Does anyone else find it funny or coincidental that Kings Island gets major coaster installs 20yrs after Cedar Point? Magnum 1989(hyper) Diamondback 2009(hyper), Raptor 1994 (full circuit invert) Banshee 2014 (full circuit invert), Millennium Force 2000 (Giga) and our Potential Giga 2020

    You cracked the code.

So, 2038, we'll finally get an RMC?

I think it's funny that there is a thread about re-theming Adventure Express, when Backlot Stunt Coaster easily wins the award for worst theming (and overall ugliness).

That's because Express has some potential. BLSC can't really be fixed, honestly. It's a concrete jungle. And it's literally themed to a concrete jungle. The very basis of it disallows it from any good theming.

I'm not sure if you're saying these teasers are terrible, or if you're saying everyone who complained was wrong but if it's the latter I'm not sure if I'd agree yet.

The latter. I say this because the teasers are working. All of you are flipping out trying to decipher what they mean, and it's only been a day.

That means they're doing a good job.

That’s interesting because it has always seemed to me that VF’s ride ops were more outgoing and fun...like they are enjoying their day. It’s too bad it’s not a fun ride to work at.

It really depends. I think VF ride ops are outgoing and fun because we are bored. It makes it a lot more entertaining. I know a lot of people here have their opinions about annoying spieling, but I found that talking to all the guests over the mic was enjoyable for everyone. The best part was singing Happy Birthday to someone on the ride.

Also, no I do not work there anymore, all of this is from my experiences in the 3 years I was at KI from 2015-2017.

It can take an entire 24 hours for the tires to dry up. In my time working at Viking Fury, we sometimes had to close down after cleaning up vomit because the hose we used made the tires too wet. Overall, the ride is just very fragile when it comes to rain. More often than not, it will close down when it rains.

I want to clarify this statement: it will not close down when it rains, but it will close down if it rains enough after an extended period of time.

Another fun fact: we called it in 2-9 "Weather" anytime the rain was too much, but that would happen after the rain ended. Sometimes the sun would be bright and shining when we called it in. Employees in the ops room were confused time and time again as to how we were closed due to weather when there wasn't any bad weather to be found...it was also very annoying to have a greeter at the entrance dealing with guests who argued with us about how "the sun is out, how can it be closed?!"

Thanks for the info! Is that why it is closed so much during Halloween Haunt...usually a more wet/ rainy time period?

Probably, but there used to be a time where the ride would close down because there was too much fog, and it was too hard for the driver to see the ship to ensure all riders were safe!

  7. There was a whole week a few years ago where we didn't operate the ride once other than performing tests. It was a wet few days, and even just a storm can make it go 2-9. I doubt anything is wrong with it other than this.

  8. Viking Fury responds very poorly to rain. If it rains enough, the ship will hydroplane on the tires that drive the ride's swing. Not only will the ship not be able to make its full swing while this happens, it can even mess up the tires, which is an even worse off mechanical issue.

  9. Honest question here: how well does Holiday World do? Obviously they do well enough, but that's surprising to me.

With Kentucky Kingdom resurfacing and Kings Island only a few hours away, it seems odd that people are willing to go to the middle of Nowhere, Indiana for the park. And every time I've gone to Holiday World, attendance seems to be pretty low. On top of all this, you pay what, $45 to enter? This gives you access to the dry and water park, as well as free parking and soft drinks.

If anyone has an explanation, or can tell me I'm misguided, please let me know.

    I want their financials...

Guys remember this a budget giga. The teasers have been left out to help cut cost.

I know you are being facetious, but maybe, just maybe...the fact that we are seeing no teasers means the coaster itself is actually quite expensive!

I really hope Kong’s island and Kroger does a commercial for Polaris like this, the animation looks absolutely amazing.

I made this a long time ago, and now is the perfect time to finally use it for good.

This is from when I was about 14 and just learning graphic design, so bear with my poor concept of scale.

Yeah I still to the rides in the USA.  I wanted to hit up Europe for the coaster over there. sigh

You are fine riding coasters in most Western European countries, I'd say.

I wouldn't trust most undeveloped or developing countries. Stick with Canada / USA / UK / Spain / Australia / maybe China (it seems they have a very wide variety of theme parks, from totally safe and maintained to sketchy and dangerous).

Sorry to make this boring, but "Banshee" seems to be capitalized in your old post due to a bug in the forum software.

A filter was enabled in 2014 that automatically corrects capitalization of ride names. A forum upgrade in 2015 seemingly applied the filter to existing posts, which shouldn't have happened. I looked at a pre-2015 backup of the forum database, and "Banshee" was not capitalized in your post.

Aw, man! Okay, but that's still a little funny that I consciously decided to use the word Banshee. I must've heard someone say that the day I posted.

I haven't seen this myself, but possibly somebody could co mad like a Banshee and assault a ride operator because his daughter is too small to ride Diamondback.......

Guys, I am very confused. This is my old account that I used when I was younger -- much younger.

Can someone please let me know what I'm saying here -- and how, in 2009, I use the term "Banshee" -- capitalized, too.

Why was I using the term "Banshee" at 11 years old? Was I psychic? I am very weirded out...

Edit: I notice now that a few of you have already responded to this. I had no idea. I am the all-seeing eye.

  15. Guys, I think this is a teaser. They know what we're thinking? Obviously referring to us here on KIC. How could cotton candy get any better? Substitute "the vast and diverse Kings Island roller coaster collection" with "cotton candy" and the question is very clear. Unique flavors, meaning the "unique" elements on the new giga. Speaks to you? We're getting an animatronic as well. It's not even going to be just a coaster. We're getting a dark ride.

I can't believe KI would think they could pull a fast one on us. We are too smart.

    End the teasing already, guys.

  16. This might relate more to year-round parks such as Universal and Disney, but I believe that teasing a big attraction too early can sometimes hurt the park. Especially with Grand Carnivale happening, and still more of the summer to go, KI wouldn't want to deter guests from visiting now and instead coming next summer. It needs to be timed right to ensure enough people are still pumped about KI this summer, but are also excited about next.
