on a ride. Don't bother to tell the parent that they're wasting their time in line, they just set their brows and jaws. Let them stand in line for a half hour 'til the person with the stick tells them. I couldn't make it to the park on last day. My cousin and I make use of our feet, and take over the park quickly. The men we married poop out too fast- mine's too pooped to return today.

Good. I like what he brought to the park. It was like he could understand Themeparkophilia.

But aren't footers for The Bat still present in the vicinity of The Vortex? That has me curious, too. All of SOB's footers. I can still see remnants of rides long gone, but all remnants of SOB will be gone. You can build a coaster with another ride's footers laying around, but what does it mean to have all footers to be removed? What needs a flat clean area? A walkway? A building? editted to ask Cedar Point goers, "What does Celebration Plaza look like? What does it entail? (thinking Luminosity.)

I had also mentioned a separate charge for the Haunt on another posts. My reasoning behind this is that with the Haunt being free with the gold pass, it encourages the 'no where else to go' behavior, and that attitude can encourage the poor behaviors we've been discussing. With an added charge, people will think before just dropping in because they are bored. To include the Haunt on the pass makes it a free event in many people's minds. Things only have the value that we put on it. Many of us go to KI and not Land of Illusions because KI is free. An extra fee would cut back on the crowding, and perhaps bring more families with teens, instead of having the teens with no supervision. I'd rather pay a little extra and have the crowd size be manageable, than to have to attend a free for all. I'd also like an age limit for the Haunt, but not for the same reasons. There were times in a Haunts where one had to apply the "Don't Scare" rule because a younger person became overwhelmed. I don't recall going to Haunts until I was sixteen, and that was only because my 18 year old sister was frightened to go by herself. I can't imagine being a parent and dropping a kid off at the park if they were under 16 years of age.
