  1. The country version of "I Want You To Want Me" (the live Cheap Trick version is the most famous) was great, but I'm afraid it'll get old.
  2. I think that honestly, Geauga Lake has been a little disappointing since Cedar Fair has taken over. The attendance hasn't been good enough to totally justify the no reride rule, the park still has its layout issues. If they'd fix some of the issues, people just might come back. I don't totally like the add-on policy for GL and CP passes, because including each other would help out GL's attendance. But I do stand firmly that Geauga Lake is a great park that I look forward to visiting whenever I can. A great mixture of coasters, from Ohio's oldest standing wood coaster, to a great B&M floorless., as well as a beautiful new waterpark. I don't want this thread to turn into GL vs. PKI. We know where we've gotten with CP vs. PKI threads. On the same boat, I'm fortunate too to have a park like Kings Island (that's what I'm going to refer to it as from here out) close to home, but I'd argue it's had better days as well.
  3. I may go against the consensus here, but I really enjoyed my visits to Geauga Lake since Cedar Fair took over. Was it ever perfect? No. Contrary to what some may believe here, NEITHER is PKI! I don't agree with the no-reride rule, as well as no picture-taking in lines and stations. The latter I don't really understand any harm that it may cause. This happened to me at both Cedar Point and Geauga Lake, but I moved on. However, I strongly disagree with the park being no fun! There are some coasters and rides there I wish KI would have. Face it, the PKI we know and love is going to change after this season, and some of the changes won't be favorable. But will they keep us from going? I seriously doubt that. If you took a trip there in 2001 or 2002, when I encountered one-train operations on a busy day, rude employees, dirty bathrooms, and some closed rides, I could understand your sentiment. If you want somebody to blame for the park's sad state, blame Six Flags.
  4. The shirts in the Emporium: Taken Friday 8/11. No Photoshop was used.
  5. http://www.cpr.ca/. It's been on there since 2005, when all... most of us had no idea of Cedar Point one day being related to Paramount's Kings Island... And the Repar/Raptor thing is just hilarious. My friends love to interchange the two. "Hey, Tom, let's go on Rugrats Runaway Raptor!"
  6. Bankrupt, but not necessarily out of business. Several airlines went bankrupt in recent years, but they continue to fly.
  7. Here's how it was done.
  8. What they mean is the name "Kings Island" is here to stay. Knowing Cedar Fair, they're better known for maintaining traditional names, and in the case of their Aurora, OH park, bringing back such names. When I went into the Emporium on International Street last night, I noticed some of the shirts (featuring the 70's style star design) missing the "Paramount's" name, and I asked the associate why. She said that the Paramount is going to be dropped. So, this must mean that they're no longer ordering merchandise with the Paramount name, even if the styles remain the same. So, Chef, you could say, that a new foundation is being poured...
  9. At least Atlanta has some sort of subway. "Oprah is our friend." - David Letterman
  10. Greg Scheid is now Vice President and General Manager of Kings Island. Not sure about Craig Ross or Tim Fisher, though.
  11. Quote from CoasterBuzz: "During the ACE Preservation confrence, a park representitive who's name eludes me right now was asked about the plans for (Cedar Fair) season passes next year and how it would all work with the Paramount aquisition. To my suprise, he said that we may know as early as next week as to what's going on for next year. By the way, the PR was from Valleyfair and ACE was there Friday August 4th. I can only guess at the details, but it seems we'll soon know when as to what they are...
  12. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/pkiguy1/deta...re2.jpg&.src=ph I took this July 8 2006 and it was running. Yes it is for sale and if some one was to buy it , it would be removed after the season. Refer to my signature as to what happened on my Demon Drop ride on 6/2. And I strongly recommend several rides on Gemini! It's addictive!
  13. Some people said that the big concert that was to be at Kentucky Speedway (Big & Rich, Alan Jackson, etc.) - was canceled due to low ticket sales. I haven't heard the confirmed reason... BTW, I saw Josh Gracin, former American Idol star from season 2, now a country singer, perform in concert at the Champaign County Fair in Urbana, OH tonight.
  14. I remember until the early to mid-1990s that you could acutally rent towels at Water Works. I've been in this situation sometimes when I wish I could have that option.
  15. Just shake yourself off in the changing room.
  16. I've heard that Cedar Fair REALLY wants to re-open Son of Beast. Will they be able to do so this year; that I doubt.
  17. I remember hearing the Josh Gracin version of "Workin' for the Weekend" from the Herbie: Fully Loaded soundtrack.
  18. One reason why Cedar Point is offering the VIP package tours is due to the many celebrities and other true VIPs that have visited the park. I know of actors like Drew Carey, athletes/sports stars like LeBron James, as well as members of the Cleveland Indians, for example that have gotten this treatment - simply because they want to visit the park, do a few rides, and not have to deal with the public asking for photos, autographs. Honestly, to be more fair, they've decided to offer this service to anyone that has the money, but not the fame that let people do it before. Most guests simply aren't going to throw away $350 per person to cut the lines. Somewhat off topic, I was at Kings Island when Nick Lachey and Justin Jeffre, former members of 98° last year. I saw them twice: getting on Son of Beast, and walking past the Happy Days Diner. Obviously, they had escorts by security, and management, including Maureen Kaiser (also a celebrity in our minds!)
  19. I got the e-mail from DAFE a few hours ago. Apparently, the owner hasn't notified the employees yet (that day may be today).
  20. *Bump* The current edition of the PKI fun guide runs through tomorrow, July 31, meaning a new one on Tuesday. Traditionally, season pass sales for next year have begin in early August, but who knows with Cedar Fair now running things.
  21. I can't open the link. Anything special about the Knott's fun guide?
  22. Absolutely. One of my biggest pet peeves with these forums is people spreading downright insane if not impossible rumors... all while failing to use proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling! For those of us expecting Cedar Fair to Cedar Point-ize Kings Island: dream on. Sure, new attractions, buildings, signs, etc. may have the look, feel, design, and probably even names that existing Cedar Fair parks have. They may even rename some existing things that may seem "too Paramount" or would fit better (like Xtreme Skyflyer being renamed RipCord). You'll still walk down International Street with the Royal Fountain to your side, looking up at a blue Eiffel Tower, going down Coney Mall alongside a twin woodie called "The Racer," and go to Rivertown and ride a super-long wood creation called "The Beast." Cedar Fair will surely change the park, spruce up landscaping, pathways, and other aesthetics, but they will further maintain the identity of "Kings Island," whether or not the Paramount name and themes have been deleted. While I wouldn't expect extreme record-breakers and maybe even prototype-gimmick coasters, I would expect a large, high capacity steel coaster, probably from B&M - something to still bring the older trill-seekers, while they still add to the kids and family attractions.
  23. http://www.ohio.com/mld/beaconjournal/news...te/15147476.htm Now if it would ban smoking at amusement parks like KI, I'll definitely vote for it!
  24. Some of the little helpful things the big regional parks seem to have forgotten and/or discarded are the gentle transport rides. These include trains, monorails, inclines, sky rides, and observaton towers. Yes, I know how the big coasters and the whimsical flashy kids areas bring most guests in, but these seemingly simple transport rides are things the entire family can do together - again, something Walt Disney emphasized. I know SFMM can't exactly be Disneyland, but their effort to be the ultimate thrill park with the most coasters has obviously bit them in the butt. I'm glad they have their tower back up and running, now if they can get the Metro monorail running again...
  25. Actual photo: http://allenarena.com/gallery/displayimage...tup&cat=0&pos=2 Of course, what I think it SHOULD look like next year: *The above photo was edited with Adobe Photoshop*
