  1. Pardon my French, but they really need to poop or get off the pot. Kentucky Kingdom is dead and I don't see it rising from the grave anytime soon or ever. Sell off the rides, bring in a little revenue for the state and throw the last shovel full of dirt on this zombie of an amusement park and be done with it.

    Classic KI Pics

I'm glad you like the photo. I wish both signs were clearly in the shot. I guess mom was more concerned about getting the Banana Split guy in the shot. lol Your right, it doesn't really look like Hokey Wolf on that sign, Maybe someone else can come along and clear that up for us. And who in the heck is Blabber Mouse? Thats another H-B character I have never heard of.
  3. Great pic! Can't wait to get back up there this summer.

    Classic KI Pics

Todays pic is from 1975. We see a couple of KI employees taking a break with one of the characters, who I believe is from the tv show The Banana Splits. In the background you can see a couple of the trams the park used.
  5. Thanks for sharing the brochure! I didn't realize that White Water Canyon has been around that long. It is one of my familys favorite rides, something we can all ride together at the same time.

    Classic KI Pics

Thanks for the replies guys. Never heard of Mighty Mitor or Tom and Tub. Love H-B cartoons, don't know how I missed out on them. Todays pic is from the dolphin show in 1980. No dolphins in this pic, but it gives you a good view of some of the area around the water tanks.

    Classic KI Pics

Todays pic is from the Enchanted Voyage. This photo is from 1980. I have always wondered who the two dudes in the boat are. Anyone have any idea?
  8. I know there is another topic right now featuring retro Kings Island pics and I'm not trying to steal TOPGUN1993's thunder, but I have finally got around to scanning my own classic KI photos. Some of these were taken I believe in 1975, when my mother went there with a group of her friends. The others were taken in July of 1980 when my parents took me there shortly after my fourth birthday. There are lots of Enchanted Voyage pics and pics of the dolphin show, with a few other attractions mixed in. I'll try to post one a day and welcome all comments and insights into these photos. They mean a great deal to me and hope you all enjoy them. Our first pic is of the double Ferris wheel, the Zodiac. This is a pic from 1975 I do believe.
  9. Never visited the park during the Paramount years, but, while the park may have lost some of the charm it had when I was a wee one, my family and I have had a great time there the past two years and are looking forward to our trip this coming June.
  10. Love this pic. Brings back some great memories, as this was the first coaster I ever rode, back when it was Scooby. I was like 5 at the time and made my dad cover my eyes for most of the ride. LOL
  11. You might be a KI addict if you dream about riding Viking Fury, which I did a couple of nights ago.
  12. The less filling, tastes great dueling chants also broke out when we were there over Father's Day weekend this year.
  13. 1974 was more beautiful, but 2011 has Viking Fury. This is a tough one, but Viking Fury trumps all, so I'll pick 2011.
  14. 1974 wins today. Der Spinnen Keggers were a fun ride. Plus I like the look of the theater, it looks like a giant bed pillow. :0)
  15. I would have to go with 2011 with today's photos. Nice landscaping, though there is a certain nostalgia regarding the trams.
  16. This is a tough one. I kind of agree with you, the slide is a attraction you just don't see much of anymore. I'm sure it was alot of fun. But I think I will have to go with the Zephyr, which is a pretty neat ride itself. This one was very close and was a tough choice.
  17. '74 without a doubt. The Skyride looked awesome and fit in great near the tower.
  18. As much as I loved Enchanted Voyage as a kid, the better paint job on the coaster and Surf Dog means I have to give the nod to 2011.
  19. 2011, without a doubt. Not only is Surf Dog my wifes favorite ride, it is also one of mine. We've had alot of fun riding Surf Dog with our son. (My older daughter won't ride it as she doesn't like much anything more intense than Boo Blasters! )
  20. I voted for Viking Fury, but would have went with Surf Dog if it had been on the list. Or is it not considered a flat?
  21. '74 easily wins this one. The landscaping at the park in the early years was just downright beautiful.
  22. I prefer the more "primitive" look of the log flume in the first pic, but I still love this great old ride just as much today. A true classic and one of the first "big" rides I ever rode at KI when I was a little kid.
  23. Great topic! Its great fun to see the park of old compared to todays KI and what is still there and what no longer exists. Please keep up the good work!

    Glasses - on or off?

I ordered a Cincinnati Reds eyeglasses strap off ebay for just a couple of bucks. Works fine, keeps them on nice and tight, have never had a problem on any ride.
  25. I said way back on this thread that I do not want my tax dollars to go to this failed park. Tax breaks, sure. But during these tough economic times, we do not need to spend state money trying to reopen a park that is poorly located and has a poor chance of succeding. Sell off the parks assets and let this rotting corpse finally be laid to rest.
